Chapter 122: Yao Zhi’s True Nature
Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Yao Zhi’s True Nature
Chu Fan, of course, heard their conversation crystal clear. It wasn’t just their loud discussion—he had also heard every single word Shen Yidu whispered to his three companions.
Chu Fan hadn’t initially distinguished between the two groups as good or bad.
But since Shen Yidu and his two companions had actually wanted to kill him, Chu Fan naturally held no goodwill toward them.
And when they ran into Yao Zhi’s group, Shen Yidu and his men had tried to use him. It would be a wonder if Chu Fan wasn’t furious.
’The enemy of my enemy is my friend?’
Chu Fan wasn’t one to jump to such conclusions. After all, he could tell from their conversation that while the two groups were at odds, they hadn’t reached a point of life-or-death struggle.
Moreover, it was clear they had known each other for a long time and came from the same place.
’Extreme Dao Sect, Heaven-Facing Sect... I’ve never heard of them.’
’So if push came to shove, I would become their common enemy instead.’
’And judging by Yao Zhi’s words and actions, not only is he arrogant, but while he has some brains, he’s no saint.’
Both groups were clearly spoiled scions, coddled by their families and Sects. To reach the Nascent Soul Realm by twenty-two or twenty-three was the mark of an extraordinary prodigy, even among the Major Sects of the Central Domain.
After all, Yan Ying, a Direct Disciple of the Celestial Dao Palace’s Palace Master, had only stepped into the Nascent Soul Realm at twenty-one, and that was only after drinking the Hundred Flowers Wanderer’s Hundred Flowers Wine.
So, it was no surprise that young prodigies like Yao Zhi and Shen Yidu were a bit arrogant.
Chu Fan didn’t brand them as irredeemably evil, though. Shen Yidu’s group wanting to kill him wasn’t entirely unrelated to how he had messed with them earlier. So, while Chu Fan was angry, he had no intention of killing them.
At most, he would teach them a lesson and kick them out of the Secret Realm.
Now, he wanted to see what this Yao Zhi would do.
Yao Zhi walked up to Chu Fan, cupped his hands in a salute, and said, "I am the Saint Heir of the Heaven-Facing Sect. I wonder, do you require our assistance?"
Hearing Yao Zhi’s words, Chu Fan made a judgment. ’This person isn’t just smart; he’s also quite cautious.’
’And a Saint Heir, no less.’
’But where is this Heaven-Facing Sect from? And what tier of Sect is it?’
When Yao Zhi saw that Chu Fan remained silent, his expression utterly unchanged, he couldn’t help but frown.
"Chen Min!" Yao Zhi beckoned to the large young man behind him. "Come lend a hand. Some kind of power may have drained his consciousness. If we get him out of here, he might be able to wake up, free from its interference."
Yao Zhi’s words carried significant weight with the group. The large young man hurried over, and the two of them each took one of Chu Fan’s arms, preparing to carry him away.
Chu Fan didn’t move, simply allowing them to lift him.
Yao Zhi frowned but said nothing. He and Chen Min carried Chu Fan, one on each side, with the other five following behind them.
They walked out of the enormous square and into an area of ruins, where they laid Chu Fan flat on a large boulder.
Yao Zhi reached out to take Chu Fan’s pulse. When he couldn’t feel a single beat, his frown deepened.
"This makes no sense," Yao Zhi muttered to himself. "There’s clearly life force flowing through his body, so why isn’t he breathing? Why is there no pulse?"
"Brother Yao, why are we bothering with this guy? Maybe he’s one of those legendary living dead!"
"You don’t understand," Yao Zhi explained. "First, look at his clothes, then look at your own. For him to appear here with his clothes so clean and neat, there are only two possibilities. One, he’s been here for a very, very long time. Two, his Cultivation is strong enough to completely resist the Power of Heaven and Earth from the Teleportation Array. Whichever it is, if we can wake him, it will be greatly to our benefit."
Hearing his explanation, the others looked at him with admiration.
However, the other woman in the group offered her own theory. "Could there be another possibility? What if he has something like a Storage Ring and just changed his clothes after he arrived?"
"You’re all considered the most doted-on prodigies in your respective families and Sects, right?" Yao Zhi asked. "But do any of you have a Storage Ring?"
They all shook their heads.
"Exactly. So even if your theory is possible, this person’s status must be extraordinary. But think about it. Among the Major Sects of the Central Domain—aside from Yan Ying, the Direct Disciple of the Celestial Dao Palace’s Palace Master, whom we’ve never met, and the Reincarnated Living Buddha of Bodhi Hall, whose identity is unknown—is there any prodigy of our age and Cultivation that we don’t know? Have any of you ever seen him before?" Yao Zhi asked again.
The six of them shook their heads again.
Hearing this, Chu Fan was inwardly shocked. ’So they’re all from the Central Domain. And they’ve heard of Yan Ying, but have never met her.’
’It seems Yan Ying’s reputation in the Central Domain is quite something!’
Chu Fan’s opinion of Yao Zhi rose. ’I didn’t expect him to be such a meticulous thinker.’
"Shen Yidu is injured, which means he must have attacked this man," Yao Zhi continued. "So, this man must have a protective Magical Treasure that automatically defended its master and wounded Shen Yidu. And that idiot actually tried to deceive me. Heh."
"Mo Fan, hand over that Soul Summoning Pill you have," Yao Zhi said to one of the young men.
"Brother Yao, I only have one Soul Cleansing Pill," the young man named Mo Fan said reluctantly. "It cost me two years of my allowance at an auction. You’re not really going to make me use the Soul Cleansing Pill on him, are you?"
"Don’t worry," Yao Zhi said. "When we get back, I’ll find a way to get you another one. If I can’t, I’ll compensate you with an Elixir of equivalent value."
Mo Fan grudgingly fished an Elixir out from within his robes.
Yao Zhi took the Elixir, squatted down, and pried open Chu Fan’s mouth. "Let’s hope you’re lucky enough that this Elixir can wake you," he said.
With that, he stuffed it directly into Chu Fan’s mouth.
All seven of them watched Chu Fan in anticipation.
At that moment, Chu Fan felt a flicker of goodwill toward them, even though their motives weren’t entirely pure.
Once in his mouth, the Elixir quickly dissolved and transformed into a current of azure energy that flowed down his throat and spread throughout his organs.
Chu Fan felt his soul suffuse with a deep comfort, like soaking in a warm bath in the dead of winter.
He felt his Spiritual Power become exceptionally clear, proving that the Elixir was truly beneficial to the soul.
That flicker of goodwill he felt for them grew a little stronger.
’I’ll ’wake up’ and see what they do next,’ he decided.
He put on an act of someone just waking from a deep coma. First, his fingers twitched slightly. Then, he began to breathe.
To his surprise, the woman named Luo Qingling cheered, "Brother Yao, the Elixir really worked! Is he waking up?"
Then, Chu Fan’s eyes stirred beneath his lids. He feigned a dazed and confused look as he asked, "Who are you? Where am I?"
"Friend," Yao Zhi began, "we are disciples of the Cultivation Sects from the Central Domain. When we were passing through that square, you looked as if your very soul had been seized, so we brought you here. We fed you a Soul Summoning Pill, and you’ve finally woken up."
Clearly, Yao Zhi was not the type to perform a good deed without taking credit for it.
