Chapter 166: Chapter 166: The dream..

In the dream, Amelia finished reciting the final word.

A blinding light burst from her body, flooding the entire room until the walls, the floor, and even the air around them seemed to glow. She instinctively lifted a hand to shield her eyes, but the light didn’t hurt her. Instead, a strange tingling sensation swept through her body, starting at her fingertips and spreading all the way to her bones.

She sucked in a breath, staring at her hands.

They were glowing.

"What the hell..." Reid muttered.

Amelia barely heard him. She could feel something moving inside her, something powerful that had always been there but had remained hidden until now. It was as if a door had opened inside her, revealing knowledge she had never learned but somehow understood.

Then her father’s voice reached her through the mind link.

Heal the injured one with you.

Amelia’s head lifted.

How? she wanted to ask, but before she could form the question, she already knew what to do.

Her gaze fell on Reid. Blood had soaked through his clothes, and his face had grown pale from the wound.

She carefully moved his hand away from the wound. The moment she placed her palm over the injured area, a warm sensation traveled through her fingers.

The blood stopped flowing.

She watched in astonishment as the wound began to close beneath her hand, the torn flesh knitting itself back together until nothing remained but bloodstains on his shirt.

Reid stared down at his side, then slowly looked at her.

He pressed his fingertips against the place where the wound had been, his mouth falling open slightly.

"That was..." He looked up at Amelia, struggling to find the right words. "You just healed me."

Amelia pulled her hand back and stared at it. The glow remained, brighter than before, and she could feel the unfamiliar energy coursing through her body.

"I think I did."

"How did you do that?"

"I don’t know." Amelia swallowed and glanced at her hands again.

Before any of them could ask another question, a violent crash shook the room.

Everyone turned toward the door.

The desks and chairs piled against it rattled as something slammed into the other side. Amelia’s heart gave a sudden thump, and Reid immediately moved in front of her, one arm extending to keep her behind him.

"Tell me that thing has finally given up," he muttered.

Another impact sent one of the desks scraping across the floor.

Dean’s expression hardened. "Whatever it is, it’s not giving up."

"Get away from the door," Enzo ordered.

They moved back just as the barricade shuddered again. Wood cracked beneath the pressure, and a chair toppled over. Then came another crash, louder than the others, followed by a horrible snapping sound.

The door burst inward.

A rogue forced its way through the broken barricade, its deformed body filling the opening. Its jaws snapped as it searched the room, and its movements were so violent that the remaining furniture scraped across the floor beneath its weight.

She was staring at the creature.

Strangely, she wasn’t afraid. She could see its teeth, hear its snarling, and feel the air shift as it lunged into the room, yet none of it stirred the panic she should have felt.

Her father’s voice came through the mind link again.

Wait. Don’t do anything yet. We’re getting close—

Amelia didn’t wait. She tore her wrist from Reid’s grasp and rushed forward.

"Amelia!"

She met the rogue head-on and slammed both glowing hands against its chest.

The creature froze.

A strangled sound escaped its throat, followed by a scream so raw and agonizing that everyone in the room instinctively recoiled. The rogue thrashed, its claws scraping against the floor as cracks of brilliant light spread across its body.

Amelia held on.

The light grew brighter, swallowing the creature from the inside out. Its body began to fracture, breaking apart into glowing fragments that drifted through the air like dust caught in a beam of sunlight.

Then, just as suddenly as it had appeared, the rogue disappeared.

Nothing remained.

Amelia stood in the middle of the room, breathing steadily as the glow around her hands slowly faded.

She turned around.

Reid was staring at the empty space where the rogue had stood, his face drained of color. Dean’s mouth was slightly open, and even Enzo, who usually managed to remain composed in the worst situations, looked as though he had no idea what to say.

He approached her slowly, his gaze shifting from her hands to her face.

"Amelia..."

"...Who are you?"

She was just as confused as he was, and the realization left an uncomfortable knot in her stomach.

"I want to ask my parents the same question."

**

Sirens wailed in the distance.

Outside the school, the remaining rogues were being engaged by the forces that had arrived to contain the attack. Some soldiers operated heavy gun machinery, firing at the creatures from behind protective barriers, while others fought at close range with their bare fists and claws.

The entire area had descended into chaos.

Hours passed before the fighting finally subsided. By then, the school grounds had become a scene of devastation, with ambulances filling the courtyard and emergency teams rushing between the damaged buildings.

Through the glass, she caught sight of emergency workers carrying a covered body toward another vehicle.

Amelia sat in the back seat of her parents’ car as they drove away from the school.

She hadn’t said much since leaving the building. Her hands rested in her lap, and every so often, she would look down at them, remembering how they had glowed when she healed Reid and how the rogue had crumbled beneath her touch.

She couldn’t stop thinking about it.

How?

She shifted in her seat and looked toward the front of the car. Her mother sat rigidly in the passenger seat, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. Her father drove in silence, his attention fixed on the road.

Neither of them had explained anything.

Amelia’s patience finally ran out.

"Are you waiting for me to start asking questions?" she demanded.
