Is Your Armor Legal
Chapter 60 Monster?
Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Monster?
A few seconds later.
The laboratory’s backup lights flickered on. What appeared before everyone’s eyes was the professor, already taken hostage. The man restraining him was a handsome, blond young researcher—someone normally gentle and elegant, highly adored by the female staff.
Soon after, someone cried out in alarm, "The guards are dead!"
Everyone immediately turned to look, discovering that the armed guards stationed in the four corners of the room were all lying dead on the floor. A sharp card was embedded in each of their throats.
Despite being held captive by the young man, the professor didn’t look overly panicked. He simply said calmly, "I remember you. You’re Senior Researcher Ryan, aren’t you? I never expected you to be such a formidable... Combat Expert."
The handsome blond man known as Ryan smiled faintly. "As expected of Professor Mueller, able to remain so composed in a situation like this. I need to get out, and I need your clearance to open the door. Please cooperate."
Professor Mueller nodded slightly. "I can cooperate. If possible, just try not to kill me."
"Don’t worry, I’m not that slasher. I don’t enjoy killing people." Ryan smiled gently. Still holding Professor Mueller hostage, he turned to leave the room.
Just before stepping out, Professor Mueller saw Ryan flick his wrist. In the next instant, several streaks of white shadow flashed past his eyes, curving through the air and out the door.
SLICE SLICE SLICE!
The sound of sharp objects slicing through flesh echoed, followed immediately by muffled groans of pain and chaotic gunfire. A few seconds later, Ryan gave a soft chuckle and walked out the door with Professor Mueller. Several guards stationed in the laboratory lobby had already collapsed dead, cards lodged in their throats.
"Excellent card throwing," Professor Mueller praised.
"You flatter me. It’s just a cheap trick." Ryan pushed him quickly forward. The two soon reached the entrance of the main lobby, which was filled with incubation tanks.
At that moment, a middle-aged man in an electrician’s uniform walked out of the entrance and bumped into Ryan.
Ryan smiled and lifted his chin at him. "Baal, after spending half a year in this boring place, we can finally go back and take a vacation."
The middle-aged man smiled slightly. "I actually think it’s pretty nice here. Every day, I wake up, eat, and go back to sleep when I’m full."
"I really envy you. Over the last six months, between doing experiments and writing reports, I’ve worked so much overtime I’m about to throw up," Ryan said with a shrug. "Oh—right."
Remembering something, Ryan snatched the tablet from Mueller’s hands, navigated to an authorization screen, and held it in front of the professor. "Professor Mueller, please authorize this."
Mueller’s expression shifted slightly. "This is the management System for all Adjuster test subjects. Didn’t you just want to get out?"
Ryan shook his head with a beaming smile and said leisurely, "Professor, please cooperate. Don’t make things difficult for me."
Taking a deep breath, Mueller looked down at the tablet’s login screen and logged into the System using facial recognition. He then watched as Ryan took back the tablet and tapped rapidly on the screen.
Witnessing his actions, Mueller’s expression changed drastically. He nearly reached out to stop him. "What are you doing?! You’re going to release all those test subjects?"
Ryan laughed. "Just causing a little trouble for the Zero Point Consortium, that’s all. It’s all so we can leave smoothly."
Clenching his fists, Mueller closed his eyes and said in a heavy tone, "You’ll kill a lot of people doing this..."
Ryan merely shoved him forward, walking briskly toward the laboratory’s main exit. "An anti-human scientist conducting human experiments shouldn’t fret over such things. Let’s go, let’s go. Otherwise, those monsters are going to catch up to us."
The three of them swiftly left the laboratory.
Back in the experimental lobby, the researchers watched in terror as the indicator lights on all the incubation tanks lit up, signaling that the awakening serum was being injected. At the same time, the tops of all the tanks began to slowly open.
From the isolated rooms further inside, a chorus of screams erupted one after another.
The Scale Person, Lisetta, who had been frantically pounding against his glass enclosure, suddenly realized that the glass shield in front of him was rising! A pleasantly surprised and cruel smile slowly spread across his scale-covered face.
A heavy armored vehicle parked in front of Death Madness Tower.
The rear doors opened, and four armed guards jumped out first. After checking their surroundings, they turned back and said respectfully, "Honored guests, you may step out now."
Xie Jingyuan jumped down next, followed closely by Feng Yin, Xie Yanran, and Hong Yuan. Last of all was Xiao Yu. The group silently formed a protective circle around her.
This formation made Xiao Yu feel a little stifled. "Master, I actually have some combat power now. Everyone can focus more on protecting themselves..."
"Cut the nonsense," Xie Jingyuan scolded her flatly. "Don’t be willful during emergencies."
"Oh." Xiao Yu was just talking back a bit; after being scolded, she meekly tucked her head in like a frightened quail.
With two guards leading the way with submachine guns, the group swiftly entered the Death Madness Tower building. The main lobby was stained with blood, and several corpses lay strewn across the floor. It seemed the lethality of the recent drone riot had been truly terrifying.
Xie Jingyuan asked calmly, "Where are the drones?"
Xie Jingyuan was indeed extremely strong, but if he had to face a synchronized volley from a mechanical drone swarm... One could only say that while he would certainly have a way to survive, all his disciples behind him would definitely die.
A guard quickly replied, "Rest assured, everyone. Due to the riot, all drones have been recalled to the warehouse to ensure safety. Currently, all security within the building has been taken over by human personnel."
"Following Mr. Simon’s arrangements," another guard chimed in, "I’ll take you all to the central main elevator straight to the top floor. The helicopter is already in position."
As they spoke, everyone advanced at a brisk pace, soon turning into a wide corridor leading to the elevators.
"ROAR..."
Suddenly, a faint roaring sound echoed toward them.
Xie Jingyuan frowned. "What was that noise?"
The four elite guards had originally been transferred from the underground laboratory to serve as backup personnel. Hearing this familiar roar, they froze for a moment. Then, as if remembering something, their expressions drastically changed.
"It’s the test subjects!"
"They broke out?!"
Sensing that something was wrong, Feng Yin quickly grabbed a guard next to him. "What test subjects?!"
The guard’s eyes were filled with panic. "It’s, it’s..." He abruptly shut his mouth, clearly recalling his duty to maintain confidentiality.
Reacting extremely fast, another guard said, "Honored guests, we need to hurry. The situation is very dangerous now!"
Without prior agreement, the four guards broke from their brisk walk into a light jog. Naturally, Feng Yin and the others immediately kept pace. At this point, the group was less than a hundred meters from the elevator doors at the end of the corridor.
BANG!
The security door in the middle of the corridor suddenly shook with an explosive noise.
BANG BANG BANG!
A continuous series of heavy impacts followed. The four guards immediately raised their guns and aimed. They wanted to stop.
However, Xie Jingyuan’s cold voice rang out, "Don’t stop, keep running!"
Since everyone naturally followed his lead, they instantly accelerated and dashed toward the elevators. Within seconds, the group swiftly rushed past the security door that was being continuously battered by something on the other side.
They quickly reached the elevator and pressed the button. The numbers on the display screen flickered, dropping downward from "28."
"Damn it! Why do we still have to wait?!" one guard cursed, his eyes fraught with tension. He seemed absolutely terrified. The other three guards also looked incredibly shaken.
Xie Jingyuan said coldly, "There have always been rumors that the Zero Point Consortium is conducting secret biological experiments. You guys have been secretly breeding some kind of monsters, haven’t you?"
The four guards paused, none of them speaking.
Xiao Yu, who was extremely skilled at reading the room, stated bluntly, "Looks like my master hit the nail on the head."
BOOM!
As they spoke, the security door in the middle of the corridor was smashed open. A large number of naked people with violently frenzied expressions surged out from within.
"Oh my!" Xiao Yu immediately covered her eyes with her hands, though the gaps between her fingers were suspiciously wide.
Those bizarre individuals had already spotted the group at the end of the corridor. As if completely unafraid of the armed guards, they roared madly and charged toward them.
Feng Yin quickly raised his shield and drew the longsword from his back. At the same time, possessing extremely strong eyesight, he noticed that these people had varying amounts of scales on their bodies!
He wondered, "What are these? Bio-engineered humans?"
Beside him, Xie Jingyuan stated mildly, "Just as I thought. They’re Adjusters."
In the next moment, the muzzles of the four guards’ guns spat tongues of fire at the freaks.
