Chapter 23: Shadow

Leon came in to meet his brand-new PC setup already inside, as well as all the clothes that he had bought. He had given an extra key to the people that would deliver it, and when they were done, they slid it under the door for him.

He looked at all the boxes that were lying there. This was something that he had never expected to see in his life, having such money to spend on things like this.

"It still feels like a dream," he muttered in disbelief. Then he walked in and sat down on his chair. He did not take out the PC from the boxes because he had already set his mind on renting a place soon enough, a place where he would have enough space to ensure that he could work even more effectively.

He turned on his PC and immediately went to Viper’s page, and just like the system had predicted, it was growing rapidly, and he was now worth millions because of the most organisation.

"Seems everything is working out."

He muttered with a bright smile on his face. Every investment was bringing major returns, and everything was flowing smoothly. But even then, he could not shake off a certain feeling that was bugging him, especially after someone had trailed him today.

He was a nobody who had suddenly grown to become rich overnight. No one was going to accept that easily. They would try to discover who he was and know the secret to his wealth. Leon did not want anyone to look into his past and his life. He also wanted to ensure that he kept himself safe.

He could purchase a lot of things that could protect him, but all of that could be tracked to the companies. He needed things that no one could track, and nothing else provided that aside from the system and the black market. As of now, he did not know how to use the black market, so he was going to use the system to protect himself.

He looked at the screen. A bit had changed about it.

"I have over five hundred thousand credits in cashback? I’ve not even taken out all my gains from the platform."

Even if he never took out the money from any of his investments, he still had half a million sitting there, and he could transfer it to his bank at any time and enjoy that. There was also the SP, which he could use in the now-open system shop.

"The system gave me a rebirth pill. I’m sure that it’s from the shop. I wonder how much they cost."

He opened up the system shop to see it, and when his eyes landed on the pill, he froze.

The pill that he had so casually taken had cost that much. But when you considered the changes he had gone through because of it, it was not crazy.

"I guess I can’t get that, but I should be able to get a few other things."

He started scrolling through the shop, looking for something that could defend him. He searched and searched through the skills department, but nothing out of the hundreds and thousands caught his attention, and the ones that did were all pretty expensive.

Everything was pretty much ranked either from F to SSS, then Epic and Mythic, or it was ranked from low grade to divine grade.

As he kept searching, he suddenly came across something, a skill. It was discounted for only half an hour, which meant that if he had not been here at this very moment, he would have missed it.

He read the last line from the system. He felt that the system knew his SP balance and had chosen to make this discount for him. If he did not take this now, he might never get it. After all, it cost a whopping ten million.

Leon gritted his teeth. He was about to spend all his SP, but he was sure that it would be worth it. It would be a great investment for sure.

"Yes, buy it."

The moment it was bought, he felt a surge rush through his body, and then he saw his shadow get darker and rise slowly until it stood eye to eye with him like a man. He looked down, and it was barely even connected to him anymore.

The shadow opened its eyes, two glowing red eyes. It stayed motionless for a few seconds. Feeling curious, he stretched out his hands to touch the shadow. It went through, but even then, it felt as if he was pushing through something.

"That’s quite ticklish," the shadow suddenly commented, having exactly the same voice as Leon. Leon stepped back in shock and looked at the shadow. It tilted its head slightly and smiled at him.

"You can talk?"

"Of course I can."
