Chapter 84: Chapter 84: can’t wake up

Madame’s voice softened, but you can still feel the gravity behind her words.

"I believe your birth was never ordinary. With the kind of power you carry, if the wrong people had gotten their hands on you as an infant, they would have turned you into a weapon without a second thought."

Amelia didn’t disagree. Her other self already told her that.

"I’ll keep looking," Madame said. "As thoroughly as I can."

"Thank you." Amelia’s voice was full of gratitude. "You’re already doing more than enough for me. I don’t even know how to repay that."

"You already are. Your presence alone has brought a kind of soft light into this house that it hasn’t known in a very long time."

When the meal finally ended, Madame rose with her usual composed grace.

"You have every right to sleep in any of my sons’ rooms if you wish. Lock the door if you like, or i can help you with it. They wouldn’t dare break the walls down—or climb through the windows. They know better than to test me."

Amelia managed a small, wry smile. "I’ve got it covered."

She excused herself and returned to her room.

The new bottle of sleeping pills sat waiting on the side table. Amelia picked it up, turning it once in her hand.

"It’s time," she murmured. "I can’t wait any longer."

Outside the window the sky had already begun to darken. The clock read 6:30. She shook a single pill into her palm, swallowed it with a quick sip of water, and climbed into bed.

The drug worked fast. Within minutes her breathing evened and sleep pulled her under.

Then the air in the room changed.

A small, previously unnoticed round orb tucked high in the corner of the ceiling began to pulse. A thick black aura bled outward from it, spreading in slow, hungry waves until it filled the space like smoke. Swifty noticed it immediately.

The silver bird erupted into frantic, piercing cries, wings beating hard as he tried to reach Amelia.

She didn’t wake.

Her body started to shake. Soft, broken sounds escaped her throat as pain tore through her.

"Stop... it hurts—it hurts—"

Swifty landed on the bed, tugging at her hair, her sleeve, anything he could reach, but the drug held her under. All he could do was hope the noise would bring someone—anyone.

In the same house, three sharp, simultaneous pains lanced through the brothers’ chests like needles driven straight into the heart.

But they knew at once that something was very wrong. They all abandoned what they were doing and ran at full speeds. They converged on Amelia’s corridor at nearly the same time.

Dean didn’t hesitate, and one brutal kick shattered the door off its hinges.

The moment the barrier broke, Amelia’s agonized cries and Swifty’s frantic alarm flooded the hallway.

Black aura still swirled thickly through the room. None of them understood what it was—only that Amelia was thrashing wildly across the bed, body convulsing, trapped in herself.

Enzo gathered her up with no hesitation, lifting her clear of the bed and the swirling darkness. He moved quickly, carrying her out of the room and down the corridor at a run.

"Amelia. Wake up. Look at me."

She didn’t respond. Her body continued to shake against him, face twisted in pain, breath coming in broken, uneven gasps. Reid and Dean stayed close with tight expressions, neither of them understanding what force had taken hold of her—only that every second it continued felt wrong.

*

Inside her mind, the nightmare refused to release its grip.

She stood in a place that felt too real to be a dream.

The air reeked of blood and wet fur. One by one, the people she cared about were dragged into the open and set upon by wolves that looked too large and very intentional with their cruelty.

Madame was first. The pack closed around her without hurry. She tried to stay upright, blood already staining the front of her clothes as the first jaws locked on.

"Amelia—why—"

The rest of the sentence dissolved into a choked cry as the wolves tore into her. Even as her body was dragged down and ripped apart, her eyes stayed locked on Amelia.

"This is because of you... you brought this death into my house—"

Kate was next as she fought harder, thrashing, screaming Amelia’s name between broken sobs that quickly turned wet and desperate.

"Amelia! Amelia, please—!"

The wolves pulled her down. Her voice rose into raw, furious curses even as they tore her open.

"You did this! You cursed all of us just by existing! I should never have stayed near you!"

The twins were taken together. Lila and Lana reached for each other even as the animals dragged them in opposite directions.

"It’s her fault—" Lila choked.

"She brought this on us!" Lana screamed. "Amelia, you did this—you ruined everything!"

Their voices overlapped in the same broken refrain until the sounds became wet and then stopped altogether.

The rest of the crew followed in a blur of violence. Marcus. Kai. Theo. Bodies forced to the ground, limbs yanked in different directions while they still had enough breath left to spit her name like poison.

"Amelia—"

"This is on you—"

"You should have died—"

Then the brothers.

They lasted longer than the others, but the end was no less cruel. The wolves did not simply kill them—they dismantled them. Arms first. Then legs. Then whatever remained, pulled apart while the three of them were still conscious enough to look at her. Their voices, when they came, were quieter than the others but far heavier.

"You did this."

"We should never have kept you alive."

Amelia had never felt anything so crushing.

The torture didn’t stop, but kept looping again and again until the screams, the wet sounds of tearing, and the endless stream of blame became the only reality she could still perceive.

"Stop—please stop—"

A calm voice slid through the horror

This is your fault. They died because of you. Because you exist.

Amelia clamped her hands over her eyes, but it made no difference. T

If you want it to end, then end it yourself. Accept that your life has no meaning. No worth. Put a stop to all of it. Put an end...to your life.
