The Incarnation Who Chose His Family

While the other incarnations were having fun with their new opponent, the incarnation that summoned said opponent sat someplace far away.

He watched from a quiet corner of the soul realm, sitting with one knee raised while resting his arm casually upon it.

In the distance, chaos had already erupted.

The other incarnations were having the time of their lives beating a final boss monster from a game.

The scene was almost ridiculous.

One incarnation had already charged forward without giving Jack Frost enough time to finish introducing himself. Another was shouting that it was his turn. Several others were arguing over who had attacked first, while a few more simply stood nearby, laughing at the spectacle.

For beings who had existed for an incomprehensible amount of time, they certainly knew how to entertain themselves.

The incarnation sitting away from them smiled faintly.

But unlike the others, he wasn’t watching the battle anymore.

His gaze slowly drifted beyond the commotion.

For some reason, the sight of the others having fun had awakened a memory he hadn’t thought about for a very long time.

A memory from a world that no longer existed for him.

A memory of a much simpler life.

He remembered when he had played that game in his house.

Back then, there had been nothing extraordinary about his life.

No cultivation.

No demons.

No gods.

No other worlds.

No battles where the survival of entire civilizations rested upon his shoulders.

Just a house.

A television.

A game controller in his hands.

His father sitting nearby with a book opened in front of him, occasionally turning a page without paying much attention to the sounds coming from the television.

His mother was in the kitchen, cooking.

The familiar smell of food had drifted through the house while the sound of pots and pans occasionally reached his ears.

And his little sister...

She had been an absolute nuisance.

She would constantly bother him whenever he played.

Sometimes she would stand directly in front of the television.

Sometimes she would ask questions at the most important moments.

Sometimes she would simply sit beside him and demand that he let her play.

At the time, he had found it annoying.

He had complained.

He had told her to leave him alone.

He had wished for a little peace whenever she interrupted an important part of the game.

Now, however, those interruptions were among the memories he treasured most.

His eyes lowered.

It had been a few hundred thousand years since he had last seen them.

A few hundred thousand years.

The number itself felt absurd.

He could still remember his family’s faces as clearly as if he had seen them yesterday.

Yet so much time had passed that the people he remembered might as well have become fragments of a forgotten age.

Around this time of year, his whole family would have been enjoying putting up lights and playing some party games.

He could almost hear his sister laughing.

He could almost smell his mother’s cooking.

He could almost hear the quiet rustling of his father’s book as he turned another page.

For a moment, the soul realm seemed strangely quiet.

The battle happening in the distance became nothing more than a faint noise.

’Why am I remembering this now?’

The incarnation slowly closed his eyes.

His name had once been Niva.

Before becoming an incarnation, he had lived on a world called Earth.

He had been an ordinary human.

At least, that was how his story had begun.

One day, however, everything changed.

He had been summoned to another world.

At first, the situation had seemed like the kind of fantasy story he had watched in countless anime.

A normal person being transported to another world.

Magic.

Monsters.

Adventures.

Perhaps even becoming some legendary hero.

It sounded exciting.

Until he discovered the truth.

He hadn’t been summoned as a hero.

He had been summoned as a sacrifice to a devil.

The fantasy he had imagined shattered almost immediately.

There was no glorious beginning.

No beautiful goddess welcoming him.

No legendary weapon placed into his hands.

No cheerful companions waiting for him.

There was only fear.

Pain.

Blood.

And people who intended to offer his life to something far more terrifying than anything he had imagined.

Yet Niva survived.

Through a series of twists and turns, he managed to deceive his captors.

He waited.

He observed.

He learned.

And eventually, he turned the tables on them.

He killed the very people who had intended to sacrifice him.

When he finally escaped, he thought the worst part of his journey was over.

He was wrong.

The world he had been transported to was nothing like the cheerful other-world stories he had watched on Earth.

There were no convenient rules.

No guarantee that good people would be rewarded.

No guarantee that villains would receive punishment.

The world was cruel.

And Niva had to adapt quickly.

At the beginning of his journey, it was hell.

Every day brought another threat.

Every mistake could mean death.

He learned how to survive because there was no other choice.

He became stronger because weakness meant suffering.

He fought monsters.

He fought humans.

He endured betrayal.

He experienced losses that left scars far deeper than anything visible on his body.

There were nights when he wondered whether returning home was even possible.

There were moments when he nearly gave up.

But he continued.

Not because he wanted glory.

Not because he wanted to become some legendary hero.

He simply wanted to go home.

He wanted to see his family again.

That desire became the thread connecting every step of his journey.

No matter how terrible the world became, he held onto that one thought.

One day, he would return.

And eventually...

He did.

After three long years, Niva finally found a way back to Earth.

The moment he stepped into his original world, the emotions he had suppressed for so long nearly overwhelmed him.

Home.
