Chapter 693 -443: Opportunity

When asked about the loan amount,

Old Tom’s face fell instantly, his expression the very picture of misery and despair.

“Buddy, it wasn’t one plane, it was ten whole Piper Cubs. To make a little more money in the transportation business, I put the flight school up as collateral and took out a 1 million US Dollar loan from the bank.”

“Most of that money went to buying the planes, and the rest I invested in renovating the flight school. I thought I was going to make it big, but who knew…”

“And now? Once that highway is finished, the transport business will plummet. How am I supposed to pay back this 1 million dollar loan?” Old Tom’s voice was laced with despair, as if he could already see a tragic future where he was crushed by debt.

1 million!

Feng Shan froze, his face a mask of astonishment.

A moment later, he gave an impressed thumbs-up and said, half-joking and half-serious, “Buddy, are you trying to drive yourself into bankruptcy? Taking out a loan that big… you’re too impulsive!”

Although his tone carried a hint of teasing, he was mostly just surprised at Old Tom’s risky move.

‘He was so confident that he went all-in, betting his entire net worth on the future of Crown Territory.’

The moment Old Tom heard what Feng Shan said, he emotionally broke down.

He yanked his hands off the steering wheel, twisted his whole body around, and started bawling his grievances out to Feng Shan, his eyes full of hurt.

“God, how was I supposed to know you were going to build a highway?”

“Those bastards at the oil company, fuck, they clearly said they were building an oil road.”

“Who would have thought they’d hide the fact that it was going to connect to Crown Territory?”

“These damn capitalists only see money! They don’t give a damn about a citizen’s right to know—they’ve thrown it all to the dogs! It’s shameless!”

Just as Old Tom was emotionally venting his frustrations,

Feng Shan caught sight of a car speeding toward them out of the corner of his eye.

He instantly turned pale with fright. Lunging for the steering wheel while pointing at the windshield, he screamed,

“Fuck! There’s a car ahead! Grab the wheel, we’re in the wrong lane!”

HONK HONK HONK!!

A large truck, like an enraged beast, came roaring toward the pickup truck.

The piercing sound of its horn split the air. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

The women in the back seat, terrified by the sudden crisis, let out high-pitched screams in unison.

The two vehicles were about to collide.

Cold sweat instantly beaded on Old Tom’s forehead, his eyes betraying extreme tension and panic.

But his survival instinct kicked in, and he reacted instantly.

He quickly grabbed the steering wheel again and wrenched it to one side.

The pickup truck, like an out-of-control Wild Ox, swerved erratically to the side, avoiding the truck. Then, amidst the chaos, it swerved erratically back into the correct lane and pulled over to the side of the road.

Gordon, following behind them, watched with his heart in his throat.

He watched helplessly as the pickup truck weaved between lanes like a drunkard, his heart leaping into his throat.

First, it veered to one side, then lurched to the other, scraping past the truck by a hair’s breadth.

Finally, the pickup truck came to a stop, shaken but unscathed.

Once the pickup truck was stationary, a furious and flustered Feng Shan shoved the door open and stumbled out.

The moment his feet hit the ground, his legs felt weak, like he was walking on cotton.

He was still reeling from the fear of his narrow escape from death.

‘This fucking driving…’

It was like taking a stroll past the gates of hell. A few more inches and they would have collided head-on.

“I’m sorry!!” Old Tom, his face ashen and his legs trembling, also staggered out of the vehicle.

Still shaken, he looked back at the truck, which was about to disappear from view.

His heart was still pounding in his chest, feeling like it would burst.

If they had actually crashed just now, the consequences would have been unimaginable. Everyone in the truck could have been killed.

Gordon and Nash, in the car behind, quickly pulled over. The moment their car stopped, they impatiently threw open the doors and sprinted toward the pickup truck.

“Boss, what happened?” Gordon yelled as he ran.

Nash followed behind, pulling open the truck’s door to help the terrified, limp women get out first.

“I’m sorry!” Old Tom apologized again, lowering his head, unable to meet Feng Shan’s eyes. He explained with a guilty expression, “I got a little emotional just now. I forgot I was driving… I thought I was in a plane.”

‘So you think you can fly recklessly just because it’s a plane?!’

Feng Shan was about to say this out loud, but he swallowed the words.

He suddenly remembered that Old Tom did, in fact, have a prior record.

Not only did he dare to fly recklessly, but he also dared to drink while flying.

His thoughts instantly drifted back to the first time they met.

Back then, Old Tom had flown Frank to Crown Territory while drunk.

The scene was still vivid in his mind: the plane swaying in the air like a falling leaf, looking like it could crash at any moment.

Thinking about this history,

Feng Shan felt a complicated mix of anger and helplessness.

He knew Old Tom had a reckless nature, but this time, he had truly given everyone a terrible scare.

He took a deep breath, trying to suppress the turbulent emotions inside and calm himself down.

He then quickly turned to look at the still-shaken Jenny and the others.

“Is everyone okay? Is anyone hurt?” Feng Shan asked anxiously, his eyes quickly scanning over each person, afraid of missing even the slightest injury.

Jenny, holding Tammy tightly, shook her head. Her voice still trembled as she said, “No one’s hurt. Tammy’s just badly frightened.”

As she spoke, she gently patted Tammy’s back.

Tammy, like a frightened fawn, nestled tightly in Jenny’s arms, her body still trembling slightly.
