Chapter 250: Chapter 249: Something Is Off About This Submission

"In any case, I don’t know much about the ’Supreme Ones’ either. I just believe they truly exist."

As the butler was speaking, he caught sight of Lloyd’s mournful and worried expression out of the corner of his eye and couldn’t help but ask:

"What’s with that look on your face?"

"Sigh... I’m just worried. These ’Supreme Ones’ sound even more powerful than Saints. What if one day they suddenly decide to turn on humanity?"

Lloyd answered honestly.

This wasn’t entirely needless worry. After all, he was currently pulling a scam, using the ’Supreme Ones’ name as a bluff. It would be one thing if humans saw through his deception, but if a genuine Supreme One found out...

’A man who doesn’t worry about the future will soon have worries in the present.’

"Can’t you... think of something more positive?"

"I’ve always been a young man of great vision who thinks long-term. Besides, all the books I read have plots like this."

"You’ve been reading too many pulp novels, haven’t you?"

The butler didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He shook his head and added:

"If such beings truly decided to become our enemies, we wouldn’t need to worry, because worrying would be pointless. Humanity is far too weak and insignificant before them. It’s like... if you decided to pour boiling water on an ant, what could the ant possibly do to you?"

"That’s true..."

"So, you really should read less of those trashy pulp novels. Any plot about all of humanity uniting to fight a Supreme One is nothing but a delusion."

"How come it sounds like you’re very familiar with the plots of these books?"

"Of course I am. I loved reading them when I was young, and even now that I’m older, I still pick one up from time to time. I have to say, the imagination of today’s writers is much better than in my day. The plots are far more exciting, too."

’The butler actually admitted it so frankly?’

But he immediately changed his tune and advised:

"Ahem... Still, you should read less of them. You haven’t reached Tier Five yet, so your time is precious. You should focus on improving yourself and try to complete your fifth Transcendence while your body is still young."

"Okay, I definitely won’t let you down."

"Good. But you must remember: no matter what circumstances you face, what events you experience, or what accomplishments you achieve, never, ever abandon your identity as a human."

The butler’s tone suddenly became earnest as he added this piece of advice.

Lloyd paused, slightly stunned. He couldn’t help but think of that deranged Advisor.

That great demon was so ferocious, and his true body had mutated into a mass of threadworms, yet he still refused to give up his human identity.

’Although Lloyd didn’t know why, and the butler didn’t explain in detail, he believed it must be something incredibly important and uniquely significant, right?’

By the time the butler dropped Lloyd off at his apartment building, it was already evening.

They said a simple goodbye, like friends who would see each other the next day, and the butler’s car disappeared around the corner.

From start to finish, he never told Lloyd what he was going to do next, nor did he mention when they might meet again.

Lloyd quickly ran upstairs. The moment he opened the door, he saw his sister, dressed in cartoon crocodile pajamas, throw herself into his arms.

She said with a joyous look on her face:

"Hee hee, Yi, you’re finally back!"

"Mhm! I’m back."

Lloyd said, tightly hugging his sister’s petite frame.

He then saw the little kitten wiggling over quickly, so he picked up the little furball and gave it a few good squishes.

"How did things go? Were you able to help Mr. Butler?"

"Everything went smoothly!"

"That’s good. I bought dinner; it’s on the table. Yi, you should eat first."

So, Lloyd ate his dinner while telling Evelor about his experiences over the past three days.

Although they had been three ordinary and relatively uneventful days, he couldn’t resist embellishing the story and making things up. He added all sorts of thrilling and exciting details to the tales of the three powerful figures, making Evelor jump at every turn.

"What a wonderful story! Yi, why don’t you write it down and submit it to my magazine?"

"Er... I’d better not."

Lloyd said, feeling a little guilty, then changed the subject.

"How have you been these past few days, Sis? Is the magazine office still busy?"

"Well... I have to think about how to explain it to you..."

Evelor put on a slightly troubled expression. Cradling the Hammerhead Shark Puppet in her arms, she began to tell Lloyd about what was bothering her.

To put it simply, the magazine had been thriving, doing better and better. Each issue’s sales were higher than the last.

But Evelor had been staying with Miss Desda for the past three days, and when she mentioned her success, Desda was... unimpressed.

In Miss Desda’s opinion, while the magazine was improving, it was happening far too slowly. It was still a long way from becoming a bestseller.

If they just kept plugging away slowly like this, when would they ever make it big?

So, she decisively chose to pump in more investment!

In just three short days, the magazine’s staff multiplied several times over. Evelor was promoted directly from Editor-in-Chief to Chief Editor, managing three new senior editors and a chaotic mess of over thirty other staff members.

These new people had also run a similar folklore magazine in the past, but it hadn’t done well and they’d pivoted to a food magazine. When Miss Desda found out, she took out some pocket money and bought the whole company on the spot...

In her words, you need more people to create efficiency and value.

In short, Evelor’s plan to build up the magazine through her own hard work had been ruthlessly shattered by her best friend.

Evelor had wanted to refuse, but legally and in terms of equity, Miss Desda was the magazine’s true owner...

"Anyway, with our magazine’s current sales, we don’t need this many people at all. My schedule, which used to be packed, is suddenly wide open because of Miss Desda. Now she just drags me around to hang out with her."

Evelor concluded with a helpless look on her face.

After hearing this, Lloyd didn’t know whether to roast her or comfort her.

"Er... you’re actually worried about something like this? Why don’t you try having a serious talk with Miss Desda first?"

"I’ll hang out with her for a few more days first, okay? I’ll find a chance to have a proper talk with her."

After saying that, Evelor shook her head vigorously as if to fling the worries from her mind. Then she picked up a few manuscripts from the sofa and beckoned to Lloyd.

"These are some submissions I haven’t had a chance to read yet. Yi, why don’t you go take a shower, then come and read them with your big sis, okay?"

"Okay!"

Lloyd agreed and went into the bathroom. When he came out, he had changed into his Hammerhead Shark pajamas.

Then, the brother and sister squeezed together on the sofa and began reading these so-called ’submissions she hadn’t had a chance to read’.

Lloyd had expected some kind of scary horror story, but after reading the beginning, he realized it was actually a romance.

And a taboo sibling romance, at that.

It described a brother and sister who were very close as children. But after they grew up and lived apart for work, their relationship gradually faded, and they only contacted each other a few times a year.

Then one day, the brother suddenly received a letter from his sister. But the letter was written by their father, informing him that he was to attend his sister’s funeral...

The brother was overcome with grief and rushed home. But at the funeral, he encountered a supernatural event.

His sister had come back to life?

And had turned into a Ghost that only he could see?

After a series of farcical events that left him not knowing whether to laugh or cry, the brother gradually got used to his sister floating in mid-air and took her back to his home.

The sister discovered that her brother had been living alone all these years, hadn’t found a girlfriend, and was very lonely. So she began to take care of him meticulously every day, treating him with warmth and consideration.

Living together day in and day out, they recalled the happy times of their childhood. Their feelings for each other quickly deepened, gradually heading in an unnatural direction.

The story ended there for now, with the final scene frozen in the moment the brother and sister almost kissed.

"Yi... what do you think?"

Evelor asked in a very soft voice, curling up her petite body and hugging her knees.

Lloyd glanced down and saw a hint of sadness on his sister’s cute face. ’What in the world is she thinking?’

’Did she put herself in the characters’ shoes? Does she feel sorry for the siblings in the story?’

’Or maybe she’s repulsed by the unnatural feelings between the siblings in the story?’

’After all, a brother and sister are just a brother and sister. There shouldn’t be any other, unnecessary feelings between them.’

Thinking this, Lloyd froze for a moment. Then he quickly looked up and said:

"It’s written pretty well, I guess? I think it’s not bad, but there’s no way a story like this could be published, right?"

"Hee hee, so Yi likes these kinds of delicate, emotional stories too? You’re right, it can’t be published. I just really liked it, so I brought it home."

As Evelor spoke, her beautiful, emerald-green eyes narrowed slightly, and a seductive smile graced the corners of her lips. In an instant, she transformed from her usual innocent and cute self into someone mature and bewitching.

She added in a soft, breathy voice:

"Yi, if something ever happens to your big sis, I hope we can be like the two in the story and stay together forever."

"No way, that won’t happen! I’ll never let anything like that happen! I’ll always protect you, Sis!"

Lloyd quickly replied, full of conviction.

"Hee hee, then you’d better keep your word, Yi."

As she spoke, Evelor snuggled forcefully against Lloyd’s chest. She then closed her eyes, listened to her brother’s heartbeat with her pointed ears, and her smile grew even sweeter.

She was probably happy because she felt like she could hear his true feelings this way.
