Chapter 807: Chapter 736: One Fruit, One Fierce Beast

Stores were lined with various goods, and people chatted and laughed as they strolled by.

A pair of youthful young women were window-shopping, holding up their phones to take photos of each other. "Xiaoya, I’ve already been shopping with you for two hours. My boyfriend is urging me to go over and keep him company. I have to leave," one of the girls said.

"Hmph, you prioritize romance over friendship. You’re leaving after only keeping me company for two hours. You two have been dating for two years already; a little time apart won’t kill you."

The girl pouted, looking dissatisfied. "Don’t think I don’t know what you guys are going to do."

Her friend’s face flushed red. "Two hours isn’t enough? My boyfriend has already sent a dozen urgent messages. I told you to find a boyfriend too, but your standards are just too high."

"Being single is great. No one controls me. I can eat and drink whatever I want. If I see a handsome guy, I can ask for his WeChat and flirt with him. Can you do that?"

"Alright, alright, I can’t out-argue you."

The young woman rolled her eyes. "Since being single is so great, I’m taking off. You go enjoy your single life, and I’ll go enjoy a two-person world with my boyfriend."

Xiaoya was speechless. "Fine, go, just go."

"Then I won’t hold back. Bye!"

They were students and roommates at a university in City B. Usually, students were in their best study state during their freshman year, still maintaining the momentum from high school. But by their sophomore and junior years, they basically became seasoned slackers, and skipping classes became the norm. Today was not the weekend, but they still did whatever they pleased.

The girl heading to see her boyfriend slung her small purse over her shoulder, gave her roommate a playful peck on the cheek, and turned to leave. However, she had only taken a few steps when a sudden gust of cold wind blew past, making her shiver all over.

So cold. A simple gust of wind had somehow caused all the pores on her body to stand on end.

"Has the weather turned chilly? I’m not catching a cold, am I?" the girl muttered to herself, feeling a sudden urge to yawn. Her boyfriend had already booked a room and was waiting for her. She figured she would take a hot shower once she got there.

She took a few more steps and paused.

It was so itchy. She scratched at her neck, but that didn’t seem to be the source of the itch. Her face felt itchy. She scratched it, but that didn’t feel right either. Still, her face was beginning to feel a bit uncomfortable.

The young woman pulled a small makeup mirror from her purse and checked her reflection, only to be astonished to find a tiny black spot on her left cheek. She immediately furrowed her brows in shock. Although the black spot wasn’t large, it was obvious enough to completely ruin her looks. But it wasn’t just a matter of appearance. There was an unsettling discomfort both mentally and physically, along with an incessant, lingering itch on her face.

She wondered if she had somehow been contaminated by something unclean.

"Chen Lu, what’s wrong? Weren’t you in a rush to find your boyfriend? Why are you just standing there?" Her roommate Xiaoya walked up from behind.

"A black spot just grew on my face. What’s going on? How can I see my boyfriend looking like this?" Chen Lu turned to look at her roommate and was immediately taken aback. "Why do you have a black spot on your face too?"

Both beautiful young women widened their eyes as if they had seen a ghost. They began wiping at each other’s faces, attempting to rub off the black spots that didn’t belong there. But once they started wiping, things quickly spiraled out of control.

Not only did the suddenly appearing black spots refuse to come off, but they also began to spread. Chen Lu stared in horror at her roommate’s face, while her roommate stared back with equally wide, terrified eyes. They wiped at each other, going completely insane, rubbing as if using every ounce of their strength. Their gazes began to turn strange.

Rubbing and wiping, the spots only grew larger the more they scratched. The more they rubbed, the more black spots appeared, and their faces became incredibly, unbearably itchy. Eventually, more than half of their faces turned pitch black.

The two young women let out piercing screams, their delicate bodies trembling. No longer caring about each other’s faces, they began to claw frantically at their own. Their skin was scratched open, and blood began to stream down. Yet, instead of panicking, the two girls began to laugh with morbid excitement, descending into pure madness. Blood flowed down their mangled, unrecognizable faces, but they kept laughing, their cackles growing increasingly bizarre.

Looking down the pedestrian street, everyone else was doing the exact same thing as the two girls. Their faces began to feel that faint, lingering itch. They sprouted black spots. They started wiping, scratching, bleeding, and laughing. In the end, they scratched their entire bodies, tearing off their clothes without any regard for decency, men and women alike. Blood splashed as people peeled off their own skin, causing it to gush out like fountains. People collapsed into their own pools of blood, falling one after another like a crumbling mountain. The pedestrian street practically turned into a river of blood, the air thick with the metallic stench of gore.

Right then, a terrifying dark shadow bizarrely emerged from the ground, slithering through the blood. The blood slowly began to vanish, as if it were being siphoned away and drank dry by some unseen entity.

Similar incidents occurred one after another throughout City B—in an office building, a school, and a publicly listed company. It wasn’t just ordinary people; even Martial Cultivators could not escape this fate.

City B had plunged into a living nightmare.

Meanwhile.

"City B: Hell on Earth. A Demon Has Descended."

Tu Xiao’an sat in the dining area, reading this forum post with a solemn expression. He felt like he was reading a supernatural horror novel. The third Ginseng Fruit had dropped from City B’s World Tree, but it was an empty drop; no Exotic Beast had appeared. However, bizarre events had begun to unfold incessantly across the city. It was like a Fierce Ghost from Hell had crawled up to claim lives. It couldn’t be seen, but people kept dying in gruesome ways.

"Xiaoyang!"

Tu Xiao’an shouted as if speaking to the empty air. Suddenly, a bewitching man materialized out of nowhere beside him, his body slightly translucent. It seemed only Tu Xiao’an could see him.

"Master, what are your orders?"

Ever since the Artifact Spirit Xiaoyang had chosen to accept his fate, coupled with the system’s soul brand, he had gradually become Tu Xiao’an’s most loyal servant over time.

"Take a look at this World Tree. Is it a War Relic?" Tu Xiao’an asked. The so-called War Relics were becoming increasingly complex. It seemed they could come in different packages. They didn’t just appear openly and show their true forms right away. Every single relic possessed distinct characteristics.

"This tree?" Xiaoyang glanced at the image on Tu Xiao’an’s phone and instantly froze like a wooden chicken, as if he had recognized something.

"Don’t zone out, spit it out," Tu Xiao’an urged.

The Artifact Spirit Xiaoyang nodded, then shook his head. "It probably is, Master."

"What do you mean ’it probably is’?"

"Master, the so-called War Relics are all independent spatial entities. They might be the cave dwelling of some Ancient Times God, a perilous danger zone, or even a living creature. They originate from different eras.

"This giant tree looks extraordinary, so it’s normal for it to be the existence of a certain relic. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have appeared in the world at this time."

Tu Xiao’an rolled his eyes. That was practically saying nothing at all. He had thought Xiaoyang might know some insider information, considering he was the Artifact Spirit of a relic himself. Weren’t they all in the same boat? It turned out the definition of a relic was extremely complicated, and they were even products from completely different eras.

City B was a place of outstanding people and excellent geography, with a massive urban area. Sure enough, the "treatment" it received was not small either. Tu Xiao’an pondered whether the World Tree itself was a relic, or if a relic was hidden within the World Tree—one fruit, one Fierce Beast. The cracking open of the third fruit was probably not an empty drop after all. Rather, an even more terrifying Exotic Beast had entered the world.

He wondered if he should make a trip to City B, but Tu Xiao’an wanted to resolve Wencheng’s War Relic first. Wencheng’s relic was so simple; it was clear at a glance. It merely hid an Ancient Times Taotie crying out to be fed. In comparison, City B’s situation was extremely complex.

Just as Tu Xiao’an was deep in thought, Manager Fengxi’s voice rang out. "Your Majesty, Ms. Luo is back."

Luo Ziyun, the newly appointed director of City X’s Demon Management Bureau, was now a very busy person. It was difficult for Tu Xiao’an to even catch a glimpse of her. This inn that belonged to her had practically become a hotel where she only stayed briefly. Tu Xiao’an had been waiting for Luo Ziyun to return so he could bid her farewell. He put down his phone, looked up, and narrowed his eyes.

Luo Ziyun hadn’t come back alone. Beside her was a man dressed in green, surprisingly wearing ancient-style attire. He looked extraordinarily handsome and possessed an indescribably dignified bearing. Furthermore, this man’s aura was very powerful. He was an official human High Rank War God. Most importantly, this guy actually walked in chatting and laughing with Luo Ziyun, and they appeared to be quite close.

Tu Xiao’an inexplicably looked up, feeling as if a pair of imaginary horns were about to sprout from his head.

Cuckold horns?
