Chapter 113: Chapter 113: King of Ten Thousand Beasts, Yan Jiuxuan
Chu Fan and Yun Xi stood on the giant eagle’s back, soaring over thousands of mountains and rivers. Its speed was at least ten times faster than Chu Fan’s own at full sprint.
The journey from Shuoyue Capital City to Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain spanned thousands upon thousands of miles, yet it only took them a few hours to arrive.
And they flew straight into the heart of Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain.
Lingyun Peak on Yunmeng Mountain had once seemed like a place of unparalleled beauty, but the location where Ying Di brought them, deep within Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain, was a true paradise on earth.
The Spiritual Qi here alone was several times denser than on Lingyun Peak. Just breathing the air was enough to make one feel refreshed and clear-minded, filling one’s very soul with joy.
And the scenery was breathtakingly beautiful.
Strange mountains and precipitous cliffs looked as if they were carved by divine hands. The lush grass and trees seemed to have been trimmed by a Celestial God. Amidst the overlapping layers of green, red flowers and green grass stood out in distinct, vibrant layers.
The water wound around the mountains, their reflections lending it an exquisite beauty.
The Ten Thousand Beasts lived in harmony. The chirping of insects was like the music of stringed and bamboo instruments, the roars of beasts like the beating of bells and drums.
After they landed, Ying Di, who had transformed into his human form, pointed to a distant pink valley. "My King will receive you in the Peach Grove. Due to the difference in our statuses, I can only escort you this far."
"Thank you for your trouble!" Chu Fan cupped his hands in a salute, then took Yun Xi’s hand and walked toward the pink valley.
As they drew closer, they saw that the sea of pink was actually a grove of blossoming peach trees.
It looked to cover thousands of acres.
Many Profound Beasts were frolicking and chasing each other within the Peach Grove.
When they saw Chu Fan and Yun Xi, they showed no fear or defensiveness, simply moving aside to let them pass while giving them a few curious glances.
"Chu Fan, this place is so beautiful!" Yun Xi exclaimed, unable to contain her awe.
"One day, we’ll find a place of our own, and I’ll plant a Peach Grove for you too. No, not just a Peach Grove, but seas of other flowers as well."
"No," Yun Xi said. "There are too many beautiful things in this world. To even glimpse them is a great blessing. If you fall in love with every place you see and try to claim it for your own, that would be too greedy. When we finally have time to rest, I’ll be perfectly happy if you just take me to see all sorts of different scenery."
"Alright, whatever you wish." What Chu Fan loved most about Yun Xi was this side of her, never grasping or competing for anything. She could be a little mischievous, but only with those she was closest to; most of the time, she was gentle and graceful.
The King of Ten Thousand Beasts’s Cultivation was simply unfathomable. Chu Fan guessed she was at least in the Tribulation Crossing Realm.
’We all left at the same time, and Ying Di’s speed was already incredible, wasn’t it?’
’Yet the King of Ten Thousand Beasts had clearly returned to Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain long ago, and had even prepared snacks and flower wine for him and Yun Xi.’
Deep within the Peach Grove stood several bamboo houses. They were built in the shape of a ’U’. Judging by the color of the bamboo, the houses had likely been standing for a very, very long time.
In front of the houses were several tables and chairs woven from bamboo.
On the three bamboo tables were several plates of pastries, several plates of fruit, and a pot of flower wine whose fragrant aroma could be smelled from afar.
"Please, sit," the King of Ten Thousand Beasts said, gesturing warmly.
"Besides those of our lineage, you are the first of the Human Race to come here in over ten thousand years," the King of Ten Thousand Beasts said.
"We are honored," Chu Fan said.
As they drank the flower wine and sampled the unique pastries and fruit, they began to chat more comfortably.
Chu Fan found an opportune moment and asked tentatively, "In the stone hall on Zao Ying Mountain, I saw that the King of Ten Thousand Beasts of that generation seemed to have achieved Ascension to Immortality. And Elder Ye is the last recorded human to have done so. I was wondering, did every King of Ten Thousand Beasts before you ascend? And will you also ascend after you complete your three-hundred-year mission?"
"That concerns the secrets of my lineage. Please forgive me, but I cannot give you the details."
"I was being presumptuous."
"I know Ancestor Master Ye left the Scroll inside his Divine Statue on Zao Ying Mountain to find a fated person for a reason. Perhaps after you complete the mission on the Scroll, you will know far more than I do. Besides, with your current abilities, knowing too much is not necessarily a good thing."
’Xiezhi said it, and now the King of Ten Thousand Beasts is saying it too.’
’Is it my fault that my abilities aren’t good enough? I’m only twenty-four!’
’When I’m over a hundred, you might not even be stronger than me!’
’In truth, the more your abilities grow, the more you realize your own insignificance and ignorance.’
Many times, Chu Fan had to stop himself from overthinking. Many things were, upon closer inspection, terrifying to contemplate.
For instance, the grand scheme of Xiezhi and the Immortal who left the Scroll.
They were so powerful, so why were they left behind in this world? Why did one die and the other end up injured?
According to the King of Ten Thousand Beasts, the Immortal who left the Scroll had been in this world for over ten thousand years, yet after all that time, his injuries still hadn’t healed.
What exactly did they experience over ten thousand years ago?
And having obtained the treasures left by those two Immortals through a stroke of fate, would he one day, after fulfilling the requirements of their scheme, have to confront that secret history?
Would he even have to repeat their mistakes and face a crisis so powerful it was beyond imagination?
That was why Chu Fan didn’t dare to think too deeply about it. Otherwise, it would surely affect his heart for seeking the Dao.
"Little Sister Yun, I felt an instant connection with you. I happen to have a little something here for you to play with." Perhaps not wanting to dwell on the matters of her lineage, the King of Ten Thousand Beasts changed the subject and took out a small Cloth Pouch from her robes.
"Elder, I cannot accept a reward without having earned it."
"Hehe, in a couple of days, he will be venturing into the Divine Race ruins, and you certainly won’t be able to go. Just consider this a reward for keeping me company for a while! It’s been over a hundred years since I’ve had any contact with the Human Race, yet I felt an instant kinship with you. If you don’t mind, you can think of me as your older sister."
Yun Xi was moved by the offer, but her worldly experience was ultimately no match for Chu Fan’s, so she glanced at him.
Chu Fan laughed. "That would be wonderful! From now on, wouldn’t I be the King of Ten Thousand Beasts’s brother-in-law? I’d be able to come and go from Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain as I please."
Hearing this, the King of Ten Thousand Beasts gave a charming smile and said, "By helping Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain this time, you are already a friend to our Profound Beast race. Naturally, you are not bound by the rules when entering or leaving Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain."
In reality, Chu Fan didn’t know that this was all part of the King of Ten Thousand Beasts’s deliberate plan to befriend them.
He was the fated person who had obtained the Ancestor Master’s legacy Scroll, a scroll that had waited nearly ten thousand years to appear. As she understood it, Chu Fan was likely the chosen one.
Although he was still very weak now, who knew what accomplishments he would achieve in the near future?
It was better to form a bond and be wrong than to miss the opportunity. No matter what the future held, he was worth befriending. Even if he ended up dying prematurely, Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain wouldn’t lose anything, would it?
After all, neither Chu Fan nor Yun Xi were bad people. Based on her observations over the past few months, they both possessed chivalrous hearts.
Therefore, they held no ill will toward the Profound Beast race. What was the harm in letting them come and go from Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain as they pleased?
Hearing the words of Chu Fan and the King of Ten Thousand Beasts, Yun Xi gratefully accepted the Cloth Pouch and called out "Sister" with some apprehension.
"Open it and take a look," said the King of Ten Thousand Beasts.
Yun Xi opened the Cloth Pouch and saw a thumb-sized bead inside. It shimmered with a seven-colored mist and seemed to glow with a flowing, brilliant light.
"It’s called an Exorcism Pearl. Keep it on your person, and you will be immune to mental manipulation. It can also nourish your spirit."
"This... this is too valuable!" Chu Fan said in shock.
"It’s not every day I take on a new little sister. What’s wrong with giving her a small gift? Not everything needs to be measured by its value."
"Yun Xi thanks you, Sister King of Ten Thousand Beasts."
"Sister King of Ten Thousand Beasts? That sounds strange. In our lineage, all those trained to become the King of Ten Thousand Beasts are given the surname Yan. I am the ninth-generation King of Ten Thousand Beasts, so I am number nine. My master used to call me Jiuxuan. You can call me Sister Yan, Ninth Sister, Sister Xuan, or Sister Jiuxuan. Whatever you prefer."
