Chapter 613 - 403: Package
Chapter 613: Chapter 403: Package
Just as Feng Mountain was waiting for Uncle Luo’s son to deliver the package, the phone in his pocket suddenly rang.
He pulled out his phone and saw Brother Kai’s name on the screen.
Feng Mountain stepped aside, making sure it wasn’t too noisy, then answered the call.
"Bro, where you at?" On the other end of the line, Brother Kai’s voice was as booming and warmly familiar as ever.
"I’m just walking around the area where my old restaurant used to be. What’s up?" Feng Mountain’s tone was calm, but his eyes subconsciously swept over the surroundings, which were now completely unrecognizable.
"We’re throwing you a welcome-home dinner tonight. Su found out you were back in the country and came all the way from the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Su Ziweng and Xu Gongzi will be there too. Send me your location, and I’ll have a car pick you up. I’ve already arranged for someone to get Xiaohua and the others."
Brother Kai had clearly planned this welcome-home banquet meticulously.
Feng Mountain knew perfectly well that Brother Kai had mentioned throwing him a welcome-home party several times since they’d met.
’If I refuse again, I’ll just seem ungrateful.’
So, Feng Mountain sighed softly and had no choice but to agree.
"Got it. I’ll send you the address in a bit." After saying that, Feng Mountain hung up.
He opened WeChat and sent Brother Kai his location.
Just then, a middle-aged man appeared on a nearby park path, looking rushed. He was clutching a black bag, and from the looks of it, the bag was quite large.
The middle-aged man strode quickly into the garden, his gaze darting around anxiously as if looking for someone.
When he spotted Uncle Luo standing off to the side, he immediately picked up his pace and ran toward them.
With a look of confusion and complaint, he said, "Dad, why are you wandering around for no reason? This package has been sitting around for years. Why are you still keeping it?!"
"What the hell do you know? When you accept a task for someone, you see it through." Hearing his son’s complaint, Uncle Luo glared at him, his eyes filled with displeasure. He shakily raised a trembling hand, pointed at Feng Mountain standing nearby, and said loudly, "Give it to Xiaofeng! It’s his!"
His voice was a bit weak, but it carried an unshakeable conviction.
A warm feeling washed over Feng Mountain as he watched the scene unfold.
He took a small step forward and said with a grateful smile on his face,
"Uncle Luo, thank you. You’ve kept this for me for so many years."
’Xiaofeng?’
’Feng Mountain?’
The middle-aged man’s hands, which were holding the package, suddenly tightened their grip. The black plastic bag made a faint rustling sound.
He froze for a moment, repeating the name under his breath.
He quickly followed his father’s pointed finger and his gaze fell upon Feng Mountain.
’That incident back then had caused a massive uproar in Hai City. It was huge. Several people died.’
The middle-aged man remembered it clearly.
’He’d heard that this Feng Mountain had been close to facing a firing squad, but after a series of trials, his sentence was commuted to ten years in prison.’
’When did he get out?’
’How come I haven’t heard a single thing about it?’
"Brother Luo." Feng Mountain’s voice carried a hint of familiar warmth.
Back when he ran his small restaurant, whenever there were no customers, the nearby shop owners and their employees would gather to drink and shoot the shit. The middle-aged man before him had often been one of them.
"Ah... oh..."
Hearing Feng Mountain’s greeting, the middle-aged man paused briefly, his expression instantly becoming a little unnatural.
His eyes flickered, as if he didn’t know how to respond.
Then, as if remembering something, he quickly spoke up, "Xiaofeng, when did you get out? Oh, right, this is your package."
After speaking, he hurriedly thrust the package at Feng Mountain as if it were a hot potato, his movements flustered.
After handing over the package, he subconsciously wiped his hands on his pants a few times, as if he had touched something unclean.
Seeing this, Feng Mountain’s lips curved into a faint, self-deprecating smile.
He didn’t say anything more, just lowered his head and looked at the package in his hands.
The shipping label on it had long since faded, the writing blurred and indistinct from the passage of time.
However, Feng Mountain could still vaguely make out the name on it: Ms.
Looking at the shipper’s information, he saw it read "Cloud Robe."
Feng Mountain guessed to himself, ’It’s probably some clothes that Ms. bought.’
While Feng Mountain was inspecting the package, Uncle Luo began to curse out his son.
"You heartless son of a bitch!" Uncle Luo’s hand, gripping his cane, trembled violently. His cloudy eyes looked ready to pop out of their sockets, and his bony, branch-like finger jabbed toward his son’s nose. "Back in the day, Xiaofeng looked after our supermarket so well! The local thugs didn’t even dare to come by and collect protection money. He saved us so much trouble. And now? He’s standing right in front of you and you don’t even recognize him?"
Uncle Luo grew more agitated as he spoke, his throat emitting a wheezing sound like a bellows. Veins bulged on his age-spotted neck.
The middle-aged man’s face flushed red. He shrank back half a step, stole a glance at Feng Mountain, and muttered under his breath, "Dad, he’s a murderer..."
Before he could finish, Uncle Luo’s cane slammed onto the ground with a THUD.
He was so enraged by his son that he looked on the verge of having another stroke, and his body began to shake even more severely.
"Don’t you know damn well why Xiaofeng killed those people? Those little bastards deserved to die, and it served them right!"
A cold wind rustled the branches, sending a few dead leaves swirling between the three of them.
