Chapter 820: Chapter 749: Jumping Off a Building Together

Observing from Building One, Tu Xiao’an didn’t know that he was being schemed against again. Why did he think "again"? Because ever since he was reborn as a snake, he had been plotted against constantly. His current level of cunning had been entirely forged through the crucible of being targeted by others.

Right now, Tu Xiao’an’s Consciousness Power was continuously spreading out and sensing the entire Demon Management Bureau. He was trying to sense the exact location of the Ghost Demon. He couldn’t help but feel that this so-called Ghost Demon was some sort of Spirit Body without a physical form. Otherwise, there was no way he wouldn’t be able to find it.

Previously, inside the Skeleton Mountain ruins, Tu Xiao’an hadn’t been able to find Artifact Spirit Xiaoyang either, but that was different. The Artifact Spirit was the ruins, and the ruins were the Artifact Spirit. The two were merged into one. It was perfectly normal not to find it within its own Domain.

But a mere Ghost Demon? He knew for a fact that it had infiltrated the Demon Management Bureau and had even attacked some of the officers. Yet, Tu Xiao’an still couldn’t locate it. That didn’t make any sense.

The Ghost Demon was committing crimes right under his nose. Whether Tu Xiao’an chose to intervene was one thing, but failing to find it was another entirely. He liked keeping the initiative in his own hands. To him, the Ghost Demon was nothing more than a juicy piece of meat—he could eat it whenever he wanted. However, that clearly wasn’t the case right now.

Tu Xiao’an glanced at Building Two, then at Building Three. Both buildings were completely silent. Did those city bosses split into two groups just to go quiet? Was it all bark and no bite?

Suddenly...

"I’m a little, little, little bird, flying and flying..."

A human figure plummeted from the sky right past Tu Xiao’an’s line of sight, heading straight for the ground floor.

SPLAT.

There was a crisp sound. It looked as if a block of tofu had been dropped on the ground, smashing into dregs. Tu Xiao’an jumped in shock, staring blankly as a man met a violent end on the ground floor, pooling in his own blood.

"Ah!"

Xiaoqi, who was perched on the railing, was also startled and immediately dove into Tu Xiao’an’s embrace.

What was going on? An officer jumped out of a building to his death?

Tu Xiao’an was on the fifth floor of Building One, but the building had eight floors in total. The officer just now had willingly leaped from the eighth floor. He had jumped joyfully, even singing a song as if he truly believed he was a bird. A fall from the eighth floor meant certain death for any normal human.

But Tu Xiao’an frowned deeply. These were Martial Cultivators with formidable bodies! Although they weren’t Rank Three Creatures, a Rank Two physical body falling from that height wouldn’t be enough to kill them. Yet, that Rank Two officer had died instantly upon impact.

What did that mean? It meant the man hadn’t put up any defense at all. His muscles were completely relaxed, and he hadn’t released any Elemental Power to protect himself. If he had mounted even the slightest defense, the officer absolutely wouldn’t have died. At most, he would be bedridden for a month.

"I’m a little, little, little bird..."

SPLAT!

Another officer fell from the eighth floor right in front of Tu Xiao’an’s eyes. He landed headfirst, his face completely mangled, blood oozing out with a sickening sizzle. There were now two corpses on the ground floor.

"Brother Snake Emperor, what’s going on? Have all these people gone mad?" The Little White Fox looked completely bewildered. Since when was jumping off buildings a group activity?

"They must be having their minds controlled by the Ghost Demon..." Before Tu Xiao’an could finish his sentence, someone else leaped from above. This time it was a female officer. She spread her arms wide, her face filled with yearning and intoxication.

As she passed by the fifth floor on her way down from the eighth, a fluffy tail swept out and caught her, pulling her to safety.

"Let me go! Let me go! I want to fly!" The female officer flapped her arms in the air, treating them as if they were wings.

"Brother Snake Emperor, what should we do?" Xiaoqi bound the female officer tightly with her tail, stopping her from "flying" freely.

Tu Xiao’an calmly observed the female officer who desperately wanted to fly. He recalled the Ghost Wanderer from Skeleton Mountain. The Ghost Wanderer could possess a person’s body to control their actions. However, that clearly wasn’t what was happening to this female officer. She acted more like she had been hypnotized.

"Let me go! I want to fly! I want to fly!" The female officer glared angrily at the Little White Fox. It seemed she was blaming Xiaoqi for meddling.

Tu Xiao’an stared at the female officer and narrowed his eyes. Instantly, she went limp and collapsed.

BAM BAM BAM!

Over at Building Two and Building Three, more than a dozen officers suddenly plunged to their deaths. Their vibrant lives bloomed and vanished in a fleeting instant like fireworks, leaving them lying in pools of blood.

"Damn it, what are those people doing?" Tu Xiao’an cursed. Where were those city bosses? Why were they nowhere to be seen?

It was obvious the Ghost Demon was wreaking havoc. Right after arriving at the Demon Management Bureau, it had controlled the basketball-playing officers to dance madly. Now, it had escalated straight to mass suicide.

"Brother Snake Emperor, look! The blood is gone!" Xiaoqi pointed her paw at the ground floor.

Tu Xiao’an looked over and was stunned to find that the officers who had fallen into pools of their own blood were now just lifeless corpses. Not a single drop of blood could be seen on the ground anymore.

Was it absorbed? How was that possible? It had absorbed the spilled blood of the officers right under his nose.

Tu Xiao’an looked toward the dozen or so officers who had just fallen. As soon as their blood flowed out, it disappeared rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye. It looked as if the ground itself was drinking it up.

"Let’s go down and take a look." Following the "trend," Tu Xiao’an also leaped out of the building, though he landed firmly on his feet. Immediately, he closed his eyes. Black mist swirled around his body and slowly drilled down into the ground.

"CACKLE! Foolish humans, offer all your fresh blood to me!"

Deep underground, a human-shaped figure—shifting between solid and ethereal—constantly wriggled its mouth. Streams of blood continuously flowed into its body.

Suddenly, sensing something, it turned around. From all directions, masses of black mist were closing in on it.

"..."

"Damn it, Ghost Demon, get the hell out here!"

Tu Xiao’an abruptly opened his eyes, formed a fist, and slammed it into a spot on the ground. The ground exploded with a massive boom. A black shadow shot out from the crater.

It was a literal black shadow. Even materialized, it was nothing more than a silhouette. Floating in the air, it shot Tu Xiao’an a cold glare.

"Have you had enough fun? Need me to play with you?" Tu Xiao’an asked in a frosty tone as he stared at the hovering black shadow. His bewitching Snake King’s Eye gleamed with sharp light, trying to see through this ghostly entity completely.

"CACKLE... your blood smells even more delicious." The shadow finally spoke, its voice incredibly eerie.

Abruptly, a ghostly wind sprang up around Tu Xiao’an, swirling violently across the ground.

"You’re trying to control me?"

The ghostly wind enveloped him, and Tu Xiao’an instantly let out a laugh, allowing the gales to howl and tear at him without resistance.

"WHIMPER... Brother Snake Emperor, I think I’ve been hit."

The Little White Fox shook her head and struggled out of Tu Xiao’an’s embrace. She jumped down to the ground but stumbled several times like she was drunk. She looked like she couldn’t tell up from down anymore.

Tu Xiao’an cursed inwardly; he had completely forgotten about the little fox. Tu Xiao’an’s Consciousness Power was incredibly strong, so he naturally didn’t fear underhanded tricks. But the fox was different. Otherwise, considering Xiaoqi was at the Demon King Level, how could a mere gust of ghostly wind have affected her so easily?
