Landlord in the Arctic
Chapter 706: Confession (2)
Erica’s words kept echoing in her mind: ‘Feng is a very traditional guy. You should be straight with him.’
With that in mind,
Jenny hesitated no longer. She grabbed the beast-hide coat draped over the sofa, put it on, and headed for the door.
“Where are you going?” Erica called out, sprawled over the back of the sofa.
“I’m going to find Feng and tell him why.”
Jenny replied curtly without looking back.
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was filled with determination.
Erica scrambled up from the sofa, her eyes twinkling with excitement and a gossipy grin spreading across her face.
Without bothering to straighten her messy clothes, she hurried out after her.
‘She couldn’t miss such a juicy drama.’
「In the bar.」
Dim, yellow light spilled softly into every corner, and the air was filled with the faint scent of alcohol and tobacco.
Feng Mountain sat alone at a table by the window.
On the table sat a half-empty bottle of beer. Foam bubbled faintly at the lip, as if whispering of a silent loneliness.
Feng Mountain was staring quietly out the window, his gaze vacant, his thoughts drifting.
Suddenly, he heard the sound of a chair being gently moved.
“Sorry, this seat is…” Feng Mountain started to say as he turned, but the words died on his lips. “What are you doing here?!”
His voice was laced with surprise. He stared at Jenny, who had sat down across from him, his expression complex.
Jenny’s eyes were bright but filled with reproach. Her cheeks were flushed, and beneath her vexation was a hint of shyness that made her gaze flicker and drift.
“I came looking for you. Why did you come all the way to my door just to turn around and leave?”
Er…
An awkward expression appeared on Feng Mountain’s face.
He looked like someone who had just been caught, shifting uncomfortably.
He reached for the beer, hoping a drink would hide his guilt.
However, just as his hand touched the bottle,
Jenny snatched it away before he could get a grip on it.
And not only that,
She then grabbed his hand. The warm contact made Feng Mountain’s heart skip a beat.
“Are you angry with me? Because of this morning?” Jenny stared intently at Feng Mountain, her eyes filled with a mixture of confusion and hurt.
“N-No!”
Feng Mountain stammered, unconsciously narrowing his eyes out of guilt.
But Jenny had already noticed the subtle movement.
The expression on his face had already betrayed his true thoughts.
“Hasn’t anyone ever told you that you squint whenever you’re nervous, angry, or lying?”
The reproach in Jenny’s eyes gradually gave way to amusement.
The corners of her mouth turned up in a teasing smile.
Seeing Feng Mountain’s flustered state, she found him both adorable and pitiable.
‘Of course I know about that habit of mine.’
‘But I can’t help it.’
Feng Mountain was mortified, the guilt on his face growing more obvious.
He was like a child caught misbehaving.
He quickly widened his eyes, trying to hide his inner panic.
Jenny squeezed the slightly calloused hand she was holding.
Feeling the warmth from his palm, she looked up at the man she loved with all her heart. A storm of emotions swirled within her, and she couldn’t help but let out a silent sigh.
“I’m sorry. This morning, I…”
Jenny lowered her head slightly, her voice choked with emotion.
She wanted to apologize, to explain her actions from that morning.
But when the words came to her lips, she didn’t know where to begin.
“There’s nothing to be sorry for,” Feng Mountain said quickly, cutting her off. “I understand what you want. An ‘independent relationship,’ right?”
His gaze was filled with warmth and understanding.
He couldn’t bear to make Jenny relive her painful past, to reopen her old scars.
After all,
Every time you pick at a scar, it’s like cutting into the original wound all over again.
Eventually, it becomes a mark that will never fade.
‘Let the past be the past.’
‘There’s no need to keep bringing it up.’
‘Those painful memories shouldn’t be dredged up just to hurt her again.’
In fact, after his heart-to-heart with Paine by the river,
Feng Mountain had already figured things out.
He understood that love required tolerance and understanding, that he needed to respect her thoughts and feelings.
Jenny froze when she heard Feng Mountain’s answer.
Before she came, she had run through all the possible scenarios of meeting Feng Mountain in her head.
Maybe Feng would slam the table in anger.
Maybe they would have a huge fight.
Maybe she would have to listen to Feng’s reproaches.
Maybe he wouldn’t accept her ideas at all.
He might even break up with her…
But she had never imagined that Feng would offer her understanding.
“I…” Jenny opened her mouth, but it felt as if something was caught in her throat. For a moment, she was at a loss for words.
Feng Mountain gently interrupted her again.
He turned his hand over to clasp hers tightly, his warmth conveying both tenderness and understanding.
“Let the past be the past. You want an independent relationship, and I won’t object. The log cabin will always have a place for you. You can stay if you want, and if you don’t, you can always come back. You can do whatever you want, and I certainly won’t stop you.”
Feng Mountain’s voice was soft and warm.
Every word was like a warm breeze, gently brushing against Jenny’s heart and instantly calming her anxious soul.
Gazing at Feng Mountain, Jenny’s eyes glistened with tears.
They were tears of gratitude, tears of happiness.
Then, Feng Mountain squeezed her hand, his gaze burning as he stared at her, his eyes filled with resolve.
“You are Feng Mountain’s woman. No matter what, that will never change. If there’s something you don’t like about me, just tell me. You can call me selfish, petty, or possessive—say whatever you want. But on one point, I am firm. From now on, your safety and happiness are mine to protect. In the days to come, no one will even think of harming you.”
Feng Mountain had barely finished speaking when, before Jenny could respond, a collective “Aww” erupted from a nearby table.
The sudden sound startled Feng Mountain, and he quickly turned to look.
Somehow, Erica, Demi, Tammy, and Maria had snuck over.
They were staring at him with gossipy expressions, their eyes shimmering with excitement and envy.
Erica even had a hand clapped dramatically over her mouth, feigning being moved to tears by Feng Mountain’s confession.
“Feng, you’re the most amazing man I’ve ever met,”
Tammy gushed, her hands clasped tightly to her chest. Her eyes, practically heart-shaped, shone with adoration, as if Feng Mountain’s declaration had struck the softest part of her soul.
Seeing this, Erica’s interest was piqued.
She grabbed Demi’s hands, deliberately lowering her voice to imitate Feng Mountain’s tone. Putting on a serious expression, she said to Demi,
“From now on, your safety and happiness are mine to protect. No one will ever hurt you.”
Her antics made everyone around them want to laugh.
“Oh, my darling!”
Demi played along, letting out a coquettish cry before throwing herself into Erica’s arms.
Then, the two women actually started kissing right in front of everyone. The bold move instantly livened up the atmosphere.
Maria said nothing, merely standing quietly to the side, her envious gaze fixed on Jenny.
Her eyes revealed a sense of loneliness.
She silently fantasized,
‘If only she were the one whose hand Feng was holding.’
The appearance of this crowd of gossips
turned what had been a deeply affectionate moment into a comedy routine.
A blush instantly spread across Jenny’s lovely face, creeping from her cheeks to the tips of her ears, more vibrant than a blooming peach blossom.
This time, however, she didn’t shy away from their gazes as she normally might have. Instead, she boldly held Feng Mountain’s hand tightly and started leading him out of the bar.
“Where are we going?” Feng Mountain asked, a bit dazed as he subconsciously followed Jenny’s lead.
“The log cabin. To your bedroom, darling!”
Jenny glanced back, giving him a suggestive look.
Her beautiful eyes were filled with an alluring charm, as if whispering of sweet affection.
Feng Mountain instantly understood what she meant.
After a brief moment of surprise, a knowing smile spread across his face, and he obediently followed Jenny.
Hand in hand, the two of them walked out of the bar.
The cold winter wind brushed against their faces, but it couldn’t cool the passion burning in their hearts.
They walked along the small path toward the log cabin, every step filled with sweetness and anticipation.
Soon, they were back in the bedroom of the log cabin.
Jenny gently pushed the door open, and the two of them disappeared inside.
All that remained was the slowly closing door and a concert that was about to begin.
