Chapter 198: Chapter 145: I’m That Sister-in-Law

It was 5:30 PM, and many people were already off work.

Whether they were on the subway, the bus, or just walking, they were all staring down, doing the same thing:

playing on their phones.

And a certain portion of them happened to follow Yan Xici’s account.

They had nothing better to do, and with such a sensational title,

it was hard not to watch.

As the number of viewers in the livestream steadily climbed, it reached over two thousand in just a few minutes.

Yan Xici sat at the desk in her bedroom. Behind her was her soft, full-size bed with pink sheets, on top of which sat a large, pink Hello Kitty plush.

The lighting in the room wasn’t great because of the weather outside.

The girl stood up, turned on the overhead light, and then returned to the camera.

The cozy, warm yellow light made her look even softer.

Her skin was also insanely good, like soft, jiggly white Jell-O.

It made people watching the stream want to reach out and poke their phone screens.

The girl pursed her small, rosy lips, her pretty eyes filled with a hint of embarrassment.

After all, giving an explanation required courage.

Especially in front of so many people.

She had never been someone with a strong mental fortitude.

Yan Xici took two deep breaths. Her nervousness likely made her unconsciously lick her slightly red lips.

Her flustered gaze finally met the camera lens.

"Um, h-hello, everyone. Let me reintroduce myself. I’m the ’brainless sister-in-law’ from this morning’s TikTok video that so many of you were furious with."

The girl’s voice wasn’t very loud, and her nervousness was obvious from her tone.

Hearing her introduce herself like that, many self-proclaimed keyboard warriors immediately started their attacks.

The chat exploded with comments.

IamMike: I used to think you were a decent person, but I can’t believe you’re a demon who screws over her own sister!

XiaoKe: How does it feel to steal your sister’s husband? Must feel great, right? A real sense of accomplishment?

Pathetic: You’re a real great sister to her!

Idontgetit: Heh, people will do anything for clout these days. Even airing their dirty laundry online so brazenly? You must be desperate for money!

SaveTheChildren: You sure know how to chase clout!

FamilyUnderling: Don’t say that...

kemifen: I think she must have her reasons. Let’s hear her out first. Everybody, calm down, don’t get too invested!

The sheer volume and speed of the comments caused the livestream’s viewer count, originally at two thousand, to skyrocket to five thousand in minutes.

Watching the comments fly by so fast she couldn’t even read them before they were pushed off-screen, the girl’s heart ached, even though she had prepared herself for this.

She couldn’t help but sniffle, and the light in her bright, pretty eyes dimmed.

"This whole thing... it’s not what you think. The reason I started this stream to explain is so everyone can know the whole truth."

Yan Xici’s voice was soft and timid, trembling slightly with nervousness.

Beneath the desk, her small hands were clenched tightly together.

She lowered her head and continued, "Actually, it’s not like what people are saying online. They got divorced first, and then we got together."

"And he’s not a kept man. The video online was posted maliciously by someone, and it’s already affecting his life."

At this, the chat started flooding with comments again in response to her words.

KClark: So that’s your excuse for sleeping in the same bed as your brother-in-law, huh?~

Mingming: I feel like if they got together after the divorce, it’s not totally unforgivable. They’re independent individuals, after all.

KeKeDu: True dat. But I’m more curious about how I can get a sister-in-law this hot.

She’s defending the guy she likes, and she’s gorgeous. Who wouldn’t like that?

Besides, it wasn’t their business anyway. They were just here for the drama.

Just then, Zhang Chuan, who was slacking off at work, saw Yan Xici’s livestream and decisively clicked on it. He watched the girl on the screen, who, despite her pained expression, still looked gentle and sweet.

Zhang Chuan was so startled that he instinctively uncrossed his legs.

’Holy cow, what is happening?’

’She’s outing herself?’

He never would have thought it. This girl, who always seemed so timid, could actually do something so brave at a critical moment.

’She must really like Xiao Ran to be willing to draw all the fire like this!’

With that thought, he quickly called Xiao Ran.

Xiao Ran had just gotten off work and was excitedly heading home, ready to tell Yan Xici that he’d sold the rights to another one of his works.

Just as he reached his little e-scooter, the phone in his pocket rang.

He reached in, pulled out his phone, and answered, "Hello? What’s up?"

"What’s up? Haven’t you seen the livestream?! Yan Xici is live right now, telling everyone she’s the sister-in-law from the video! She’s trying to explain that it’s not what the video this morning made it out to be. You need to see this, quick!"

Zhang Chuan hung up as soon as he finished talking.

Right now, he was nothing but nervous.

Honestly, anyone who knew Yan Xici would say she was a polite and well-behaved girl.

Her actions today, in particular, made even a man like Zhang Chuan admire her.

He was genuinely worried that the netizens would flame her until she had a breakdown.

Hearing the dial tone from the other end of the line, Xiao Ran’s face was a mask of shock unlike any he’d worn before.

’She’s actually livestreaming an explanation... for my sake?’
