Chapter 471: Chapter 471: Letter To Persephone

Chapter 471 – Letter to Persephone

Cassius was truly disappointed.

There were so many ways he could have used this Potion, so many damned ways, yet the System had thought it better to give it to someone else.

The System’s nerve was truly irritating.

Ananke, Marvela and Tysche looked at their Blessed and smiled wryly, understanding.

They had been quite surprised when reading the descriptions of the Potion, and even the Couriel, not expecting such incredible rewards.

Either of these two items was something people would die for. Hell, even they, as goddesses, would be deeply interested in them.

So if Cassius decided to put them up in his own Auction House, no one would be able to offer anything of equal value.

Thus, his anger at being denied such a tool, one that could literally save his life, was... understandable.

"Tell me who you gave it to, at least," he muttered in a disappointed tone, addressing the System.

He got no answer.

Cassius knew the System could hear him and even talk to him. So this was a deliberate act of ignoring his existence. An act that told him it was useless to tire himself out over this matter.

It was already done. It could no longer be changed.

And if he tried really hard to look on the bright side, Cassius could say that if one of his closest ones had this Potion, then maybe it was not too bad.

Yes...

’Not too bad,’ he thought, his hand on his chest as if his heart were aching, trying hard to convince himself.

[Come on, darling.] Marvela said, suppressing a laugh at seeing Cassius so dejected. [You gained many things from this encounter. Don’t be like this just because you didn’t get one thing.]

[And look at the Couriel.] Ananke added, ruffling the hair of the pouting Cassius. [I personally think it’s the most important one. Do you realize, Cass? You can send anything to any god whose real name you know. That’s huge.]

"But send what..." His voice trailed off as his eyes snapped wide open.

His disappointed aura was soon burned away as a fever-like excitement took hold of him. "Wait, I do have the Underwear of Persephone, don’t I?"

Marvela’s lips twitched irritably at that name. [Yes,] she said, narrowing her eyes at Cassius. [So what? Don’t tell me you plan to send it back to her?]

"Why not?" Cassius jumped to his feet, grinning. His left eye had returned to normal. "The Description said that Persephone would be delighted and happy to have the Underwear returned to her. What if I send it in a Couriel, with the condition that, to open it and obtain the underwear, she becomes... my ally? I mean, we do need to create our Pantheon at this point. We have three goddesses and everything we need, but one more goddess can’t hurt, can it?"

[That sounds like a good idea to me.] Tysche said.

[Shut up, you.] Ananke rolled her eyes at her sister. [Everything sounds like a good idea to you anyway.]

[Sister, what is your problem with me? Do you want to fight me, maybe?]

Marvela ignored the bickering sisters and shook her head. [Have you ever wondered why this Underwear is so precious to her?]

"Does it matter?" Cassius shrugged.

[Of course it does!] she bellowed. [This Underwear was given to her by Adonis himself. You don’t understand, Cass. Some gods and goddesses were already starting to believe that Persephone worshipped that Underwear because of how much she... loved it.]

Marvela’s face twisted as she realized that everything she had just said only proved why Cassius should use this Underwear. And she could see it on his face.

There was no going back. Cassius had decided.

And for once, his decision was not a stupid one, though it was quite risky, as no one knew how Persephone would react.

Still, he used it.

He summoned the Couriel for the Gods, which took the shape of a golden envelope.

Inside the envelope was a small blank parchment on which Cassius could write the Letter accompanying the Couriel, stating the conditions to open it.

He sat on the ground, his three goddesses, or mothers if you prefer, circling him. Marvela was truly not pleased.

Among all the goddesses she had been sharing Adonis with, Persephone was among those she hated the most, alongside Aphrodite and Freyja.

These three deserved death, and the worst torture.

To think that Cassius would ask one of them to join them was ridiculous, yet she could understand him.

They needed allies. And that need had become even more apparent after the new information he had shared with them.

’Sigh. I should have killed these three bitches when I could. What if my darling wants to take them all into the Pantheon? I will certainly lose my mind.’

Too late, however.

Her darling had already begun writing the letter.

So she leaned in further, curious despite her dissatisfaction, and watched him write it.

"Alright," Cassius muttered, breathing softly, and the hand holding the pen began to move.

<I would have loved to begin by introducing myself, for I certainly have many things to say about who I am, but I shall spare you the boredom of all that, dear Persephone.

This Couriel has a rather simple purpose, and that is to inform you that within it lies the one thing you would give anything to possess again. The very thing once given to you by a man you loved so dearly that you were even willing to share him with other goddesses.

However, as you can probably imagine, I am not quite so charitable. There is a price to pay, and the question is whether you are willing, dear Reluctant Queen of the Underworld, to pay it.

And, gentle and understanding as I am, I have been kind enough to divide the price into three options.

You need only choose one of them to open this Couriel.

Now...

If you are unhappy with your Pantheon and feel that you have been discarded, you are more than welcome to come to me. I shall gladly welcome you and tell you the hidden story of that man you loved so dearly.

If, however, you believe leaving your Pantheon is no simple matter, and such a decision would put you in a delicate position, then you may remain among them. All I ask in return is your loyalty, and the assurance that when the time comes, you will stand with me.

And if neither of the two conditions above suits you, then I shall simply ask for your Blessing.

That is my final offer.

The decision, of course, remains entirely yours. But know that if you do not answer within seven days, according to the mortal timeline, to be precise, this Couriel will disappear, and you will forever lose the gift left behind by that... man.

You wouldn’t want that, would you?

I sincerely hope you make the choice that is best for you.

Sincerely yours,

TheHandsomeOne.>

After writing it, Cassius summoned the Underwear of Persephone, placed it inside the golden envelope, and sealed it.

He set the timer to 7 days, after which the Couriel would return to him if Persephone didn’t choose.

Cassius then raised his eyes to his goddesses. He nodded at them, and they returned the nod with steady eyes.

It seemed they were ready to welcome a new member.

With his mothers’ approval, the Last Born sent the Couriel, which in turn disappeared into a hidden fold of space, heading straight to Persephone.

Cassius then sighed, stretching his body and letting out blissful cracks that made him moan with pleasure.

A moan so loud that his goddesses stared at him blankly, their lips twitching.

[I guess you miss your wife.] Tysche said with a cocky grin, and Cassius’s face flushed red with embarrassment.

Ananke slapped Tysche on the back of the head. And Lady Luck would have jumped on her sister if not for Marvela holding her back.

[Argh! I will get you back, Ananke! I swear!]

The Queen of Fate ignored her with a mocking smirk, arms crossed.

Cassius coughed, drawing their attention back to him. "All that’s left is to wait for an answer now. I hope it comes fast."

The goddesses focused.

[None of the three options are easy ones.] Tysche remarked. [Each of them demands that she invest herself in us.]

[I guess that’s the whole point.] Ananke nodded.

Marvela only clicked her tongue.

Cassius chuckled. He looked one last time at the Echo of Desdemona, memorized the location, and thought about asking Nafissatou for more information about the First Seat, The Dreamer.

After that, whining one last time over the lost Potion, Cassius bid farewell to his goddesses and returned to his wife’s side, by which time night had fully fallen.

Isolde Amaris was not pleased with her husband, and she made sure to show it.

Cassius knew instantly that the night was going to be long.

"I am so tired."

...

Meanwhile, inside the Underworld, sitting on a black throne shrouded in darkness, was the most fearsome woman in the whole Underworld.

The Queen herself, Persephone, holding a golden envelope in her hand.

All around her, wails and agonized sobs boomed relentlessly.

However, none of it registered in Persephone’s mind — she had been in a terrible mood lately because of her weakening Authority, courtesy of that bastard Vorn and his schemes — as she read the letter that had come with the golden envelope over and over again.

Her lips trembled slightly, her eyes wide, as realization dawned on her. She parted her lips and muttered, with longing and love and pain,

"Adonis...?"
