Landlord in the Arctic
Chapter 719 - 456: Work
Chapter 719: Chapter 456: Work
Feng Mountain told Jenny everything that had happened at the restaurant that afternoon.
He described every detail with perfect clarity: Tessa’s icy demeanor, her assessment of the Crown Territory’s financial problems, and that data sheet so detailed it gave him a headache.
Although Tessa had shown him no deference whatsoever.
Feng Mountain had to admit she was exceptionally capable.
After listening to Feng Mountain’s complaints, the corners of Jenny’s mouth lifted into a faint smile.
She sat down, leaning gently against Feng Mountain, and spoke softly.
"I think Tessa is right. You should set up a service company so everyone has some security. Your financial management really was a mess before. I’d lose sleep every time it was payday, always worried about making a mistake. With a company, you can just deposit the money directly into the employees’ accounts. It would be so much more convenient."
"I know she’s right, but the problem is I don’t want to work." Feng Mountain sighed helplessly. His plan to be a hands-off boss had fallen through time and time again, and he couldn’t have been more frustrated.
He could only pull Jenny into his embrace, wrapping an arm around her shoulder in a plea for comfort.
He rested his chin on her head, his eyes revealing his exhaustion and helplessness.
"It feels like plans can never keep up with reality. Being the boss really isn’t easy."
Sensing Feng Mountain’s agitation, Jenny leaned into his embrace and gently patted his arm, offering silent comfort.
AWOOO!!
Little Mira had finished her beef.
Her little belly was stuffed to bursting, and she wobbled and swayed as she walked.
She ambled over to Jenny’s feet, then struggled to climb up her pant leg, finally succeeding in crawling into her lap and finding a comfortable spot to lie down.
"Is this little one a gift from Natasha?"
Jenny reached out a finger and gently scratched Little Mira under the chin.
Little Mira closed her eyes in comfort, letting out a satisfied purr, looking completely content.
At this question,
Feng Mountain tensed. The smile on his face froze, and a flash of panic crossed his eyes.
His mind started racing.
He tried to concoct an excuse that wouldn’t hurt Jenny’s feelings but would also allow him to smoothly change the subject.
If he answered this question with even the slightest carelessness,
it could cause an unnecessary misunderstanding.
However, the perceptive Jenny had already noticed how tense the man she loved had become.
She gently let go of Little Mira and raised a hand to tenderly stroke the new stubble on Feng Mountain’s chin. There wasn’t a trace of blame in her eyes, only boundless affection.
"My love, I understand. After all, your family and Miss Natasha’s family arranged your engagement long ago. From the perspective of that promise, she’s your rightful fiancée, and I’m... just the one who came between you."
"No, you two are different!" Feng Mountain hurriedly cut her off, gripping her hand tightly, his eyes full of deep emotion. "Your place in my heart is irreplaceable. Between Natasha and me... I don’t want to hurt you because of this. You’re the most important person in my life."
As he said this,
the faces of both Natasha and Jenny appeared in Feng Mountain’s mind.
’I have to admit, Natasha is undoubtedly intelligent and wise.’
’Her pride seems innate, etched deep into her bones; she never bows her head to anyone easily.’
’Even when facing me, her eyes would sometimes reveal a sense of contempt and pressure, as if some invisible force was constantly reminding her of the bonds to her long-perished family.’
’But Jenny is like the first ray of sunshine on a spring morning—gentle and warm.’
’She’s like a babbling brook, always considerate of others. No matter what happens, she remains calm and comforts those around her with gentle words.’
’She asks for nothing in return, only giving silently.’
’With her love and care, she creates a warm haven for the people around her.’
Feng Mountain couldn’t help but sigh to himself.
’What have I, an ex-con, ever done to deserve the affection of two such outstanding women at the same time?’
SIGH!!
Feng Mountain silently furrowed his brow. The troubles in his heart were a tangled mess that he couldn’t seem to sort out.
Sensing her lover’s distress, Jenny gently rested her head on his chest, quietly feeling his strong heartbeat, as if drawing strength from it while also offering her own comfort.
Her voice was as gentle as a breeze.
"Don’t worry. I really don’t ask for much, just to always be by your side. If there’s ever a day you don’t need me anymore, just be honest and tell me. I’ll leave quietly."
"What nonsense are you talking about!"
Hearing this, Feng Mountain felt an inexplicable anger rise within him.
His heart ached that Jenny was being so timid, and he was even angrier that she would entertain such a thought.
He immediately scooped Jenny up in his arms, strode toward the recently tidied wooden bed, and said, feigning anger.
"I’m going to punish you tonight! You have to learn an ancient Chinese poem called ’Ode to the Goose’!"
AWOOO!!
Squashed between them, Little Mira let out a cry of protest.
Her round little eyes were full of grievance as her small body wriggled, trying to escape her squished predicament.
Feng Mountain was in no mood to bother with her.
He grabbed Little Mira by the scruff of her neck with a motion as practiced as if he did it a thousand times a day.
He slid open the window and tossed Little Mira out without a moment’s hesitation.
Having been forced to get used to this treatment, Little Mira could only dejectedly crawl into a corner by the cabin steps and curl up into a pathetic ball.
...
「A polar night morning.」
Darkness lay like a heavy curtain, draped over the vast Far North Tundra.
The sky had a deep blue hue, like a frozen ocean, devoid of any trace of life or vitality.
