Journey to Become the Zenith
Chapter 432: The Sword That Slays Gods
The Sword That Slays Gods
The soul before her, meanwhile, looked as though it couldn’t even threaten an ordinary soldier.
Evelyne waited.
Nothing happened.
The man merely stood there.
Then, after several seconds, he finally seemed to notice her.
His head turned slightly.
Those ordinary eyes settled on Evelyne.
There was no hostility in them.
No fear.
No excitement.
Just quiet curiosity.
Evelyne’s smile weakened.
The man’s gaze moved over her from head to toe, as though he were examining an unfamiliar object.
He was scanning her.
Studying her.
Not with the wary expression of someone facing a powerful enemy, but with the detached curiosity of someone trying to understand something he had never seen before.
Evelyne’s brows twitched.
’What is he doing?’
She had expected him to attack.
She had expected arrogance.
Perhaps even desperation.
Instead, he simply looked at her.
The silence inside the cave became strangely uncomfortable.
The flickering remnants of the artifact’s white radiance reflected across the stone walls. Dust drifted lazily through the air. Somewhere behind them, a loose stone finally fell from the damaged ceiling and struck the ground with a dull crack.
Victor didn’t react.
Evelyne didn’t move either.
For the first time since activating the artifact, she wasn’t certain what she was looking at.
She had thought she understood her opponent.
Now she wasn’t so sure.
The man continued scanning her for another moment.
Then his head slowly tilted to the side, a faint crease appearing between his brows.
victor(?) then finally took notice of him and looked like he was scanning him. After a short look, victor(?) tilted his head confused.
"Why should I attack someone weak like you?" Victor(?) asked in a nonchalant manner.
His voice carried no hostility.
That was what made it worse.
There was no mockery in his tone, no deliberate attempt to provoke Evelyne. He sounded genuinely puzzled, as though the idea of attacking her was beneath consideration. His golden eyes remained calm, almost indifferent, while the faint light of the materialized souls shimmered around him.
Hearing those words, and seeing that utterly unconcerned expression, only served to make Evelyne angrier.
Her fingers tightened around the hilt of her sword.
A sharp pulse of blood rushed through her newly materialized body.
"You really don’t know how immense the heavens are! Fine, I will show you the difference between you and me!"
The words escaped through clenched teeth.
For someone who had once stood at the pinnacle of swordsmanship, being treated like an insignificant weakling was more painful than any wound.
Evelyne raised her hand.
The air inside the cave suddenly trembled.
One sword appeared.
Then another.
Then dozens.
Hundreds.
The sound of metal being forged from condensed Ki echoed through the cavern, each blade carrying a frightening sharpness. In the blink of an eye, a thousand blades floated behind Evelyne, filling the space like a dark metallic storm.
The cave suddenly seemed far too small to contain them.
At the same time, an immense quantity of Ki erupted from Evelyne’s body.
The ground cracked beneath her feet.
Dust lifted from the stone floor.
The walls groaned under the pressure.
If she released all of this power without restraint, the entire cave and the fortress above it would likely be blown apart.
But Evelyne no longer cared.
There was no one left here who mattered.
All of her men had already died, and her current family was in another location. Destroying this place meant nothing to her anymore.
Her eyes briefly shifted toward the woman standing farther behind the battlefield.
Diana remained there, watching silently.
Evelyne narrowed her eyes.
Still, one question lingered.
Would that woman interfere?
It didn’t matter.
If she made a move, Evelyne would kill her too.
Her gaze returned to Victor(?).
"Enough."
The word came quietly.
Then Evelyne moved.
She charged forward with a thousand blades following behind her.
The sheer pressure of her advance caused the air to howl.
The stone beneath her feet shattered as she accelerated, her sword held firmly in her hand while the countless floating blades moved with her like an army of executioners.
Victor(?) didn’t move.
He simply watched.
Two meters.
One meter.
Evelyne was almost upon him.
Then—
She stopped.
Not because she wanted to.
Not because she had hesitated.
Her body simply refused to move.
An invisible force had appeared between them.
Evelyne’s eyes widened.
"What...?"
Her sword remained suspended in front of her.
Her legs wouldn’t advance.
Her shoulders wouldn’t shift.
Even her fingers refused to move.
She tried to force her body forward.
Nothing happened.
Not even a single finger moved.
A cold sensation crawled through her chest.
Impossible.
Evelyne immediately circulated all of her Ki.
The enormous energy inside her body surged outward, reinforcing her muscles, bones, soul, and every inch of her manifested form.
The pressure inside the cave increased dramatically.
Yet the result remained the same.
Nothing.
Her body was completely frozen.
Evelyne’s expression gradually changed.
She had regained the power she once possessed.
She had summoned a thousand blades.
She had believed that the moment she used this trump card, the situation would completely reverse.
Yet now—
She couldn’t even take another step.
Her gaze shifted toward the thousand floating swords behind her.
Fine.
If she couldn’t move, then the swords could.
Evelyne’s will immediately connected with every blade.
"Move!"
The thousand swords trembled.
Then stopped.
Every single one remained frozen in place.
Evelyne’s breathing became heavier.
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
