I've Divorced Your Sister, Why Are You Still Here?
Chapter 37: They’re Actually Living Together?
Chapter 37: Chapter 37: They’re Actually Living Together?
’But Xiao Ran... why does he seem even more carefree than I am?’
’Not a hint of reluctance to let go?’
Yan Li was very smart, but she was also an extremely possessive woman.
The more she thought about it now, the angrier she got, and she couldn’t help but toss her phone aside.
Besides, she still hadn’t gotten a chance to get her clothes from that house. She would go over right now.
And she could see for herself if Xiao Ran was really doing so well.
With that thought, the woman sat up in bed, quickly changed her clothes, and casually tied up her hair.
She walked to the shoe cabinet, slipped on her high heels, grabbed her Panamera keys, and turned to leave.
Xiao Ran and Yan Xici had just finished breakfast.
Xiao Ran picked up the two empty plates and went into the kitchen.
He was about to go back for the glasses when he saw the girl standing by the table. Holding two juice glasses in her small, fair hands, she was hopping into the kitchen on one leg.
Like a little rabbit.
She was wearing that set of loose, white loungewear today.
She had casually braided her hair into two pigtails, and the stray hairs at her forehead were held back with a cute little bear clip.
It made her already pretty, oval face look even more petite.
Xiao Ran was startled. He walked toward her, holding out both hands.
"Whoa, whoa, let me get that. Be careful you don’t fall."
The girl chuckled, twisted her little body, and slipped right under his arm.
"It’s fine, I’ve got it. Besides, only my leg is hurt, not my hands."
’If I don’t do some work, I’m going to turn into a useless little freeloader.’
After speaking, the girl carefully made her way to the kitchen sink.
Xiao Ran couldn’t be bothered to argue with her. Watching her obedient back, he said, "Alright, have it your way."
With that, he turned and walked toward the study.
The manuscript was almost finished. If all went well, he could take it to Liu Min this afternoon.
Xiao Ran was the type of person who planned things out; he didn’t like to procrastinate.
However, just as he reached the study door, he heard the familiar sound of high heels from outside.
Following a few beeps from the electronic lock, the door was opened from the outside.
And in walked Yan Li.
Xiao Ran stared in astonishment at Yan Li, who was standing before him in casual clothes.
"What are you doing here?"
Hearing his words, the girl washing the glasses felt her heart drop.
’Who?’
’Who’s here?’
Her eyes widened as she looked out in terror.
And saw her sister walking into the house!!!
The girl’s eyelid twitched!
Her heart leaped into her throat, and her brain completely shut down.
Only a single thought filled her mind.
’I’m screwed!’
CRASH. The glass cup fell into the sink, clattering against the metal basin.
Hearing the noise, Yan Li froze and instinctively turned to look toward the kitchen.
Their eyes met, and the astonishment on Yan Li’s face was beyond words.
"Yan Xici???"
She was so shocked that she blurted out her full name.
’How could my sister be here?’
’Isn’t she supposed to be at school?’
It all happened so suddenly. The girl in the kitchen felt as if her head had been zapped with electricity—she was dazed and numb.
For a moment, she even wondered if she was dreaming.
’What do I do, what do I do.’
The more the girl thought, the more nervous she became. In just three seconds, she was already breaking out in a sweat.
The atmosphere in the room suddenly grew strange.
Xiao Ran looked at the bewildered Yan Xici, then at the stern-faced Yan Li.
He cleared his throat, his tone carrying an indescribable distance.
"Have you forgotten something? This is my house now. Barging in like this without so much as a word doesn’t seem very appropriate, does it?"
’If I remember correctly, we’re divorced.’
’She’s not the mistress of this house anymore.’
Yan Li was still completely dumbfounded.
She was in no mood to talk to Xiao Ran. She turned and strode straight into the kitchen in her high heels.
She stared in astonishment at the timid girl across from her.
"Aren’t you supposed to be at school right now? Why are you here?"
The girl was so scared that her forehead and palms were breaking out in a cold sweat.
Her gaze flickered evasively; she didn’t dare look up at Yan Li at all.
’Looks like I’m really, really done for this time. My sister must be furious.’
"I..."
Feeling guilty, the girl was so nervous she couldn’t even form an explanation.
Watching the flustered Yan Xici, Yan Li couldn’t help but narrow her eyes as something seemed to click into place.
’The last time I went to see her at school, I thought she was acting strange.’
’It looks like she never moved into the dorm at all. She was just putting on an act for me!’
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. She couldn’t stop herself from smacking Yan Xici on the back. "Is this how you treat me?"
’I’m her sister, not her enemy! How could she lie to me like this!’
With a dull THUD from the impact on her back, the girl flinched and shrank her neck, hanging her head even lower.
Her aggrieved expression was enough to make anyone’s heart ache for her.
"I... I didn’t want to live in the dorms..."
She just didn’t want to live in the dorms, and she didn’t want to live with her sister, either.
Yan Li’s eyes widened. She simply couldn’t understand!
"If you didn’t want to live in the dorms, you could have stayed with me! Why did you lie to me?"
’I’m her own sister, for crying out loud.’
At this point, the girl knew she couldn’t hide it anymore.
She licked her lips. ’Maybe... maybe I should just tell the truth.’
’Besides, the truth was bound to come out eventually.’
’Even if I got away with it this time, who knows if there’d be a next time.’
’I can’t keep living in fear like this.’
She hung her head, looking like she’d done something wrong. "I... I just felt that my brother-in-law was pitiful, so I wanted to keep him company, that’s all..."
Yan Li almost laughed in exasperation at her explanation.
’Pitiful?’
’How is he pitiful?’
’Am I not the pitiful one here?’
"You’ve really got some nerve. Are you saying the divorce was my fault? Fine... even if it was my fault, that’s no reason for you to stay here! Don’t you forget, you’re a girl!"
Yan Li felt like her entire worldview was being shattered.
’When an older sister and brother-in-law get divorced, any other younger sister would go and give the brother-in-law a piece of her mind. But my sister? She does the opposite and refuses to leave his side.’
’If word of this gets out, I’ll be the biggest laughingstock!’
And it wouldn’t just be her; Yan Xici’s reputation would be ruined too.
Yan Li grabbed the girl’s arm and started pulling her out. "Let’s go. You’re coming back with me."
’No matter what, I have to take her away today.’
Furious, Yan Li’s grip was not light, and it made Yan Xici’s wrist ache with pain.
The girl instinctively grabbed the kitchen doorframe. She held on so tightly that her normally rosy, lustrous nails began to turn white.
"Sis, let go first."
The girl was so frantic she was sweating profusely.
Seeing her refuse to move, Yan Li was so angry she could have stomped her feet. "Let go!"
Seeing this, Xiao Ran hurried over. "Hey, just talk! There’s no need to get physical!"
He quickly pulled Yan Li away and shielded Yan Xici behind him.
There was no other reason; he just couldn’t stand to see Yan Li bullying someone younger than her.
While it was perfectly understandable for an older sister to discipline her younger sister, this wasn’t the right way to do it.
