Knight: Becoming King of the World

Chapter 407 - 278: Anyone Who Doesn’t Rob Us Is a Good Person

Edmund and Fass were more composed. They directed their Personal Guards to mix in with the serf troops and methodically charge the wall, engaging the city's defenders in a chaotic melee.

Edmund wielded his Double-bladed Spear like an old farmer reaping wheat, methodically striking at the defenders' vitals. Every time Fass's Hand-Half Sword came down, it was accompanied by the agonized cries of the city guard.

The addition of the four nobles' elite forces made the already chaotic wall even bloodier.

In the breach the serfs had created, they engaged the defenders in a desperate struggle, pushing step-by-step toward the city gate.

Faced with this frenzied assault, the defenders gradually began to buckle. Their morale plummeted. A total rout was only a matter of time.

The moment Boman, Fass, Edmund, and Calvin led their Personal Guards into the breach, the tide of the entire battle turned in an instant.

These Personal Guards were clad in heavy, sturdy armor and wielded razor-sharp weapons, radiating the killing intent of a highly-trained force.

Like an unstoppable tide, they instantly smashed into the defenders on the wall, throwing them into a complete rout.

That's how it is with serfs; a swarm of ants can bring down an elephant. But a defensive siege isn't like a battle in an open field. No one deploys vast numbers of cannon fodder on the walls just to trade lives with the enemy.

'What if the enemy suddenly attacks with elite forces? It's impossible to defend!'

'It's just too difficult!'

Boman led the charge. His Two-Handed Sword carved arcs of cold light through the air, each swing accompanied by enemy screams. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

His Personal Guards followed close behind, a pack of humanoid beasts charging into the enemy ranks.

The clang of colliding armor was deafening. The defenders fell back again and again under their charge. Many were knocked straight off the wall, plummeting to their deaths and shattering into pieces below.

"CHAAAARGE!" Calvin's roar echoed across the battlefield as his battle axe claimed life after life.

The enemy's attacks felt like a mere tickle, while his own were utterly unstoppable.

A brave lord makes for brave soldiers. Spurred on by the carnage, Calvin's Personal Guards grew frenzied, their eyes turning bloodshot. They swung their weapons wildly, following their lord like a pack of suicidal madmen.

Their arrival made the battle on the wall even more brutal. Under their assault, the defenders were utterly powerless to retaliate.

Edmund and Fass, by contrast, were far more composed. They directed their Personal Guards to integrate with the serf troops and advance in an orderly fashion.

Edmund's Double-bladed Spear was like a venomous snake, striking only at the defenders' vitals. His thrusts were unerringly precise; every jab found its mark.

Fass's combination of Hand-Half Sword and shield bash was like a fierce tiger descending from the mountains. Each blow was met with an enemy's scream.

Under their command, their Personal Guards charged into the enemy ranks, routing them one by one.

In truth, these Personal Guards were all candidates to become Knights' Squires, and their combat effectiveness was off the charts.

They were unstoppable on the battlefield—well-armored, well-armed, and well-trained. How were the defenders supposed to fight that?

An elite breakthrough was just that difficult to counter, unless Count Akakarat was willing to meet them head-on with his own elites.

The four nobles' Personal Guards tore through the enemy ranks. Their assault completely broke the defenders on the wall, who routed in the blink of an eye.

As the Personal Guards advanced, the defenders on the wall fell back again and again.

Watching the situation on the wall change, Henry was left speechless. 'Is this the allure of honor and money? Why are these men so damn crazy?'

Boman and his men, along with their Personal Guards, were like wild horses loosed from their reins. They charged forward with no regard for their own safety, as if the entire world was theirs for the taking.

As for the serfs, it was as if their fighting spirit had been set ablaze. With bloodshot eyes, they scrambled up the walls, fighting the defenders with no regard for their own lives.

The serfs saw a glimmer of hope for victory. If they won, they could finally live like men!

Henry frowned. 'This won't do. At this rate, they'll win the battle with just the men they have now. By the time my army even gets in on the action, they'll already be plundering the city!'

With a grand wave of his hand, Henry gave the signal. War horns blared and war drums thundered as the main army formations began to advance.

To the rhythm of horn and drum, Henry's main force surged toward the wall like a great tide.

They carried spears, swords, axes, hammers, shields, and bows. They marched in perfect unison, an overwhelming force.

Henry stood on a high platform, his eyes fixed on the battle raging on the wall.

The battle was reaching its climax. As long as his army could successfully mount the wall and link up with the nobles' Personal Guards and the serfs, victory would be within his grasp. Taking Akakarat City would be as easy as reaching into his own pocket.

The fighting on the wall grew even more intense. The nobles' Personal Guards and the serfs had already taken most of the ramparts, and the defenders' resistance was faltering.

Henry's army began scaling the Cloud Ladders, their movements practiced and fearless.

Every serf's corpse they stepped over was another step toward victory.

Henry's eyes narrowed slightly, as if he could already hear it: Overlord Training +1... Overlord Training +1...

As Henry's army poured onto the wall, the scales of battle tipped completely in their favor.

The defenders' resistance, like a candle flickering in the wind, was snuffed out in an instant. Victory was at hand, and Henry would be the master of it all.

After this battle, he would be the most powerful noble in the entire Eastern Grasslands—its uncrowned king!

The walls were finally and utterly breached. The soldiers of Henry's alliance flooded into the city like a tidal wave. The moment the gates were thrown open, dust filled the air. Sunlight pierced through gaps in the smoke, casting a harsh, glaring light upon the streets.

The civilians inside the city had been cowering in their homes. As the cacophony from outside reached their ears, their hearts filled with terror.
