Chapter 2258 - 2243: Sudden Underground Mutation

Chapter 2258: Chapter 2243: Sudden Underground Mutation

On the ramparts of Laiyang Fortress, Marshal Zhou Cen of the Black Armored Army led over three hundred remaining trusted aides, madly charging and sweeping across the ramparts!

With each charge and sweep, these iron-blooded men, eyes blood-red and emanating beastial aura, unleashed a sinister beast-like roar!

Around them, the corpses of the Demon Clan army piled up like mountains!

Surrounded by at least fifty thousand Demon Clan soldiers, yet under Zhou Cen’s leading charge and sweep, none dared to advance actively and only defended passively!

Witnessing this scene, Tang Zhun, the Prophet Brave General of the reinforcing Black Armored Army, felt his eyes well up with tears.

"Kill!"

With a furious roar, the hundred thousand reinforcements began to advance slowly according to military formation.

At this time, twenty thousand Demon Clan soldiers were still attacking the fortress.

However, the Demon Clan army, having attacked for half a day, were exhausted and demoralized, further intimidated by Zhou Cen and his men who had taken two Beast Soul Pills.

With the reinforcements’ arrival, battle intent skyrocketed.

Not long after engagement, signs of defeat appeared!

Seeing this, the commanding Marshal of the Demon Clan knew he couldn’t persist anymore; continuing would only lead to greater failure!

What a tragedy!

What a lament!

Such a perfect opportunity, yet unsuccessful!

Before retreating, the Demon Clan’s commanding Marshal glanced at Zhou Cen, the Black Armored Army Marshal, who was still charging back and forth like a mad tiger.

This is a man worth admiring!

If not for this man and his three thousand elite soldiers, Laiyang Fortress would not have stood until now.

He could see that this man used every ounce of his strength, succeeding in defending the city, but at an unimaginable cost.

Besides admiration, there was fear!

This is the Human Clan!

A terrifying people who would sacrifice everything for a belief!

As the retreating Demon Clan army left behind their dead like a tide, Zhou Cen and his trusted aides continued to patrol and charge on the ramparts.

They constantly emitted beast-like growls, and anyone who entered their range, including themselves, was mercilessly attacked.

Many were already missing limbs, blood still flowing, yet the fighting didn’t stop.

Watching this, Vanguard General Tang Zhun’s eyes filled with tears as he roared angrily, "Priest!"

"Military Priest!"

"Calming, Silent Spirit, Soul Calming!"

"Use any techniques to restore them immediately!"

This order made a leading priest step forward, "General Tang, they have taken Beast Soul Pills not only for three hours but also two pills at once!

There’s no saving them; no Secret Technique can....."

"Who says there’s no saving them! Quickly use the Secret Technique!" In a flash, Tang Zhun held his blade to the priest’s neck, "Talk more, and I’ll chop you now!"

With fear of Tang Zhun’s near-mad gaze, the priest leader nodded slowly, "Well, let’s... try!"

Moments later, various calming, silent spirit, soul calming Secret Techniques flew from the marching priests’ hands, raining upon Zhou Cen and his men.

However, these techniques didn’t bring any clarity to Zhou Cen and his men’s eyes, not even a little.

"General Tang, look, there’s no effect...."

"Quick, continue! Keep going, who told you to stop!" At this moment, Tang Zhun appeared on the verge of madness.

Helplessly, the priest leaders continued to execute varying calming, silent spirit, soul calming techniques.

The Secret Techniques rained down, causing many trusted aides to collapse on the spot, instantly losing all breath.

Those collapsed didn’t survive; they had exhausted their potential, burned out, and died instantly!

Suddenly, a dot of green light entered Marshal Zhou Cen’s body, making his gaze clearer for a moment.

"Tang... Zhun?"

Hearing this voice, Tang Zhun rejoiced, "Marshal, have you regained clarity?"

"What is this?" Zhou Cen looked around sluggishly, "Still at Laiyang Fortress?"

"Did we hold it?"

"Laiyang Fortress... not lost?"

Tang Zhun rushed to support Zhou Cen, tears streaming, "Marshal, we held it, didn’t lose it, Laiyang Fortress isn’t lost!"

Zhou Cen paused, a comforting smile suddenly appearing on his face, "Report to the Southern Region Governor’s Office, say Chengling Fortress defense line hasn’t failed, request redeployment!"

"Yes, yes!" Tang Zhun nodded fervently.

"Also, tell my father his son didn’t disgrace him, didn’t lose the city! Tell my son his father is a real...man!"

As the last word left Zhou Cen’s mouth, his recently regained clarity was enveloped by blood again.

However, as his eyes were covered once more by blood, explosive noises sounded within Zhou Cen’s body.

In the last moment of clarity, Zhou Cen severed his own meridians!

Suicide!

This saved his last piece of dignity!

He didn’t want to become an unintelligent beast!

Tang Zhun naturally understood what happened.

Tears surged in his eyes as he gently placed Marshal Zhou Cen’s body on the ground, then solemnly performed a kneeling military salute!

"Soldiers, join me in bidding farewell to the Marshal and our brothers!"

In the next moment, the reinforcing Black Armored Army soldiers knelt in solid black.

In solemnity, Tang Zhun’s orders rang out, "According to Marshal’s last words, send documents to the Southern War Zone Governor’s Office!

Also, capture and record the scene and report all circumstances to the Southern War Zone Governor’s Office, to honor the Marshal’s might!"

"In my name, send documents to the Southern War Zone Governor’s Office, requesting reinforcements!"

"In the Marshal’s name, send the Marshal’s last words to Guangqing City, conveying to the Marshal’s family!"

"Order, military to wear white, in mourning for the Marshal!"

One by one, the military orders were swiftly executed, the army quietly started clearing the battlefield, tidying the corpses.

Suddenly, a priest frowned and pointed at the blood on the ground, "Did you notice, the blood here seems to be seeping into the ground much faster than normal?"

This statement immediately drew the attention of many priests and Vanguard General Tang Zhun.

Moments later, all marching priests and Vanguard General Tang Zhun’s expressions turned indescribably grave.

The absorbing speed of this blood was increasingly rapid!

"Something’s wrong, this isn’t right! Record this moment, report it to the Ancestor God Temple!" said the leading priest.

"Use Shadow Capture Jade Slip to record and report the scenario with speed to the Southern War Zone Governor’s Office and Human Demon Battlefield Commander’s Mansion!" Tang Zhun also ordered!

Just as Tang Zhun’s command was given, the blood on the ground trembled and instantly disappeared into the earth.

At that same instant, all bodies on the ground began to wither rapidly, turning formerly full humans into shriveled skeletons!

"This...."

All priests and soldiers were stunned, this scene was too eerie!

Suddenly, the highest cultivating priest turned pale, tremblingly pointing below, "Underground!"

"There’s an indescribably vast amount of negative energy surging up...not good, retreat..."

Before the words finished, blood-colored light erupted from below, affecting all soldiers of Great Zhou.

This blood-colored light contained masses of Blood Qi, Killing Qi, Resentment Qi, and Evil Qi, impacting many soldiers and priests, making them cold and desperately resisting these negative energies.

Some soldiers with lower cultivation immediately lost their minds under the impact, attacking comrades like mindless beasts!

The recently settled Laiyang Fortress fell into chaos instantly!

The range of the blood-colored pillar rapidly expanded, and in a blink, a hundred-mile-wide blood-colored pillar shot skyward!

As the surroundings shook, the recently retreated Demon Clan army, bathed in this bloody pillar, displayed expressions of ecstatic surprise!
