Chapter 58: Chapter 57: Fallen in Love After All

Xiao Ran said firmly, "We’re not getting back together!"

Qiu Yuru pondered for a moment before speaking slowly. "Alright, then. Mom respects your decision."

’If they really can’t make it work anymore, then so be it.’

’You can’t force happiness,’ she thought. ’I know that much.’

’Besides, once someone has their mind set on divorce, there’s really no stopping them.’

’Still, life is so long. It would be too lonely to go through it without a companion.’

She still hoped her son would find someone.

Qiu Yuru thought for a moment. "Well, when you have some time, you should start thinking about finding someone new. After all, you’re not getting any younger. You still need to have a family."

"Don’t let one failed marriage make you lose hope in life."

"If you find someone who’s genuinely good to you, it doesn’t matter if her situation isn’t perfect. Even if she has a kid, that’s fine. After all, this would be your second marriage..."

Qiu Yuru had been around the block. When it came to marriage, she knew how things worked.

Most people getting married for the second time, unless they’re exceptionally well-off, end up with someone else who’s also been divorced.

Why is that?

Because people who’ve never been married aren’t usually willing to marry someone who’s divorced.

When most people hear someone is divorced, their first reaction is always, ’Why did they get divorced?’

They’ve never been married once, and this would be your second time. Who would be happy about that?

But Xiao Ran had gone and gotten a divorce.

As his mother, of course, she had to lay out the situation for her son ahead of time.

Xiao Ran: "..."

’What is she even talking about?’ he thought. ’Who said I have to get remarried? And to someone with a kid?’

’Leave it to my mom to come up with that.’

"Mom, you’re getting way ahead of yourself."

"What do you mean, ’ahead of myself’? This is the reality you’re facing! Let me tell you, it’s not easy for a divorced man to find someone. You need to be mentally prepared, and you can’t be so picky anymore, understand?"

Xiao Ran: "..."

He felt this conversation couldn’t go on.

"Mom, uh... don’t worry about it, okay? It’s getting late, so you should get some sleep. I’ve still got some stuff to do here, so I’ll talk to you later."

With that, he hurriedly hung up.

The line went dead. Qiu Yuru complained, "That little brat! I wasn’t even finished talking and he hung up on me. Tell me, was I wrong? Honestly!"

In bed, Xiao Shengrong looked at her nervously. "So they really got divorced?"

Qiu Yuru shot him an irritated glare. "Obviously!"

’I just spent all that time lecturing our son. If it weren’t real, would I be this worried?’

Seeing the look on her face, Xiao Shengrong sighed, silently closing the book in his hands and placing it on the nightstand.

His expression grew serious as well.

In his eyes, Xiao Ran had always been a sensible, filial son.

But this time, he’d gotten divorced without even telling them. That was something they’d never imagined would happen.

’I wonder what our son actually went through.’

The more Qiu Yuru thought about it, the more worried she became. She sat cross-legged on the bed and gave Xiao Shengrong a speculative look.

"Do you think... because of the divorce, he’ll become completely dispirited? Or fall into a slump?"

Honestly, she was very worried about her son’s state of mind.

Hearing this, Xiao Shengrong smacked his lips thoughtfully. "I don’t think it’s that bad, is it? When he was talking to you, how did he sound?"

Qiu Yuru shook her head, her expression serious. "I can’t really say."

She couldn’t quite put her finger on it. He sounded calm enough, but it was that very calmness that unsettled her.

Looking at her ghostly white face, Xiao Shengrong muttered, "Alright, stop thinking about it. They’re divorced, and that’s that. Why don’t you wash that face mask off first? You look kind of scary..."

’They’re already divorced, what else can we do?’

"Good! I hope I scare you to death!" Qiu Yuru shot him a glare and stomped off to the bathroom impatiently.

A few minutes later, she returned with the mask washed off, climbed back onto the bed in her pajamas, and sat down.

"What do you think? Should we go see how our son is doing?"

They had nothing better to do anyway, and going to see him would put their minds at ease.

At her words, Xiao Shengrong shook his head. "I’m not going. You can go if you want!"

’They’re already divorced. What’s the point of me going?’

It would be better if Qiu Yuru just went by herself.

"Fine, don’t go! I’ll go by myself!"

...

Meanwhile, the girl finally finished her shower.

Since it was summer, she only blow-dried her hair partway, applied some hair oil, and planned to let the rest air-dry.

This was a little hair-care trick known only to girls.

The truth is, blow-dryers are actually quite damaging to your hair.

Drying it completely, while satisfying, can lead to hair loss and dryness.

But blow-drying it only halfway avoids that.

Perhaps because she had just showered, the girl’s skin looked astonishingly good.

Her hair was also still slightly damp.

She was wearing pink loungewear and strawberry-print slippers, pattering out of the bathroom.

She hung her freshly washed underwear—a white, semi-sheer pair of panties with a bow, and the matching bra—on the balcony to dry.

The girl used to have her own bathroom, so she usually hung her underwear to dry in there.

But now that she didn’t have a private bathroom, her only choice for drying her underwear was the balcony.

After hanging up her underwear, the girl eagerly hurried back to her room to read the latest Chapter update.

’I haven’t had a chance to read all day!’

’I can’t wait!’

Hearing the apartment fall completely silent, Xiao Ran stretched. He’d had a long day himself.

’I should probably go take a shower.’

With that thought, he got up and headed into the bathroom.

Since the girl had just showered, the bathroom was filled with steam.

It also carried a unique, pleasant fragrance, like freesias. It smelled wonderful.

Xiao Ran took off his clothes, turned on the water, and started to shower. Compared to women, a man’s shower routine was much simpler.

Shampoo and body wash were all he needed.

After his shower, Xiao Ran washed his own underwear and then walked out of the bathroom, heading for the balcony.

He wasn’t even all the way there when he looked up and saw the girl’s full set of underwear on the drying rack, seemingly staring right at him.

The white, lacy top looked incredibly alluring.

The bottoms were also lacy, shaped like flower petals, with two little bows on each side.

A cool breeze blew past, making the ribbons on the bows sway.

It was as if they were saying, ’Come on, come on... come over here!’

The sight made Xiao Ran’s face flush.

’I’ll have to put up with this for another month,’ he told himself.

He kept repeating a mantra to himself: ’Don’t lose your cool. Stay calm. That’s your ex-wife’s sister!’

After psyching himself up, he swallowed hard and turned to walk toward his bedroom.

When he got to his doorway, he couldn’t help but glance at Yan Xici’s room. The light was still on.

’I wonder what she’s doing in there.’

With that thought, he turned, went into his room, and silently closed the door.

’If only closing off his heart were as simple as closing a door.’
