Longevity: Starting as a Sect Servant
Chapter 998: The Flavor of Mortal Life (Part 2)
Watching him leave, Li Nianxue only sighed softly.
Behind her, An Li had appeared at some point.
“It seems that the Supreme has truly lost his power, even for a mere Spirit Realm, he needs to rely on an array.”
An Li sighed.
“Are you watching the Supreme?”
Li Nianxue’s face suddenly turned cold as she glared at An Li, her beautiful eyes reflecting a hint of icy chill.
“I’m just worried about his safety.”
An Li calmly revealed, “Don’t forget, he’s the only one who can break the sacrifice ceremony of Yunluo Immortal Venerable and is the only hope. If people find out, he’ll never have peace, and might even provoke Yunluo Immortal Venerable to personally kill him.”
Li Nianxue said faintly, “But don’t forget, the Supreme has already tried his best. He has sacrificed enough for all living beings, for the Dao Sect, and now his power has even fallen so low.”
“He also said that he doesn’t want to die, he wants to live.”
An Li was silent for a long time before replying, “Indeed.”
He seemed to hesitate for a long time before finally speaking to Li Nianxue, “I have dispatched Li Qingran, Fen Yuan, and Thunder Vibration, the three of them, to secretly follow Li Supreme.”
Li Nianxue’s brows instantly furrowed, her sword was already unsheathed, directly pointing at An Li, she said, “Do you want to make a move on the Supreme? Do you want to kill him to save all living beings?!”
An Li’s face showed pain, he said, “This is indeed a painful decision, on one side of the balance are Li Supreme and all living beings, no matter how you choose, it is destined to betray the Dao Sect…”
“Nianxue, younger sister, your greatest dream once was to restore the Dao Sect. Can you bear to watch the Dao Sect’s legacy be cut off, for entire worlds, entire moments in time, to turn to dust?”
“But how can you harbor murderous intent towards the Supreme?”
Li Nianxue simply countered.
…
Light flickered.
Li An finally appeared in the southern edge of the Spirit Realm.
Here, back when the major forces of the Spirit Realm were thriving and had not yet been disturbed by the Immortal Realm, it had been called the New Continent.
The New Continent was formed by the major forces merging many lower realms into a new continent, of which the Emperor Origin Realm was one.
Li An walked across the land calmly, wielding the powers of the Immortal Level, which was enough in this Spirit Realm. Before long, he was already present amidst a verdant mountain range.
Even though Li An was sure he had not made a mistake, upon seeing the changes in the mountain range before him, he still spent a long time recognizing it.
The former lands of Profound Yang Sect had arrived.
But after great changes to the land, that small Core Formation Stage force had long disappeared into the stream of history.
After Tan Qingxue perished, Li An had become the only person in the world who remembered the Profound Yang Sect.
As he stepped into the forest, insects and birds scattered in flight, foxes and rabbits appeared, there was really no trace of the old paths to travel anymore. He extended his Divine Sense, searched for a long time, and finally dug out some broken bricks and tiles from hundreds of meters underground, but even those were crumbling like dust.
He also arrived at the position of Spirit Plant Mountain. While the general outline remained, weeds and trees overgrew. Of the former Spirit Fields, Spiritual Qi had long dissipated. What met the eye were only weeds covered in desolation, and the graves he once set up here had truly vanished without a trace.
Even though thousands of years had passed, Li An still remembered those two pitiful souls on the path of cultivating immortality, Wang Zilin and Zhang Susu.
But as thousands of years passed, what was truly different? The oppressor of them, Fan Jie, as well as the high and mighty sect leaders and elders of Profound Yang Sect at the time, all returned to the earth, leaving all matters to rest.
Furthermore, when placed into the longer river of history, the Great Li Dynasty, the Demon Race, Spirit Realm Dao Sect, and even the famous mountains and Holy Lands above the thirty-three heavens, the Celestial Palace Realm, and figures like Daluo Golden Immortal, Evergreen Immortal Venerable, what do they amount to?
Who remembers that longevity seeker who once dominated an era and buried a span of time? Only Li An and Shangguan Xiaoxiao know some of his powerful yet tragic life.
All is bygone.
Watching the sights of yesteryear, Li An, in a moment of trance, felt more deeply the power of those three words, time flies, years pass, the flames of civilization keep renewing yet never extinguish.
Every era has its heroes, every epoch its multitude.
Stepping out of the former grounds of Profound Yang, it wasn’t long before he arrived at the place where Qingyang Marketplace had been, the market had long gone, but a small Tier Two Spirit Vein was forming still. Li An found a place with superb scenery and buried Tan Qingxue.
He brought some fresh flowers and placed them before the grave, hesitated a bit, but still erected a stone tablet.
“Grave of Tan Qingxue of the Profound Yang Sect.”
Established by Dao friend Li An.
After completing these tasks, he turned and left, once again searching. After lingering for a long time, he found a small village. To his surprise, this village still existed, the road into the village hadn’t changed much, and the villagers still worked from dawn to dusk.
Just as he and Gu Hong had seen when they first arrived, it seemed time’s power hadn’t visited here.
Entering the small village, Li An searched for a long, long time, until he found a low mound of dirt and in front of it, a long-dead old tree stump.
“Immortal Dao Evergreen, I indeed achieved it.”
Li An sat before the mound of dirt and sighed softly.
This was once a courtyard he and Gu Hong had established, there had been an old pear tree, planted by Gu Hong.
The tree died, and indeed humans also erode away, the mound is just a mound, a grave is merely human attribution to death.
“Before you passed, you feared I would be lonely, but from now on, I will not be lonely.”
To Gu Hong, Li An had everlasting gratitude, for during his weakest times, only Gu Hong provided him with rare safety and trust.
