Chapter 33 One Sword, Slaying Evil!
Chapter 33: Chapter 33: One Sword, Slaying Evil!
The moon was hidden behind dark clouds tonight, casting no beauty over the city. A dampness filled the air, carrying the distinct promise of rain.
Feng Yin crouched on a rooftop, looking down at the Ren Sheng Group’s compound. Through the translucent crimson eye patterns on his visor, he had a crystal-clear view of the entire area. Once again, he had woken up about an hour early today. Repeating his previous routine, he set out from the roof of the Tongzi Building and headed straight for the Ren Sheng Group.
As for why he suddenly adjusted his plans and decided to make another trip here, the reason was quite simple. After defeating the Mad Beastman, combined with the upgrade of the Wolf’s Badge, the maximum Durability of his Armor had increased to 19. However, his current Durability sat at only 11—barely more than half health. For a veteran gamer, this was a deeply unsettling situation.
If not for the Wolf’s Badge, he would have likely expended his Spirituality directly to replenish his Durability by now. But since he had a way to restore his health for free, it would be a waste not to use it. And since he had to kill to recover his health anyway, although ninety-nine percent of the people in Sin City deserved to die, slaughtering the members of the Ren Sheng Group brought Feng Yin far more satisfaction than just picking random targets.
Feng Yin silently observed the scene below. From the slaughter of his previous exploration, he had deduced which of the buildings belonged to the Leader. As it was the dead of night, and electricity was a precious commodity, only a select few rooms had the privilege of keeping their lights on. These were all clustered deep within the central area.
This time, he would first eliminate the leader, Kondo, and that man, Yamanamikawa. As for the subordinates, if any dared to confront him, he would conveniently slaughter them to top off his health.
Suddenly, Feng Yin’s gaze narrowed. He spotted Yamanamikawa. Despite the pitch-black, windy night, Feng Yin’s vision through the Armor was as clear as day. The man with the Warrior topknot was stepping out of the building Feng Yin suspected belonged to the Leader, bearing an expression of gloom mixed with a trace of fear.
He wondered, "What is he afraid of?"
He pondered this as he leaped lightly forward, his cape fluttering behind him. Dropping from a two-story building nearly eight meters high, he landed on the roof of a low house with only a faint THUD. Perhaps it was due to the increased Mobility Attributes of his Armor, combined with the fact that Feng Yin had learned Martial Arts, giving him enhanced control over his body. Now, by employing simple force-dispersion techniques, he could jump from great heights in full Armor without making much noise.
Like a Ghost, he bounded a few more times and landed silently on an eave close to Yamanamikawa. Throughout his descent, not a single Ren Sheng Group guard noticed his presence.
However, Yamanamikawa was no ordinary man. He was a Fierce Level master with physical attributes far surpassing normal people.
"Who’s there?"
With his sharp senses, he vaguely detected that something was wrong. He immediately stopped in his tracks, resting his right hand on the hilt of his Katana, and slowly scanned his surroundings with high vigilance.
Hearing his voice, a nearby guard turned his head. "Wakagashira Yamanami, what are you—"
The guard’s voice cut off abruptly as his eyes reflected the terrifying figure that had been haunting his nightmares for the past few days. A pitch-black set of Armor, a Heavy Sword over a meter long, and a tattered cape flapping wildly in the wind. The descending figure resembled a starving wolf falling from the sky, pouncing straight toward Yamanamikawa!
"It’s you!" Yamanamikawa roared.
Under the dim lighting of the courtyard, he caught sight of the legendary Black Armor Swordsman. He roared out and rolled aside with blinding speed. In the very next instant, Feng Yin’s Canfeng Sword slashed right where he had been standing.
CRACK!
Gravel and stone exploded outward! Yamanamikawa’s pupils trembled violently. If a normal blade struck the ground like that, it would most likely snap. Yet, he saw this unknown longsword literally smash a web of deep fissures into the earth!
His shock did not hinder his movements. Using the momentum from his roll, Yamanamikawa swiftly drew his blade. The rolling Lai Stance draw was one of the Techniques found in almost all the Swordsmanship Flows of the Genroku Country. Once his blade was drawn, Yamanamikawa’s terrified heart settled slightly.
Meanwhile, triggered by his earlier shout, the already on-edge Ren Sheng Group instantly boiled over in a panic. Amidst the clamorous shouts, lights flickered on in every room one after another.
Feng Yin felt a slight tinge of regret that his sneak attack had missed. He turned around to face Yamanamikawa. His opponent had unsheathed his blade and was now glaring at him intensely, clutching the sword with both hands.
"Black Armor Swordsman..." Yamanamikawa growled through gritted teeth, assuming the mid-level posture, ’Middle Preface’, of the Swordsmanship Flow he practiced. But he was interrupted before he could utter another word.
Feng Yin had already charged forward, his blade Slashing down diagonally. Yamanamikawa immediately sidestepped, raising his blade to slide against the Canfeng Sword, intending to Skew the heavy blow away.
CLANG!
The moment their blades crossed, Yamanamikawa’s expression changed drastically. He realized with horror how heavy the Slashing blow was! Even though it was just a glancing block, the sheer force nearly knocked the Katana out of his hands! He staggered several steps backward, feeling a searing pain in the webbing between his thumb and forefinger. The sword was too fast and the blade too heavy to confront head-on!
He thought, "Clad in Heavy Armor and wielding a Heavy Sword, he shouldn’t be able to sustain such explosive power for long. I just need to stall for time until the boss and the others arrive..."
However, the moment this thought surfaced in Yamanamikawa’s mind, the Black Armor Swordsman blurred before his eyes!
SWISH!
Feng Yin burst forward with a low, explosive leap, striking like a famished wolf! It was the Wolf Leap Step! Unlike the Stealing Step, this footwork shifted from high-frequency, rapid short steps into an explosive bounding leap. Because of this, the Wolf Leap Step could seamlessly integrate with other actions. Riding this momentum, Feng Yin swung the Canfeng Sword horizontally from right to left!
"I can’t dodge!" Yamanamikawa realized. His face twisted fiercely as he immediately raised his blade to Block it by force.
CRACK!
The instant the blades met, that fine Katana forged of Fine Steel was snapped in half by a single strike! Shock and despair flashed through Yamanamikawa’s eyes. The Canfeng Sword’s power remained tyrannical, sweeping through him with undiminished momentum.
SLICE!
Amidst the gruesome sound of tearing flesh, Feng Yin’s frenzied black silhouette dashed past the bisected remains of Yamanamikawa. One strike to slay a Fierce Level!
Even in death, Yamanamikawa never expected that he wouldn’t die because his Martial Arts were inferior, but because his weapon had failed him. Truthfully, if his blade hadn’t broken, Yamanamikawa, as a Fierce Level veteran, could have held his ground against Feng Yin for a while. Though he hadn’t yet reached the Instant Level, his years of bodily refinement granted him a powerful physique several times stronger than an ordinary person’s. Combined with his masterful Techniques, he should have put up a decent fight. Instead, he had been instantly killed in a single blow, before he even had the chance to use his Sword Technique’s Secret Sword Form!
Yet, no matter how much remorse or reluctance he harbored, death put an end to all things.
After severing Yamanamikawa with a single sweeping strike, Feng Yin didn’t pause for even a second. He charged straight toward the building Yamanamikawa had just exited! This bloody clash had unfolded in a mere matter of seconds. When the Ren Sheng Group members rushed out of their rooms with weapons in hand, all they saw was Yamanamikawa lying dead on the ground, his eyes wide open in disbelief—and a dark shadow pouncing toward Kondo Makoto’s quarters.
"Wakagashira Yamanami is dead!"
"Enemy attack!"
"The Black Armor Swordsman!"
"A Ghost! That evil Ghost is back!"
In a flash, the entire Ren Sheng Group stronghold erupted in chaos. A small fraction of the men rushed toward Kondo Makoto’s house to provide backup, but the vast majority turned tail without a second thought, fleeing for their lives toward the stronghold’s exit! These men had already had their courage utterly broken by the Black Armor Swordsman during his last one-against-a-hundred slaughter. None of them dared to provoke that terrifying Ghost again!
