Chapter 464: Chapter 295: Rebuilding Eden

·

In a daze, the Sea Monster saw his beloved wife being pulled into the arms of a man with a detestable smile. Not only did she not resist, she even laughed with joy, bliss, and coyness. But when she looked at him, the brilliant smile on her face vanished in an instant, replaced by a grim, icy coldness. The words she spoke were like daggers stabbing into his heart, one by one.

"Don’t come looking for me anymore. I am now the slave of Lord Siegfried."

"This is the truth. I’m not your wife anymore. Stop pestering me. I’m afraid Master will misunderstand."

"Even if you are my former husband, I won’t allow you to harm my Master!"

"If you continue to be so stubborn, don’t blame me for disregarding our past. If you dare to attack again, I’ll kill you to prove my loyalty to my Master!"

"NO!!!"

The Sea Monster roared and shot awake. The gray-black tentacles all over its body stood up stiffly, like human hair standing on end. A large amount of mucus secreted from its soft, marine-creature-like skin. It was drenched in a cold sweat, still shaken.

It gasped, breathing heavily. It felt like it had just had an incredibly vivid nightmare, as if it had really happened. The feeling of heartache was so real it hurt, and it lingered deep in its Soul, refusing to fade.

"What’s wrong?" The Siren’s gentle voice came from beside it.

The Sea Monster turned its head. Seeing its wife’s concerned face, it was stunned for a long moment. After a while, it lay back down, stared at the ceiling, and let out a long sigh. "I had a terrible nightmare... In my dream, you didn’t love me anymore. You became the slave of a human, and you were even going to help him kill me."

"How could I ever do that?"

The Siren said seriously, "We are both slaves of Lord Siegfried. Why would I look for a new master? I would never betray our Master."

"That’s why I said it was a nightmare." The Sea Monster didn’t notice anything was wrong.

"Yes, it’s alright. It was just a dream. Don’t worry," the Siren comforted it in a soft voice.

"This is too bizarre..."

Outside the lab’s observation window, Ted muttered under his breath.

Now the Sea Monster had also been brainwashed by Siegfried, joining the Siren as his loyal slaves.

To be honest, Ted had only ever seen this kind of plot—a husband and wife both getting brainwashed—in certain publications from Yingzhou. He never thought he’d see it with his own eyes one day. The shock would last him a whole year.

’I feel like I’m straying further and further down the path of becoming an Evil God...’ Zhou Chen complained internally, then said aloud, "The brainwashing was a success. Senior, is there anything you wanted to ask?"

The dark-faced uncle standing beside them, who had been in a daze, snapped back to reality. He thought for a moment, then shook his head. "No. You guys go ahead and ask."

While they were waiting for the Sea Monster to wake up, Catherine had told Zhou Chen the uncle’s true identity.

Bruce, an extremely common name.

A farmer, an extremely ordinary background.

If things had proceeded normally, this uncle might have remained a poor man who could never get enough to eat or warm clothes to wear until the day he died. But in his twenty-eighth year, the Rebel Army led by Havier launched a war of insurrection to overthrow the North Carolina Government, and his fate was changed forever.

When the Salvation Army passed through Bruce’s village back then, he volunteered to enlist. He explained that he was a bachelor with no family to support, and following the Salvation Army was a way to get a full meal. And so, he became a glorious grunt.

After countless battles, Bruce not only awakened as an Ascender but also advanced to Tier Two and Tier Three with incredible speed. Just three years after awakening, he became a Quasi-Tier Four Ascender. His promotion speed was like a rocket, leaving countless younger Ascenders speechless with amazement.

On the battlefield, Bruce’s military achievements were brilliant and his bravery was unmatched. He once single-handedly wiped out a heavily armed Government Army legion, earning him the title "Armored Tank." He also clashed head-on with Iron-blooded Colonel Jason several times, with no clear victor, and for a time became the pillar of combat power in several war zones.

After the Salvation Army’s uprising failed, Bruce led the surviving soldiers into hiding, evading the Government Army’s pursuit. They remained hidden for over a decade. He gave his all, doing everything in his power to preserve the precious embers of the Salvation Army. In the years that followed, he advanced to Tier Four, becoming one of the current leaders of the Salvation Army.

If the Salvation Army had succeeded back then, Bruce would likely be occupying the position now held by Iron-blooded Colonel Jason—truly second to one and above ten thousand.

But alas, there are no what-ifs.

Now, even with his immense power, Bruce could not easily reveal himself. Doing so would not only invite a fatal disaster upon himself but also bring total annihilation to the Salvation Army.

Taking action this time was already extremely dangerous. Fortunately, Bruce had not used the power of Law, or even any Essence. He had severely wounded the Sea Monster using pure Physical Strength, which wouldn’t trigger any sort of instrumental readings.

However, this incident had caused too big of a commotion. Even though Bruce had been extremely cautious, there was still a risk of exposure—for him, and for Zhou Chen and the others as well.

Tens of thousands of Corrupters had rioted and died. One could only imagine the horror of the uninfected, discovering that the people they knew had all unknowingly become Corrupters. And you didn’t have to be a genius to know that at a critical juncture like this, the North Carolina Government would take this matter extremely seriously once they found out.

For the sake of the bigger picture, they definitely couldn’t stay in Red River City any longer. They had to lay low for a while to avoid exposing the Poisonous Sore Gang and the Salvation Army, which would mean losing a prime opportunity for growth.

To be honest, Zhou Chen respected this senior from the bottom of his heart. With Bruce’s power, he could easily leave North Carolina, become a top dog anywhere he went, and enjoy the kind of divine treatment he’d never experienced in his life. But he didn’t. Instead, he continued to struggle and fight for his ideals.
