King of the Wilderness
Chapter 821 - 368: Exploring the Sunken Ship
Chapter 821: Chapter 368: Exploring the Sunken Ship
In the paradise-like bay of Rose Island, Polaris quietly floated on the turquoise water.
A fulfilling "treasure hunt" and diving training had just ended, and the aroma of lunch began wafting from the ship’s cabin.
On the teak dining table on the deck, Mike prepared sandwiches.
"To our treasure hunters!" Mike raised his chilled beer, making the first toast to Lin Yu’an and Riven, "And to our target this afternoon, the ’Mahoney’!"
"Cheers!"
The clinking of three beer bottles marked the beginning of the shipwreck exploration.
The atmosphere at lunch was relaxed and joyful.
Riven took out her waterproof tablet, pulled up several underwater photos of the "Mahoney," and began the afternoon briefing for Lin Yu’an.
"Look here," she pointed at a wide-angle photo showing a ship lying quietly on the sand, completely covered with coral and sponge outlines.
"This is the ’Mahoney.’ In the official record, it’s a small freight ship from Bahamas during the Second World War, sunk in a massive hurricane in 1942."
"Nowadays, it has become a very popular artificial reef and diving spot."
"Its hull structure is fairly intact," Riven zoomed in on a portion of the photo, her face brimming with spirited anticipation.
"The bow is now home to giant tubular sponges and gorgonians, like an underwater garden."
"The former cargo hold is completely open, usually housing schools of silver tarpons, whose scales reflect a myriad of lights when sunlight pours in—it’s spectacular."
She then pulled up another photo, showing a fierce-looking giant creature peeking halfway out of a dark cave.
"And this big guy lives near the helm, the guardian of this shipwreck—a huge green moray eel, which we all call ’George.’"
"Don’t get too close, and don’t shine a flashlight in its eyes; it has quite a temper."
Listening to Riven’s detailed introduction, Lin Yu’an seemed to have already toured that mysterious underwater world through her narrative.
"However," Riven’s expression turned serious as she looked at Lin Yu’an, emphasizing the safety protocol once more.
"This is your first true wreck dive and your OW (Open Water Diver) graduation assessment. So we must strictly adhere to the rules."
"Absolutely not allowed to enter any enclosed spaces inside the hull! We’ll just explore the exterior, like visiting a museum. Understood?"
"Understood, Coach." Lin Yu’an nodded solemnly.
"Ha, Lin, don’t just listen to her." Captain Mike said half-jokingly while taking a bite of his sandwich, "Keep your eyes open after diving, this area was once the route for Spanish treasure ships hundreds of years ago."
"Though the Mahoney is a newer ship, who knows, maybe it sunk right on top of some ancient treasure. Stranger things have happened at sea."
"Dad! Stop misleading my student!" Riven feigned annoyance.
"I call it adding fun to exploration!" Mike laughed with indifference.
After lunch break, Polaris raised anchor and headed towards the shipwreck point a few nautical miles away.
During the sail, Lin Yu’an started preparing the underwater live streaming equipment for the afternoon, opening an orange professional waterproof case and taking out the precision underwater streaming system.
"Alright, good afternoon everyone," he first started the live stream on his phone, aiming the camera at himself and Riven behind him.
"We are heading to today’s final destination—the World War II shipwreck ’Mahoney.’"
"To let you all experience the wonders of the underwater world firsthand, I’ll be attempting a real-time underwater broadcast."
He took out the latest DJI Action 4 camera from the case.
"First, this is our eyes." He showed the camera to the lens.
As he spoke, he picked up a thick transparent case with a large lens cover and metal buttons—the official 60m waterproof case from DJI.
"The Action 4 is waterproof up to 18 meters bare, theoretically enough for our 15-meter dive today."
He clicked the camera perfectly into the waterproof case and fastened the latch.
"However, in real open water diving, especially in the complex environment of a shipwreck, we can never just rely on theoretical sufficiency."
"The waterproof case is the second line of defense, ensuring that in any accidental bump or sealing flaw, the equipment and our precious footage remain safe."
He then mounted the camera in its waterproof case on a professional rig with two high-power lighting lamps.
"Underwater light is insufficient, and colors can be distorted. These lights restore the true colors of the shipwreck and marine life. All these accessories must be attached to the waterproof case."
He even took out a square orange-red lens from a small box, clicking it onto the front of the waterproof case.
"That’s a magenta filter," Riven, entranced, couldn’t help but explain to the audience.
"Since the Caribbean Sea tint is green, using a magenta filter can effectively correct color temperature, making the image look more natural and not sickly green. Lin, you’ve really prepared comprehensively."
"Professional work requires professional tools." Lin Yu’an smiled at her.
[Learned a lot! Bare machine waterproof=easy mode; adding a rig=pro mode!]
