Chapter 215: Chapter 215: The Real Reason for Taking on a Disciple

"Will it be dangerous there?" Yun Xi asked with concern.

"Dangerous? He’s in the Divine Separation Realm, and he has a Chaos Body, immune to all poisons. What danger could there be?" Shi Lun said, rolling his eyes.

"Alright. We agree to your three conditions," Chu Fan said without hesitation.

"What does the Eight-cornered Profound Ice Grass look like? And are there any special instructions for harvesting it?" Chu Fan asked.

Miao Guchun explained, "It’s the only type of grass growing by the Underground Cold Pool, so you’ll spot it immediately. When you harvest it, remember to dispel your Protective True Qi. You must use only your bare hands—no tools. If you want to preserve its medicinal properties completely, you have to carry it back in your mouth."

Chu Fan committed his words to memory, not suspecting a thing.

And so, Yun Xi formally accepted the four old masters as her teachers.

However, they didn’t send Chu Fan to retrieve the Eight-cornered Profound Ice Grass right away. Instead, they marked out a plot of land and instructed him to build a bamboo house for Yun Xi.

Since it was a place where his wife would be living for an extended period, Chu Fan naturally didn’t hesitate for a moment.

He settled in that very day. The next morning, he began felling bamboo in the mountains to build the house.

Yun Xi was too frail to be of any help, and the four old masters had no intention of lending a hand either. Starting from the second day, they began discussing how they would take turns instructing Yun Xi.

As a cultivator in the Divine Separation Realm, felling bamboo and constructing a house was hardly a challenge for him.

He may not have had any helpers, but he had his Sword Control Technique.

Using the Sword Control Technique to build a bamboo house... he was likely the first and last person in history to do so.

After a full half-month of work, he finally completed three bamboo houses.

In terms of both style and functionality, the bamboo houses Chu Fan had built were far superior to the other five.

As for daily necessities, his Juntian Mirror World contained everything they needed.

Beds, wardrobes, stools, tables, vanities, desks, chairs—he had them all. He didn’t even lack for pots, pans, or dishes.

While he spent the half-month building the bamboo houses, Chu Fan was also using the time to be cautious. He still didn’t fully trust the four old masters.

After spending half a month with them, however, he had gotten to know them better.

All four were like mischievous old children. Bickering seemed to be their only pleasure in life; not a single day went by without them arguing.

At times, their arguments were even more crass than a common fishwife’s tantrum.

As for their initial reluctance versus their later willingness to accept Yun Xi as a disciple, Chu Fan had a few theories after spending more time with them.

He, Chu Fan, possessed a Chaos Body and had already reached the Divine Separation Realm at only twenty-seven; his future accomplishments were bound to be even greater.

Yun Xi was his wife, and once he became powerful, he would surely be able to protect her.

Moreover, Yun Xi herself was a rare prodigy, having reached the Nascent Soul Realm at twenty-six. She was exceptionally intelligent, not to mention breathtakingly beautiful.

As they say, beauty is its own justification.

Besides, the four old masters had lived in seclusion here for over a century. Deep down, they surely didn’t want their lifetime of medical knowledge to be buried with them.

Having someone to carry on their legacy would be a good thing.

So they must feel that by passing their skills to Yun Xi, they could ensure their legacy lives on.

There might have been other reasons, but these were all Chu Fan could deduce.

As for any ulterior motives, after spending time with them, Chu Fan felt that the old masters didn’t seem to harbor any ill will.

’If they truly meant harm, I wouldn’t be able to stop them even if I used every trump card I have.’

That night, Chu Fan and Yun Xi embraced on the steps of their bamboo house. They listened to the wind rustling through the Bamboo Sea like waves, sharing their most intimate thoughts.

Tomorrow, Chu Fan was to set out to pick the Eight-cornered Profound Ice Grass. According to his agreement with the four masters, he would have to leave as soon as he delivered it.

The four masters had also openly shared their treatment plan for Yun Xi with him.

Dugu Ling would cultivate a special Gu Insect and place it inside Yun Xi’s body. During the treatment, this Gu Insect would act as a substitute for Yun Xi’s Nascent Soul, drawing the Death Qi to itself.

Shi Lun would refine three elixirs: one for Strengthening the Foundation and Nourishing the Essence, one to put her Nascent Soul into a state of suspended animation, and a final one to restore her vitality after the Death Qi was purged.

As an added precaution, Miao Guchun would prepare several vats of medicinal baths using various herbs. Soaking her in these baths during the procedure would increase the chances of success while minimizing the harm to her body.

As for Liu Yizhen, her role in the treatment would be the most critical. She would have to release the Death Qi at the perfect moment, guide it into the Gu Insect, and then expel the insect from Yun Xi’s body.

The process sounded simple enough when explained, but hearing it made Chu Fan’s blood run cold.

Chu Fan knew better than anyone just how formidable the Death Qi from the Juntian Mirror was.

He didn’t doubt for a second Shi Lun’s claim that it would cost them ten years of their cultivation.

"Chu Fan, when I’m not with you, you have to be careful. You need to rein in your temper sometimes. What we’ve seen of this world is just the tip of the iceberg. If we’d never come to the Central Domain, we would never have known that our own Eastern Domain has three Earth Immortals."

"You silly girl, do I seem like a reckless person to you?" Chu Fan said with a smile, though his heart ached at the thought of leaving her.

"Those four old masters are the real deal. If you manage to learn everything they have to teach, by the time you reemerge, I’ll probably have to address you respectfully as Divine Doctor Yun."

"Hmph, don’t say that about me, and especially not about my four masters," Yun Xi said, glaring at Chu Fan in feigned anger.

"You’re too earnest sometimes," Chu Fan added. "If those old masters make you unhappy, just scold them like children."

"You’re talking nonsense again. They’re my masters! It’s the master’s place to reprimand the disciple, not the other way around."

The two continued their conversation, reluctant to let the moment end.

The White Fox, curled up at their feet, had long since fallen asleep.

While they were talking, the four elders were gathered in another bamboo house not far away.

Their usual childlike demeanor was gone, replaced by solemn expressions.

"Is everything arranged in the Cold Pool?" Dugu Ling asked Miao Guchun.

"Relax. Have I ever given you a reason to doubt my work?"

"Old Hour, can that kid really save Lady Leng?" Liu Yizhen asked.

"You all know this already. The boy not only has a Chaos Body, but also an Innate Divine Bone. For some reason, however, the Divine Bone is sealed, and that seal won’t break until he’s Crossing the Celestial Tribulation. That boy’s background must be extraordinary. Lady Leng is currently just a Half-Saint. If she possessed a Sacred Body, the two of them could ascend to godhood instantly. It’s a real shame," Shi Lun sighed.

"Are we really going to let that boy have it so easy?" Dugu Ling asked, still hesitant.

Miao Guchun said, "This was your idea to begin with. In any case, let’s just treat it as a long shot. Otherwise, if *that person* returns one day and finds we failed to take care of Lady Leng, we’ll be in a difficult position to explain ourselves."

"Won’t Lady Leng despise us for this?" Liu Yizhen said.

"Heh heh. Hate us? She might even thank us!" Shi Lun chuckled mischievously.

Miao Guchun chimed in with a laugh, "Alright, alright, stop with the fake piety. I bet you’re all just looking forward to the day Yun Girl and Lady Leng have it out. Heh heh, to be honest, this old man wants to see that too. I wonder how the boy will handle that Chaotic Scene."

"Yun Girl has such a gentle nature; she’ll probably be at a disadvantage. That won’t do. In addition to medicine, I’ll have to pass on my other specialty to her as well," Liu Yizhen said.

Miao Guchun flinched slightly and said in a fawning tone, "The girl also has an Exquisite Jade Body, a rarity seen only once every few hundred thousand years. Once she survives this ordeal, she’ll be able to learn anything in a flash."
