Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Setting Out Again, a Chance Encounter with a White Fox

The splitting headache raged for well over an hour.

The pain was simply indescribable.

When he opened his eyes again, two brilliant beams shot from them, blasting a pair of bottomless pits over a foot wide into the ground nearby.

"Chu Fan, what happened? You looked terrifying just now."

Yun Xi was referring to the way his face had been contorted in agony before he came to his senses.

"I had a minor breakthrough in my enlightenment," Chu Fan explained, turning to her. But the moment he looked at Yun Xi, his mind was flooded with countless pieces of information. He could see several faint lines of light on her body—one connecting to him, while the others, even fainter, stretched into the far distance.

"Yun Xi, your parents are still alive!" Chu Fan blurted out.

"This..." The words had barely left his lips before Chu Fan himself froze.

’Is this the Dao of Cause and Effect?’

’Have I already grasped the Dao of Cause and Effect?’

It wasn’t just the Dao of Cause and Effect; his Spiritual Power had even jumped two levels, now reaching Level 32.

Yun Xi had an even stronger reaction. She stared at Chu Fan, stunned, her breath catching in her throat.

"Are... are you serious?"

"Cause and Effect does not err. Those two faint lines of light represent your origin—aren’t they your parents?" Chu Fan said, gesturing behind Yun Xi.

Yun Xi turned to look. "What lines?"

"How could I be so foolish? This is the Cause and Effect I’ve just comprehended. Only I can see it!"

This was about more than just Yun Xi’s lineage now. Chu Fan couldn’t help but recall what Hui Ke had once told him. Back then, though he barely knew Chu Fan, Hui Ke had said that one of his parents was in the realm of the living and the other in the realm of the dead, and that both were enduring agonizing torment.

Chu Fan hadn’t taken it seriously at the time.

But now that he could see Yun Xi’s threads of Cause and Effect, he was certain that those who understood the Dao of Cause and Effect could truly see such things.

However, when he looked at himself, he saw no other lines besides the one connecting him to Yun Xi.

’The Little Monk,’ Chu Fan thought. ’The Little Monk is probably the key to finding out about my own lineage.’

"Chu Fan, are you saying my birth parents didn’t die in that valley? They’re still alive?"

"They’re alive. I’m sure of what I saw. Once your illness is cured, I’ll take you to find your parents."

But after receiving a definitive answer, Yun Xi fell silent, her expression conflicted.

"To search for one’s roots is to find a sense of belonging," Chu Fan comforted. "No matter why they left you, you should find out the reason. Perhaps they had no other choice, or perhaps they simply lost you by accident. It’s even possible they’ve been searching desperately for you all this time."

"Alright, I’ll listen to you," Yun Xi said, her face breaking into a smile.

Now that he had a new Skill, Chu Fan was eager to test it. He couldn’t understand why, despite the flood of information that had entered his Divine Sense before he awoke, he hadn’t gained new memories the way he did when he’d read the Ming Jue Jade.

He first summoned Han Chuanguang, and sure enough, he saw countless lines of light on him, some bright and others dim.

One of the lines also connected Han Chuanguang to him.

Chu Fan came to a conclusion: this man was loyal to him and was highly unlikely to betray him.

There were a few variables, but Chu Fan’s current mastery of the Dao was not yet profound enough to identify them.

Then, he had Han Chuanguang bring in a few attendants from the front courtyard.

He immediately saw that one man and woman would soon become a couple. Another male attendant had an exceptionally bright line of Cause and Effect pointing elsewhere, while the line connecting him to Han Chuanguang was dim.

’This person is a spy planted in the auction house.’

There was another woman whose lines to her parents were severed, and she also had a blood-red thread of hatred.

After dismissing them, Chu Fan sought confirmation from Han Chuanguang. Everything was verified, except for the man and woman who would one day be a couple.

"We’ve already been delayed here for several days. We must leave first thing tomorrow morning."

"Sir, was my service lacking in some way?" Han Chuanguang asked, alarmed and uneasy.

"No, no, don’t overthink it," Chu Fan explained. "We came to the Central Domain to find the Hundred Flowers Wanderer, and we can’t afford to waste any more time. We’ll come back and stay for a few more days on our return trip."

"Sir, is there anything I can prepare for you?"

"That would be good. Just prepare some food for us. Also, get a bedstead with heavy curtains and a few sets of new bedding," Chu Fan requested casually.

Han Chuanguang went off to handle the arrangements, overjoyed.

The next day, after storing the items Han Chuanguang had prepared in the Jun Tianjian World, Chu Fan took his leave with Yun Xi and departed.

The two of them walked out of Qingyun State City. Once they were a few miles out, Chu Fan put an arm around Yun Xi and leaped into the air.

With the food and the curtained bedstead Han Chuanguang had prepared, the two of them no longer had to time their travel to ensure they could stay at an inn in a town.

Avoiding towns certainly gave them much more freedom.

At nightfall, they would land. He would set up the bed for Yun Xi to rest while he prepared dinner.

After eating, he would chat with Yun Xi until she fell asleep, and then he would begin practicing his Spear Technique.

During their few days in Qingyun State, he had more or less mastered the Basic Thirteen Techniques of the spear.

On their first day after leaving Qingyun State, out in the wilderness, Chu Fan began practicing the Wandering Dragon Spiritual Awareness Spear Technique he had obtained from the Miracle.

Although this Spear Technique came from the Miracle, it was not as difficult to learn as the Zongyun Sword.

It was strange to think that even though Chu Fan’s Sword Dao had reached the Sword Intent Following Heart Realm, he still couldn’t master even the First Technique of the Zongyun Sword.

But with this Spear Technique’s First Technique, Chu Fan spent just over fifteen minutes not only grasping the basics but even reaching the Minor Success Realm.

Having reached the Minor Success Realm, he didn’t push for perfection but moved on to practicing the subsequent techniques.

Sure enough, the further he went, the more difficult it became. By the Fourth Technique, he was struggling to even grasp the basics.

He practiced all night until he was completely exhausted. ℯℯ𝑙.

Fortunately, the Miaolian Celestial Stabilization Technique could circulate True Qi on its own, without him needing to consciously guide it. On top of that, he had the Emperor’s Jade Pendant from the Hua Xu Empire, which his master had left him.

Otherwise, after practicing all night, where would he find the strength to travel the next day?

After a simple breakfast, they packed up and set off again, only to encounter something completely unexpected.

After stowing the bedstead in the Jun Tianjian World, Chu Fan draped the Great Cloak over Yun Xi and was just about to leap into the air.

Suddenly, a streak of white light shot like a lightning bolt into his arms.

If not for his formidable Spiritual Power allowing him to see what the white light was, he might have injured the little creature with a reflexive swing of his arm.

It was a White Fox, its fur pure white without a single blemish. A strip of cloth was tied around its left front paw.

The sight of the cloth strip and the way it was tied sent a jolt through Chu Fan’s heart.

’Isn’t this the little fox that was wounded by arrows on Dingfeng Slope?’

’It’s been almost four years. Why hasn’t it grown at all?’

’And how did this little thing get from Yunmeng Mountain to the Central Domain? This place is tens of thousands of miles from Yunmeng Mountain. How did it get here?’

After snuggling into Chu Fan’s embrace, the White Fox buried its head in his chest, trembling uncontrollably.

Chu Fan had only to extend his Divine Sense slightly to perceive a dozen or so people rushing toward their location.

"Wow, what a cute puppy!" Yun Xi exclaimed upon seeing the flawless white fox in Chu Fan’s arms.

"Silly, it’s not a dog. It’s a fox."

"Can I hold it?"

Chu Fan was reluctant. Yun Xi was frail, and he didn’t want any accidents. Even though he seemed to have met this little fox before, he didn’t know if its intentions were good or evil.

The moment Yun Xi reached out, the little fox burrowed deeper into Chu Fan’s chest, clearly refusing to be held by her.

"You little thing! So this is where you ran off to. You’ve really made this young master work to find you!"

The group of more than a dozen people drew near and surrounded Chu Fan and Yun Xi...
