Julian’s POV

The shift in control was terrifying, but the worst part was that I had let it happen.

I was supposed to be the one in charge. I ran this department, managed thirty people, and made decisions that involved seven-figure budgets without flinching.

Yet here I was, back pressed flat against the solid edge of my own mahogany desk, entirely pinned by David’s gaze and the solid, unyielding heat of his body.

When he placed his palm flat against my chest, my heart slammed against my ribs so hard I was certain he could feel it through the crisp cotton of my shirt.

I tried to pull up every ounce of executive authority I possessed, to find the sharp tone I used in boardrooms and tell him to back off before this went past the point of no return.

Instead, my knuckles just dug harder into the wood behind me.

"Tell me to stop," David whispered. His voice was steady, deep, and completely devoid of the deference he usually showed me during office hours.

His thumb traced a agonizingly slow line along the exposed skin at my neck, and a sharp shudder ran straight down my spine.

"Tell me to go back to my desk, and I will."

I opened my mouth, but the words caught in my throat. I couldn’t say it.

I’d watched him for months - the quiet confidence, the way he moved around the office, the intensity in his eyes whenever our glances crossed across the open floor.

I had told myself it was just a harmless distraction, a bit of background noise to get through long corporate hours.

But having him this close, feeling the sheer physical presence of a man who was usually answering to me now taking complete command of the room, turned every neat boundary I had built into ash.

His hand shifted slightly, fingers gripping the fabric over my sternum, holding me right where he wanted me.

I tilted my head back against the glass partition behind my desk, my breathing coming faster now, shallow and uneven.

"David..." I breathed out, the warning weak and breathless on my tongue.

"I’m listening, Julian," he murmured, his breath fanning warm against my jawline, refusing to give an inch.

He didn’t move away, and the terrifying truth settling over me was that I didn’t want him to. I wanted to see how far he would push it.

David didn’t wait for me to find my words.

The moment the silence stretched long enough to answer for me, his other hand came up, wrapping around the back of my neck.

His fingers tangled into my hair, firm and demanding, pulling me in before I could even draw a full breath.

When his mouth met mine, the last thread of my composure snapped completely.

It wasn’t tentative. It was deep, heavy, and full of an authority that made my knees go weak.

I gasped into the kiss, and he took immediate advantage, deepening it, pressing his hips so flush against mine that I was lifted slightly onto the edge of the mahogany desk.

My hands, which had been white-knuckling the wood behind me, betrayed me completely - they slid up his chest, gripping the fabric of his shirt as if to pull him closer, to anchor myself against the heat pouring off him.

A quiet, helpless groan caught in the back of my throat.

Every rule, every boundary, every professional standard I had built my career on evaporated under the pressure of his mouth on mine.

He tasted like cold coffee and heat, his grip on my waist tightening until I could feel the individual print of his fingers digging into my skin through my trousers.

He shifted his weight, crowding me further, his mouth leaving mine for a fraction of a second to trail down my jawline, burying his lips into the sensitive hollow just beneath my ear.

A sharp, involuntary shudder racked my body, my head falling back against his shoulder as he took full control of my breathing, my posture, my sanity.

"David..." I managed, the word breathless, completely ruined.

His hand slid lower, down my side to the small of my back, pulling me so hard against him that there was no space left between us.

The sheer thrill of being completely unraveled by my own employee sent a dangerous surge of electricity straight down my spine.

Then, my eyes caught the dark reflection in the glass partition opposite my desk.

In the dim light of the hallway, I saw the two of us - my shirt unbuttoned at the top, my head thrown back, completely helpless and pinned under David’s body inside the very office where I conducted performance reviews.

HR. The department. My career. His job.

The reality hit me like I was splashed with ice water.

The panic surged through my veins, sharp and cold enough to cut right through the haze of pleasure.

I slammed my palms flat against his chest and pushed.

It took real effort - he was solid, anchored, and entirely locked into the moment - but the sudden physical push made him stumble back a half-step, breaking the contact.

His eyes were dark, his chest heaving, his mouth swollen as he stared down at me, clearly stunned by the sudden disruption.

"Stop," I choked out, my voice raspy and trembling as I scrambled back off the edge of the desk, putting the wood firmly between us once again.

My hands were shaking violently as I reached up to button my collar with numb fingers. "Stop. Right now."

"Julian..." David took a step forward, his voice low, still thick with heat.

"No, David. Don’t." I backed away until my spine hit the far glass wall, holding up a hand to keep him where he was.

My heart was hammering so fast it felt like it would tear through my ribs.

"This is... this is completely out of line. We can’t do this."

"You didn’t want me to stop a second ago," he said, his gaze searching my face, cool and unbothered by the sudden panic, which only made my skin burn hotter.

"It doesn’t matter what happened a second ago!" I snapped, struggling to force my tone back into something resembling command, even as my breath hitched.

"I am your supervisor. You work for me. If anyone saw us - if anyone found out about this - it’s wrong. It’s completely wrong, and it cannot happen again."

David didn’t look remorseful. He just stood there, his jaw set, watching me frantically try to piece my professional armor back together.

"Fix your shirt and get your things," I said, my voice barely holding steady as I turned away, refusing to let him see the sheer effort it was taking to keep my hands from shaking.

"We are going home. And tomorrow, we go back to work like this never happened."
