Chapter 800: Chapter 361: Live Sea Fishing Competition (Part 2)

"A competition? Ha!" Mike, like a bull whose fighting spirit had been ignited, snorted with pride, "I just think using my gear, filled with soul and stories, against these brand new ’gold-plated weapons’ is a bit unfair."

Despite his words, his body was honest. He turned and walked into the cabin, soon coming out with a weathered canvas rod bag.

He carefully pulled out a fishing rod from the bag, a custom-made handcrafted rod that looked quite aged. The deep blue rod was wrapped with handmade gold guide lines, and the cork handle had a warm luster from years of use.

Paired with it was a classic silver Penn International 30TW reel, its body full of tiny scratches left by time, like medals on an old soldier.

"See this?" Mike caressed his beloved reel almost like stroking a lover, "This is true legendary gear. This rod was handcrafted by a nearly retired master in the Outer Banks Islands of North Carolina."

"It accompanied me in catching my first bluefin tuna and once had its tip broken by a storm, only to be later repaired."

"It has a soul, unlike these cold machines." He glanced at Lin Yu’an’s three sets of "brand new" weapons, his eyes filled with the pride of an old-school angler.

Lin Yu’an, on hearing this, didn’t feel offended but instead showed an appreciative look: "A rod with stories is worthy of respect."

"Indeed, stories are worthy of respect! The results are not that important. But we can add a little bet."

He pointed to the sea in the distance: "Before reaching Nassau, each person uses one rod, and whoever catches more fish is today’s champion! The loser will be responsible for cleaning the deck and handling all the fish tonight! How about it?"

[A competition! Wow, so exciting so early in the morning?]

[The bet is to wash the deck! I bet Captain Mike will win, experience is king!]

[I’m putting five on God Lin! Trust in the power of money!]

"I’m in! And I want to be the referee too!" Riven immediately responded excitedly.

"Deal." Lin Yu’an agreed with a smile.

"Alright, contestants, please choose your weapons!" Riven announced.

Mike unhesitatingly patted his old partner: "Of course I’m using it. It understands me best."

Lin Yu’an, however, pondered a bit in front of those three sets of brand-new top-tier equipment.

The Tiagra 130 was too extravagant, prepared for legendary big catches, and might not be suitable for nearshore, the PENN International was powerful but somewhat bulky.

In the end, he chose the fastest silver Accurate Valiant, "I’ll use this, I believe in speed."

"A wise choice." Mike nodded.

[Wow! Captain Mike’s gear has such a feel! This is the weapon of a master!]

[Old vs new! Pay-to-win player vs hardcore veteran! I love this drama!]

[Speaking of which, have you seen anyone catch fish with a lollipop?]

[Lollipop fishing? Are they trying to make me laugh to death and inherit my virtual credit? Haha! I checked...woc?]

So, Lin Yu’an began preparing the fishing setup for his Accurate rod. Opening a lure box that looked like a jewelry box, the abundant "ammo" made the live-stream audience gasp in awe again.

He finally chose a silver high-speed lure that mimicked a flying fish.

Meanwhile, Mike took out from his little tackle box a seemingly unremarkable, even slightly chipped, pink octopus soft lure.

He attached it to the hook, and with a voice full of confidence, said, "Sometimes the simplest can be the deadliest. This bait is my lucky bait."

Riven, on the side, skillfully prepared the grappling hook, a de-hooker, and a sharp knife for bleeding. Like a true referee, she announced to the camera: "Alright! The weapons have been chosen! The competition begins now!"

As the first rays of sunlight pierced the horizon, painting the entire sea a magnificent golden hue.

The two lures, bearing the weight of victory or defeat, were successively cast into the water, trailing behind the Polaris, creating white waves dancing like ballet on the water.

The fishing had officially begun.

The dawn sea was full of vitality.

They didn’t have to wait long, about twenty minutes later, while Riven was preparing simple breakfast sandwiches for the three, the tip of the silver rod Lin Yu’an chose suddenly jerked down as if hit by a jolt!

Immediately following, before anyone could react, the drag system of the reel emitted a sharp whirring sound like a fighter jet accelerating!

"Zzzzzzzzz——!!!"

"Fish on! It’s Lin! Lin got the first catch!" Riven was the first to scream with excitement, almost dropping the sandwich in her hand!

Mike also turned his head swiftly, seeing the crazily unwinding reel, and immediately shouted: "It’s a Wahoo! Only this guy has such a reckless sprint speed!"

"Lin! Hold on! Feel its every head shake with your body, don’t let the spool explode!"

[Here it comes! Fish on! This sound is too thrilling!]

[Oh my god! The bend in that rod is too outrageous! It looks like it’s going to break!]

[No way, it’s just this Zzzzzz sound! This is the sound a man should hear!]

[I think some old guy in the comments might suddenly decide to head home just while fishing.]
