Landlord in the Arctic

Chapter 742: Chapter 467: Invitation (2)
"Alright! It might take me ten hours to get there." Hearing the Elder Chief say this, Feng Mountain knew it would be inappropriate to refuse again. Left with no choice, he had to agree to go.
"Spirits above, are you in the United States? Why would it take ten hours?" The Elder Chief’s surprised voice came through the receiver, thick with astonishment.
"I’m flying a Cub, pal. It’s slow."
Feng Mountain replied helplessly. The implication was clear: a small plane like his had limited speed, and the long flight would require refueling stops, naturally extending the travel time.
"I’ll contact Jeff. You fly to Fairbanks first. This is extremely urgent. You must get to Juno today." Chief Welta spoke very quickly and hung up before Feng Mountain could respond.
Listening to the dial tone from his phone, Feng Mountain couldn’t help but give a wry smile.
’Everyone is giving me a gift?’
’Who is everyone?’
He suddenly recalled that strange phone call from Jeff a few days ago.
’Something about a meeting. I didn’t pay much attention at the time.’
’Could the two be related?’
Less than a minute later, his phone rang again.
This time, it was Jeff.
The moment he answered, Jeff’s anxious voice came through the phone. "Feng, the Petroleum is ready for takeoff. Just fly your plane directly to Fairbanks International Airport and land. We’ve arranged everything here. I’ll pick you up after you deplane."
It seemed the matter was truly urgent.
Feng Mountain didn’t dawdle. He exchanged a few pleasantries with Old Li, telling him that something had come up and he had to go to Fairbanks and might be gone for a while.
Then he asked Sam to drive him back to the makeshift airfield.
Arriving at the airfield, Feng Mountain quickly boarded the Carnation.
As the engine roared to life, the plane slowly taxied to the runway, then soared into the sky, heading toward Fairbanks.
「An hour later.」
The tower at Fairbank International Airport, which had already received the message, guided the Carnation by radio to a landing on a private runway.
Feng Mountain had just stepped off the plane
when he was whisked away by a shuttle van that was already waiting and taken to the Petroleum, which was ready on the tarmac.
Since Feng Mountain had poached Mova, the Petroleum now had a new, blonde, blue-eyed chief flight attendant.
It was unclear if Jeff had arranged it privately
or if this new chief flight attendant knew that her predecessor had been successfully "brought ashore" by the man before her.
Throughout the flight, she made numerous overt and covert attempts to seduce Feng Mountain.
At one point, while serving a drink, she intentionally lowered her collar and lingered by his side for a moment, her eyes filled with suggestive hints. A little later, she used her sweet voice to suggest he come sit in the crew cabin.
Although Feng Mountain didn’t explicitly reject her, he covered his eyes with an eye mask,
a subtle way of telling her he wasn’t interested in playing her flirtatious game.
Seeing this, the chief flight attendant
was a bit disappointed, but she knew better than to keep pestering him and temporarily reined in her behavior.
「Two hours later.」
The chief flight attendant quietly approached Feng Mountain’s side, half-knelt, and whispered softly and respectfully, "Mr. Feng, we have arrived in the capital, Juno. It’s 2 PM, and it’s daytime, so you can open the window shade to let your eyes adjust to the light."
’We’re here?’
’So soon.’
Feng Mountain took off his eye mask, pressed the button for his motorized seat, slowly sat up, and checked the time on his phone.
Only two hours had passed since departing from Fairbanks.
And they had already arrived in Juneau City.
It would have taken ten hours to fly the Carnation, but the trip on the Petroleum only took two.
Feng Mountain couldn’t help but sigh with feeling.
’Private jets really are more comfortable.’
He slowly raised the window shade.
In an instant, long-unseen light flooded in like a tide, gently washing over the palm of his hand.
Looking out, the Tundra that had just been slumbering in the polar night was now a lake shimmering with fractured gold.
Caressed by the sunlight, the outlines of the glaciers were etched sharply, yet possessed a unique sort of gentleness.
As the wing’s shadow swept over a vast snowfield, Feng Mountain was delighted to see wisps of green from lichen stubbornly peeking through the edges of the melting snow.
The sunlight wasn’t intense; elsewhere, it might have been considered mere soft daylight.
But for Feng Mountain, long accustomed to the gloom of the polar night and its brief, fog-like days,
even this slightly dim daytime felt like a rare treasure.
Looking back,
the last vestiges of the polar night’s deep blue were slowly retreating toward the distant Polaris.
Ahead, the sky was so clear it felt like you could see the shape of the wind. An endless expanse of crystalline blue was dotted with white clouds floating like cotton candy, light and free.
"You’re very lucky, Mr. Feng. It’s a rare clear day in Juneau City," the chief flight attendant said with a smile as she used the remote to slowly raise all the cabin’s window shades.
In an instant, bright sunlight poured in unhindered.
The cabin was immediately bathed in a warm, golden glow.
As the Petroleum flew on, the scenery below was like a flowing scroll painting, constantly changing.
Snow-capped mountains, glaciers, bays, forests, and lakes flashed past in succession.
Occasionally, he could see small towns and villages with wisps of cooking smoke rising, adding a touch of worldly life to the tranquil land.
Feng Mountain sat by the oversized window, quietly admiring the unique scenery of Alaska’s capital city.
Gazing into the distance, his eyes were met with a continuous mountain range, completely covered in ice and snow, resembling a slumbering dragon lying across the land.
And there was the Mendenhall Glacier, like a colossal blue-and-white shield, stretching majestically across the horizon. It reflected a mysterious and captivating blue shimmer under the sun, a testament to the passage of time and the magnificent power of nature.
At the edge of the Mendenhall Glacier lay Juneau City, built between the mountains and the sea.
The city’s low-rise buildings were scattered along the winding coastline. Their metal roofs and wooden exteriors were mostly covered with patchy snow, which, under the rare sunlight, glinted with a dusty, cold light, giving off a rustic and slightly weathered feel.
In the harbor, rusty fishing boats and ferries were moored quietly, icicles clinging to their ropes and swaying gently in the wind.
To be honest, as the capital of Alaska, Juno was not what one might expect.
In terms of area alone, the capital wasn’t even as large as Fairbanks, let alone the much larger Anchorage City.
And in terms of population, Juno was only third.
It was a far cry from the scale and prosperity one would expect from a state capital.
However, despite not matching other cities in size, Juno possessed its own unique charm—a distinctive flavor blending natural beauty with a human touch that was undeniably captivating.
The Petroleum slowly descended over Juneau International Airport and landed smoothly on the runway.
The chief flight attendant accompanied Feng Mountain down the airstairs. He immediately spotted Jeff standing beside a black Chevrolet Silverado Pickup Truck, smiling.
’It’s Mr. Jeff.’
’The most powerful director on the company’s executive board.’
Looking at his Indigenous face, the chief flight attendant’s smile grew even sweeter.
’Too bad Mr. Feng ignored my advances.’
"Pal, what on earth is so important that you had me drop everything and rush over here?" Feng Mountain quickened his pace, gave Jeff a warm hug with open arms, and then asked in confusion.
Jeff didn’t answer directly. Instead, with a mysterious smile, he said in a peculiar way, "A surprise, a responsibility, and a seat of power!"
Feng Mountain was completely baffled.
He couldn’t figure out what sort of game Elder Chief Welta was playing.
A thought couldn’t help but flash through his mind.
’Don’t tell me they’re trying to wipe out that twenty-million-dollar land use fee!’
"Let’s go. I’ll take you to the hotel first."
Jeff paid no mind to what Feng Mountain was guessing.
The Elder Chief had given him only one task for the past couple of days.
And that was to take care of Feng in every possible way, ensuring he was happy and satisfied.
With that, Jeff opened the door of the Pickup Truck and gestured for Feng Mountain to get in, planning to get him settled at the hotel before slowly revealing the mysterious answer.
The three of them got into the Pickup Truck.
Jeff started the engine and drove away from Juneau International Airport.
