Chapter 338: Chapter 311: They Aren’t Talking About Us, Are They?

’Ah... he just left like that?’

Lloyd was left alone on the tower’s rooftop. The cold wind whipping around him felt empty and lonely.

’Could it be that there’s really no more Forbidden Knowledge?’ he couldn’t help but wonder.

But he immediately shook his head.

’That’s obviously impossible. The Twisted System here may be in decline now, but it must have had a strong foundation in the past. It was even able to conduct those ’Pseudo-Saint’ experiments. Their accumulated knowledge can’t possibly be limited to just those ten pages of Forbidden Knowledge.’

’Is it just that Professor Hazled has his own reasons, so he’s not willing to share any more?’

’Maybe it’s because of the lesson from that Mage? He might want me to be more grounded, to slow down, to let things sink in?’

Lloyd felt his speculation was probably correct.

’So, in that case, is class over for today? Am I dismissed? Can I go home?’

Lloyd took out the Synchronized Hourglass and checked the time in the outside world.

’Not even a few hours have passed...’

’Oh well. I’ll just assign my points first, then find a place to review what I’ve learned today.’

Lloyd took the Attribute points he had just gained and assigned 5 to Spiritual Power and 5 to Cognition, raising both Attributes to 290.

He nodded in satisfaction, then descended the stairs and left the tower, savoring the knowledge he had just acquired.

This method of being able to Twist the very form of an object’s existence was just too enticing. He didn’t have the mental energy to think about any other trivial details.

...

In a vast, empty space that resembled both a theater and a dueling arena, dazzling lights cast an extremely ostentatious glow on the surroundings.

It was encircled by rows of theater-style stands, perfect for an audience to enjoy whatever show was put on here.

At the highest point sat a table resembling a referee’s bench, laid out with all the equipment needed for a ring fight: a scoreboard, an alarm clock, a record player, and even the odds for outside betting.

In the referee’s seat, a quill and a sheet of parchment floated in midair. The quill moved on its own, writing line after line of text onto the paper:

"To my student, Hildina:

It has been a long time since our last correspondence, even by the real world’s measure of time. All is well with me here; I still remember that I am human.

The student you recommended has been successfully enrolled. He has demonstrated an astonishing talent, one that is not inferior to yours. Even I am amazed...

But at the same time, I am filled with curiosity. Is this boy even human?

That old fellow, Lawrence, believes him to be a supernatural creature possessing human Cognition, or perhaps a relic from a precursor civilization.

He says we can treat him and interact with him as a human, but we should not be surprised or shocked by anything he might do.

At first, I thought the old fellow was just too absorbed in his research and hadn’t seen enough of the world. But after personally teaching the boy today, even I am starting to believe Lawrence’s assessment...

This boy has a resistance to Spiritual Contamination on par with a Saint. For him, reading Forbidden Knowledge is as natural and simple as breathing.

He finished two months’ worth of lessons I had prepared in just two short hours, and his mental state was completely unaffected.

I have no choice but to reformulate my teaching plan and filter the Forbidden Knowledge for him all over again. This is very hard work, especially for me. I haven’t personally taught a student in many, many, many years...

But if he keeps up this pace, perhaps in two months, *he* will be the professor teaching *me*...

This is simply too astonishing, too unbelievable. It was enough to cause a minor tremor in my own Cognition.

But thankfully, I managed to readjust in time, so there’s no major issue. You don’t need to worry.

So... just where did you find this fellow? Or should I say, this supernatural creature? Or this precursor civilization’s relic?"

The writing had filled the entire page. Another blank sheet floated over, and the quill began to write on it once more:

"However... besides the shock, this boy has brought me even more surprise and relief!

The hope that human civilization has been so desperately waiting for may lie with him.

He can become a Saint. He definitely can!

As you know, I’ve never put much faith in those [prophecies] from Astra. I have always firmly believed that humanity has a future, has hope, and that it is held in our own hands!

It’s just that we need to find that key, that crossroads, or that last straw...

Perhaps it is [Twist], perhaps it is [Space], perhaps it is [Magic], or perhaps it is [prophecy].

But no matter what, we cannot abandon hope and accept that so-called [Destiny].

So you, too, must hold on, my most brilliant student! My final pride!

Alright, I seem to have unconsciously brought up a topic we’ve rehashed many times over the years. It seems even I am showing some symptoms of a rambling old man.

Well, I should get back to filtering more Forbidden Knowledge for Lloyd. The boy is like a sponge that can’t be saturated; he’s giving me a headache.

And so, I hope you are still able to read this letter from me.

Your Mentor and friend, Hazled."

After the final words were written, the letter folded itself, slipped into a wax-sealed envelope, and the entire thing burst into flames, vanishing into thin air in an instant.

The dazzling lights around the theater then went out, returning the space to darkness and silence.
