Chapter 187: Chapter 187: The Past Should Finally Be Settled

It wasn’t just Yu Zongding; Ji Chengding also breathed a sigh of relief.

But many who didn’t understand the situation were filled with curiosity. ’He’s just Chu Fan, a former disciple cast out from the Lingyun Sect. What gives him the right to make the Sect Leader and Elders so afraid?’

Many of the disciples below even started whispering amongst themselves.

Many felt Chu Fan was being far too arrogant. ’Destroy the Lingyun Sect? He actually dares to say that.’

Had he forgotten how he had left Lingyun Peak more than three years ago?

How could their words possibly escape the reach of Chu Fan’s Spiritual Power? Still, why would he deign to bicker with a crowd of disciples?

After all, they were no longer on the same level.

"If I were to follow my heart, none of you are worthy of paying respects to my master and senior brothers’ remains. But they dedicated their entire lives to the Lingyun Sect, and I understand their devotion to it. Therefore, in three days, there will be a grand memorial service."

As Chu Fan spoke, he turned his gaze to Yu Zongding and Ji Chengding and asked, "Sect Leader Yu, Elder Ji, is that a problem? As for the wording of the eulogy, I expect you to consider it very carefully."

"Rest assured, they are heroes of our Lingyun Sect. We will certainly give them a magnificent burial."

"I don’t want a magnificent burial. I want every last person in the Lingyun Sect to remember their deeds. As for those five... in three days, their blood will serve as the offering to my master’s and senior brothers’ spirits in the heavens!" Chu Fan said, his gaze turning sharp.

Yu Zongding hurriedly agreed!

"Good. I hope you don’t disappoint me." Chu Fan nodded.

He then turned his gaze to Yun Keji and said, "Elder Yun, Steward Chen, shouldn’t you invite Yun Xi and me to your courtyard for a chat? We still have a score to settle!"

Upon hearing this, Yun Keji couldn’t help but be stunned, his heart filled with panic and confusion.

Even Yun Xi was in a fog, not knowing what Chu Fan meant.

Chu Fan walked over, patted Yun Xi’s shoulder, and said softly, "Don’t worry. You’ll understand in a moment."

Although Yun Keji was scared, he didn’t dare to resist. He and the Chen Clan led them towards their residence.

It wasn’t until long after Chu Fan and his group had left that Yu Zongding finally snapped out of it and began to assign tasks: setting up the memorial hall, discussing the arrangements for the grand service in three days, and other matters.

As for the Yun Keji couple, they were powerless to intervene.

After all, the Chu Fan of today was someone that even Yu Zongding, the Sect Leader, truly feared.

The entire Lingyun Sect sprang into a flurry of activity.

More than that, however, were the private discussions among the disciples.

By now, Chu Fan and Yun Xi had arrived at Yun Keji’s residence. Ji Bufan and the other two stood guard outside, allowing no one to approach.

"Chu Fan, the decision to marry Yun Xi to Shui Yuntian of the Celestial Derivation Sect was a resolution of the Sect. Although I am an Elder, I had no way to influence the Sect’s decision!"

As soon as they entered the door, Yun Keji started playing the victim.

Upon hearing this, Yun Xi’s face became as dark as the storm clouds before a summer downpour.

Chu Fan grasped her hand and gave her a look that told her to be patient.

However, Chu Fan didn’t respond to Yun Keji. Instead, he walked straight into the main hall. His silence placed immense pressure on the couple.

He first helped Yun Xi to the seat of honor, then moved a chair and sat down beside her.

The Yun Keji couple stood in the center of the hall, anxious and uneasy.

The scene immediately fell silent. After a long while, Chu Fan raised his eyes, looked at the Yun Keji couple, and said, "Keep making excuses. Why did you stop? I’d love to see if you two can talk a dead man back to life."

Upon hearing this, the Chen Clan immediately bristled, saying angrily, "Chu Fan, what do you mean by that? No matter what, we are Yun Xi’s parents! As a junior, you’re here ordering us around. What are you trying to do?"

"Heh!" Chu Fan let out a cold laugh, his gaze fixed on the Chen Clan, and said nothing.

The Chen Clan felt her skin crawl under his gaze.

But she still put on a brave front and scolded, "Don’t think you can be lawless just because you have some power now! We are Yun Xi’s parents! Even if we’ve had disagreements with Yun Xi, blood is still thicker than water!"

At this, Chu Fan began to clap.

This only made Yun Keji and the Chen Clan even more flustered.

Especially Yun Keji; he had personally witnessed how ruthless Chu Fan’s methods were, and how deep his schemes and cunning ran.

Finally, Chu Fan spoke. But when he did, his first words caught the couple completely off guard.

"Twenty-seven years ago... that old beggar died quite miserably, didn’t he?"

The Chen Clan instantly deflated like a popped balloon. But after a moment, she quickly recovered and denied it. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."

"You don’t know what I’m talking about? There’s an old saying: the only way to keep a secret is to not do it in the first place. You thought your actions were flawless, but does anything in this world truly leave no trace? To be honest, I’ve known you for twenty years, and I never imagined that you were such despicable beasts behind the scenes."

The Chen Clan was about to retort, but Yun Keji spoke first. "Chu Fan, what exactly do you know?"

"You knew full well Shui Yuntian’s reputation among the Six Sects and Eight Gates. You knew he was utter scum, a degenerate who’d tortured countless women to death. Yet you still pushed Yun Xi into that pit of fire. Do such heartless parents truly exist in this world? At the time, I even wondered if you were being forced. After Yun Xi and I survived in the Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain, I even thought about how I might one day mend the relationship between you and her, to clear up the misunderstandings!"

Hearing this, Yun Xi couldn’t help but tighten her grip on Chu Fan’s hand.

"But when I learned the real reason, I finally understood what a pair of beasts you are. Even though Yun Xi isn’t your biological child, shouldn’t you have developed some affection after all these years? Forget a daughter who has called you ’Father’ and ’Mother’ for over twenty years—even if you’d raised a cat or a dog for that long, you would have grown attached, wouldn’t you?"

When Yun Xi heard Chu Fan’s words, she shot to her feet, her gaze fixed on him in shocked disbelief.

Meanwhile, the bodies of Yun Keji and the Chen Clan began to tremble like chaff in the wind.

Even so, the Chen Clan still vehemently denied it. "You—you’re talking nonsense! Yun Xi is my own daughter, whom I carried for ten months!"

Chu Fan ignored her and continued, "I was wondering why the daughter you had always doted on was suddenly placed under house arrest after I was severely injured! The truth is, you just thought my master and senior brothers were all dead, and that I had become a cripple. If Yun Xi married me, you wouldn’t gain any benefit at all. Then Li Mosheng came along and tempted you, and you two hit it off immediately. After all, if Yun Xi became Shui Yuntian’s wife, no matter what happened to her, you at least would be in-laws with the current Sect Leader of the Celestial Derivation Sect. You’d be the esteemed father-in-law to its future Sect Leader. Your status would naturally soar."

"What a fine case of waiting for the highest bidder!" Chu Fan said, then smashed the nearby table to pieces with a single palm strike.

Yun Keji and the Chen Clan flinched in fright at the sudden action, their bodies trembling even more violently.

Yun Xi’s expression was even darker now. Her gaze toward Yun Keji and the Chen Clan was filled with disgust and hatred.

"Originally, out of consideration for the fact that you raised Yun Xi for over twenty years, I was going to spare your worthless lives if you just confessed. But it seems you’re not afraid of death at all! Are you tired of living?"

The moment Chu Fan’s words landed,

the couple dropped to their knees with a THUD.

"Don’t kill us! Please, don’t kill us! Yun Xi, we raised you, after all! Say something! Tell him not to kill us!" the Chen Clan pleaded incoherently, scared to the point of tears. ℴℴ𝘮

Yun Xi turned her head away, her face already streaked with tears.

"It’s not impossible for you to live. Clearly explain what happened the day you met that old beggar. Then, take out the token that was on Yun Xi at the time and return it to her. If you do that, I can spare your lives!"
