SUMMARY
A fun and comedic twist of the powerhouse MC genre I like, with some of my own Australian colloquialisms and way of thinking/speaking.
Tobin Marsh is Level 1. The Ledger says so. The Ledger has also exploded twice.
For seventeen years, Tobin has killed the “big rats” that crawl out of the crack in his barn floor, using his grandad’s meat cleaver and a bit of common sense. He stamps twice on the boards afterwards, just like Dad did. He sells the pretty glowing rocks he finds inside them to a pedlar for eleven coppers, and uses the rest to prop the chicken-shed door open.
The rats are calamity-tier monsters. The rocks are worth four thousand crowns each. And the Ledger of levels only counts to 999.
Tobin unknowingly went past that a while ago. It wrapped back around to 1.
When a rigged land tax demands 200 gold by first frost, Tobin walks to the capital to join the Adventurers’ Guild. They laugh at him. Then they send him into the sewers to die.
He comes back with the rat’s ear and an apology for the mess.
Now the Guild’s auditor is crying into her ledger. A vampire countess bit him once and won’t stop “studying” him. An orc warlord got slapped unconscious and has declared him her husband under treaty law. The princess hired him as a disposable decoy and is reconsidering the “disposable” part. Something under his barn has knocked for seventeen years and would really like a rematch. And nobody but Tobin can lift that cleaver.
He has a perfectly reasonable explanation for it. “It’s heavy. You get used to it.”
What you’re in for:
The lightest LitRPG you’ll ever read. There are levels, the main character is Level 1, and that’s about all you need to remember. No stat sheets, no skill trees, no spreadsheet homework.
An overpowered MC who isn’t dumb. He’s a sensible farmer reasoning from a wrong starting point, and the comedy is everyone else losing their minds around him.
A harem of competent women. An auditor, a vampire, an orc warlord, a princess and a thing from under the floor, each one powerful in her own right and none of them the punchline. Slow burn.
Real stakes, played straight. When the people he loves are in danger, the jokes stop.
One continuous story with regular updates overseen by a moody cow named Duchess.
