Chapter 62: Chapter 61: This Girl Is Just So Considerate

The nervous girl had no idea what to say.

She wrung her small, fair hands, her dewy eyes filled with anxiety.

"Hello, Auntie. Um, I... I’m Yan Li’s sister, Yan Xici."

’She knew it was stating the obvious.’

But other than introducing herself, she really had no idea what else to say.

Looking at the anxious girl before her,

Qiu Yuru smiled gently, her tone amiable. "I know. We’ve met before, remember?"

They hadn’t just met at Xiao Ran’s wedding; they had even shared a meal at the same table.

Even back then, she had thought the girl was exceptionally gentle, polite, and beautiful.

Then, during a New Year’s visit to Yan Li’s home one year, the girl had been bustling about, helping with everything. Qiu Yuru still had a vivid memory of how well-behaved and sensible she was.

And now, upon arriving today, she discovered the girl even knew how to cook.

Her impression of the young woman improved even more.

The anxious girl looked utterly at a loss. She swallowed, and it took her a moment to react.

She blurted out, "Auntie, you must be thirsty! I’ll get you a glass of water!"

With that, she hastily grabbed a clear glass from the dining table, picked up the water pitcher, and started to pour.

As she watched her bustle about, Qiu Yuru quickly intervened. "Oh, oh, please don’t go to any trouble. I’m fine."

Anxious as she was, the polite girl would never be discourteous.

Suppressing her anxiety, she offered the glass to Qiu Yuru with a sweet smile. "Please, have a seat and drink some water, Auntie. Brother Xiao Ran should be back shortly."

She then led Qiu Yuru toward the living room.

She placed the glass on the coffee table before speaking again, cautiously. "Auntie, please, have a seat."

Following behind, Qiu Yuru chuckled, "You’re going to so much trouble for me."

’To be honest, I thought Xiao Ran would be the one taking care of her. But from the looks of it today, she’s clearly the one taking care of my son.’

’He’s not even home from work, and she’s already started on dinner. And it smells delicious.’

’Looks like they’ve got a nice little life going on!’

Hearing this, the girl looked guilty. "It’s no trouble, really, none at all. It’s the least I can do. If Brother Xiao Ran hadn’t taken pity on me and let me stay here, I’d be stuck sharing a bed with my best friend right now."

She spoke with the utmost sincerity.

’When she’d first decided to stay, part of the reason was certainly because her heart ached for Xiao Ran.’

’But a small part of it was also that she truly had nowhere else to go.’

’She didn’t want to live with her sister, nor did she want to stay in the dorms.’

Qiu Yuru sat down on the white sofa and said with conviction, "Don’t you worry. You just stay here comfortably until you graduate. If he dares to say a single word against it, I’ll give him a piece of my mind for you!"

’As the old saying goes, a failed deal doesn’t mean a failed friendship. Yan Li was Yan Li, but Yan Xici was Yan Xici.’

’Besides, out of respect for her parents, I couldn’t just kick her out!’

Looking at the kind-faced Qiu Yuru across from her, the girl silently breathed a sigh of relief.

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a plastic bag sitting on the armchair next to her.

It was filled with things she had bought for Qiu Yuru just that afternoon, all piled into one bag. She hadn’t had a chance to put them away yet.

’I didn’t expect Auntie to arrive so soon.’

The girl picked up the bag, her voice gentle.

"This... these are some daily necessities I just bought for you. I thought you weren’t arriving until tomorrow, so I haven’t had a chance to put them away. I didn’t realize you’d be here now. Please, take a look. If there’s anything you don’t like, I can go exchange it."

’I haven’t even thrown away the receipt yet. If she doesn’t like something, an exchange should be possible, right?’

With that, the girl handed her the bag.

Hearing this, Qiu Yuru looked astonished.

She instinctively peered into the bag.

A towel, a cup, a toothbrush, bedsheets... even a pair of slippers.

She quickly reached out and took the bag.

"Thank you so much. No, no, no exchanges needed. These are wonderful."

’I came in such a hurry that I really hadn’t brought any of these things with me.’

’I can’t believe she bought all of this for me.’

’It was no exaggeration to say that even my former daughter-in-law had never been this thoughtful.’

In just a few short minutes, she had already mentally labeled the girl as "thoughtful" and "warm."

’Are these two sisters really from the same mother?’ she couldn’t help but wonder.

’Their personalities are just too different.’

Qiu Yuru felt a little embarrassed. "I came so suddenly this time that I didn’t bring anything for you... just some kimchi. I hope you don’t mind."

’She glanced at the kimchi she’d left on the dining table. The girl was being so warm and welcoming, yet I came completely unprepared.’

’As an elder, I’ve been so thoughtless!’

At this, the girl gave a sweet smile. "Auntie, please don’t say that. It’s the least I could do."

’As long as Auntie doesn’t think I’m doing a poor job, I’ll be happy.’

Then, Yan Xici walked over and took the slippers out of the plastic bag.

She snipped off the tag with a small pair of scissors and gently placed them at Qiu Yuru’s feet.

"The weather is so warm now. Slippers should be more comfortable."

’The weather was already hot, and Qiu Yuru was wearing leather shoes; her feet must be sweltering.’

The simple, kind-hearted girl just wanted the older woman to be more comfortable.

Gazing at the slippers by her feet, Qiu Yuru was taken aback for a second.

’Honestly, I’m surprised by such a thoughtful gesture.’

’After all, even my own son wouldn’t have thought to get me slippers.’

She quickly stood up. "I can get them, I can get them! Thank you so much!"

’And what’s more, the color of the slippers is lovely. They’re a little big, perhaps, but slippers are always more comfortable when they’re a bit loose.’

She couldn’t help but praise, "This color is so pretty."

Even though it was just a simple compliment, the girl’s heart swelled with delight.

’If Auntie likes them, then I can relax.’

Meanwhile, the fish in the pot had been simmering for several minutes.

The aroma grew richer, wafting from the kitchen into the living room.

Qiu Yuru sniffed the air and looked at Yan Xici curiously. "Oh, what are you making? It smells delicious."

At her words, the girl’s heart seized.

Her pretty eyes widened in a panic.

!!!!

’The fish!’

’Her fish!!!!’

’Thank goodness I can’t smell anything burning!’

’Otherwise, I would have completely ruined dinner!’

The girl spun around and rushed into the kitchen.

Her small, fair hand flew to the pot lid, lifting it to reveal the fish still steaming inside.

The sauce had nearly evaporated, but thankfully, nothing had burned.

The girl hurriedly turned on the water filter’s tap, filled a bowl, and carefully poured it into the pot. Only then did her frantic heart finally settle.

’Thank goodness my fish is okay.’

’Auntie definitely hasn’t eaten dinner yet, and we’re all supposed to eat together soon.’

’If I had messed it up, it would have been mortifying!!!!’

As the fish was left to simmer, she glanced at her phone screen, which was still recording, and suddenly remembered—she was still filming!

She quickly grabbed her phone and jabbed her finger on the stop button.

’Good thing I wasn’t live-streaming. Otherwise, this would have counted as a broadcast accident, wouldn’t it?’

Feeling relieved, she opened WeChat and sent a message to Xiao Ran.

Yan Xici: Brother, Auntie’s here.
