Chapter 73 Broken Blade Enters the Spear

  • Next Chapter

Under the blood moon, a white raven stood on a stone pillar, looking down from a bird’s-eye view. Reflected deep within its crimson eyes was a scene of deadly tension.

In the clearing before the Monastery gates, two tall figures clad in Armor stood in a silent standoff.

The Knight Commander guarding the Monastery wore rusted bright silver Armor. Gripping a peculiar, plain-looking long spear with both hands, he assumed a highly aggressive forward-leaning stance.

Clad in black Wolf Armor, Feng Yin held his sword with both hands, letting it hang in front of his waist. With the tip subtly pointing toward his opponent’s chest and abdomen, he adopted the mid-level “Human” stance of Jiao Swordsmanship.

Recalling the Knight Commander’s abilities in his mind, his vigilance gradually heightened. If a player chose the Monastery as their starting location in the game, they actually wouldn’t encounter this Knight Commander Elite. The number of patrolling guards in the plaza would also be reduced from ten to five. The reason was simple: as the first level for a beginner, this setup was too difficult. It was very hard to clear it with Armor in its initial state.

Naturally, the hardest part of it all lay with this Knight Commander.

From Feng Yin’s perspective, the opponents capable of posing a threat in this game were primarily divided into a few types: monster mobs, large beast-like monsters, and large humanoid monsters.

Mobs went without saying. Unless they couldn’t break his defense, as long as they swarmed together, they would be extremely troublesome for him, given his lack of area-of-effect methods. Compared to the “beast forms” of a Demon Wolf or a Mad Beastman, the “humanoid” Elites or Leaders often posed a much greater threat.

The Knight Commander before him was exactly this type of humanoid Elite monster. Without a movement method like the Stealing Step, the Knight Commander’s final explosive Techniques would be quite difficult to handle.

Moreover, there was a gap in weapon lengths between the two. Feng Yin’s Canfeng Sword had a blade length of 1.2 meters, while the Knight Commander’s sword Gun Blade was over half a meter long, and its Long Handle was well over two meters.

In the game, this discrepancy in attack range wouldn’t be a problem. The program gave monsters various attack intervals and pauses to provide players with windows of opportunity to strike. But now that the game had undergone Materialization, enemies fought much more flexibly. If he continued to fight as if he were playing a game, Feng Yin would definitely bite the dust very soon. Dying in a game meant you could restart, but if he failed now, the outcome would be hard to say.

While thinking silently, Feng Yin had already decided on a combat strategy. Stomping his foot, he decisively launched a charge. The distance between the two instantly shortened.

The moment Feng Yin crossed into a certain range, the Knight Commander abruptly moved. Taking an incredibly simple step forward, he thrust both hands out.

SWISH!

A sharp glint flared like a shooting cold star! The Sharp spear tip thrust directly toward Feng Yin’s chest.

Feng Yin originally thought he had mentally prepared himself. Yet, faced with this meteor-like thrust, his heart still skipped a beat. He instantly activated the Stealing Step, retreating several meters away like a shifting phantom.

The Knight Commander also quickly retracted his spear and resumed his Recovery stance, as if he had never moved.

If Feng Yin had a physical body right now, his forehead would definitely be covered in sweat.

The Attributes of the Knight Commander opposite him should be like the Mad Beastman’s, definitely higher than the base Attributes of Feng Yin’s Armor. For example, Feng Yin’s current Armor Liberation Level was “13%”. Excluding the bonus from the Wolf’s Badge, his corresponding base Four Dimensions were “13”. As an end-of-level boss, the Mad Beastman’s Four Dimensions were likely “18”.

Meanwhile, the Knight Commander before him, being a minor Elite, had to have at least “15” or “16”. In other words, although the Knight Commander’s Value wasn’t as high as the “19” in Feng Yin’s Wolf Slaughter Mode, it wasn’t far off. He might even be slightly stronger than Ya Lie.

Of course, the Knight Commander shouldn’t have Ya Lie’s exquisite Swordsmanship and wondrous See Through ability. This naturally meant nothing in the game. Monsters were programmed to be relatively sluggish anyway, giving players a high margin for error.

But this was reality now. The slight advantage Feng Yin had in Attributes over his opponent was almost completely leveled out by the opponent’s nearly three-meter-long spear.

Advancing on a spear with a single blade was a near-fatal endeavor. Feng Yin had heard this phrase plenty of times back on Earth. At the time, he only conceptually understood that Long Handle weapons had a huge advantage. But now, officially facing a spearman, he truly felt how intimidating that massive extra attack range was. He feared that only by gaining Enlightenment of that profound ability to Pre-read action telegraphs could one ignore a weapon’s length advantage…

He thought, “Fortunately, I am no longer just a regular person who only knows how to play games… Being cautious is just to save Blood Volume…”

Feng Yin adjusted his movements, holding his sword backward with both hands to assume the Hidden Blade stance. In the Domain of armed combat, the difference between learning Martial Arts and not learning them was massive. Let alone the fact that what he had learned was Extraordinary Martial Arts…

The next moment, he charged once again!

The Knight Commander also thrust out a lethal strike the instant Feng Yin entered his attack range.

Stealing Step!

Feng Yin’s figure twisted rapidly, dodging the lethal thrust on the spot by sidestepping as if using Shrinking Land to compress the distance. Then, without a moment’s pause, he immediately chained it into another footwork technique.

Wolf Leap Step!

In an instant, he bounded back toward the Knight Commander in a manner that seemingly defied the laws of Physics and inertia. With two shifts in position, he instantly broke into the Knight Commander’s spear range!

By this time, the Knight Commander had also completed retracting his spear. Facing Feng Yin’s extremely abrupt close-quarters maneuver, the Knight Commander showed no signs of panic. Like a machine, he swiftly swung his spear in a lateral sweep toward Feng Yin.

Now!

Feng Yin forcefully stomped the ground, twisting his body to drive his arms. Adopting the Washing Sword stance, the Canfeng Sword slashed diagonally forward from his bottom right. The sword’s edge clashed against the Knight Commander’s spear handle in a flash.

In the split second of their collision, Feng Yin’s Canfeng Sword trembled violently!

CLANG!

The Knight Commander’s spear was knocked high into the air by this unexpected Shock Force, leaving his defenses wide open!

It was the Azure Dragon Shocking Horn! Indeed, Feng Yin had executed the first Fixed Form of the Cyan Dragon Secret Sword!

Even though he had no physical body in this “game” and couldn’t activate the Dragon Transformation State, which meant he shouldn’t be able to use the Cyan Dragon Secret Sword. After all, Dragon Transformation was the prerequisite for the Cyan Dragon Secret Sword. This state didn’t just enhance the user’s bodily functions. More importantly, it granted the user the ability to manipulate their muscles to execute more “specific force exertions.”

All the Fixed Forms of the Cyan Dragon Secret Sword relied on this special force exertion to be effective.

However, after learning the Cyan Dragon Secret Sword, Feng Yin had naturally experimented in secret and reached a conclusion—in the Armor’s materialized state, he could execute the special force exertions exclusive to the Dragon Transformation State even without activating Dragon Transformation.

As for the reason, Feng Yin naturally attributed it to the “Supernatural” uniqueness of the Armor. If he had to come up with a logical deduction, it would be that after donning the Armor, the power he wielded as a Spirit Binder originated from the Armor itself. In essence, this Armor was no different from his own body. Any movement or exertion of force he could control his body to perform, he could naturally achieve by controlling the Armor.

Therefore, although he had no physical body in the game, he could still unleash this “technical” Fixed Form!

In the next split second, Feng Yin seized the opportunity, stepping forward with a fierce chopping slash.

CLANG!

The Canfeng Sword struck heavily against the wide-open chest of the Knight Commander, instantly cleaving a massive gash into his seemingly sturdy Armor. Through the gash, withered flesh and blood could faintly be seen.
