Chapter 690: Chapter 434: Ancient Dragon’s Eye

·

Zhou Chen dove into the miasmic sea of clouds and plummeted downwards. The surrounding pale yellow miasma gradually thinned, as if the World’s veil was being lifted layer by layer before his eyes.

Before long, he touched down on a stretch of barren land.

The draconic miasma here was thin, casting a pale yellow filter over the World. While it didn’t severely impede his vision, it blurred the distant scenery, shrouding it in a faint haze that made it difficult to see clearly.

Zhou Chen scanned his surroundings and saw an ivory-like bone about eight hundred meters away, towering into the clouds like a mountain peak. Its length was staggering; he could only see the lower section, while the top was hidden within the layers of miasma.

The bone was covered in deep yellow grime, likely a result of erosion from the miasma over countless years. There were also honeycomb-like structures clinging to it, as densely packed as swollen tumors.

Far in the distance from this ivory-like bone stood another identical one.

’Are these the remains of the Ancient Dragon King?’

Zhou Chen peered into the distance for a while, but with his limited visibility, he could only make out three of the bones after a full scan. Even so, the sight was staggering.

The sheer distance between the bones hinted at how terrifyingly large the creature must have been in life. He was almost certain these were the remains of the Ancient Dragon King. Few creatures on Gaia could possess a body of this scale.

Zhou Chen opened his map and zoomed in as far as it would go to confirm the distance between himself and the location marker.

It was less than twenty meters.

He closed the map and looked around in confusion. This was a barren flatland, utterly devoid of life, with no caves or other places to explore.

’Don’t tell me it’s underground.’ A headache immediately set in for Zhou Chen.

He flew a hundred or two hundred meters into the sky and looked down. As far as he could see, there was only flatland, though he did spot a few more of the ivory-like bones.

"Go higher," Danika’s voice rang in his ear.

Zhou Chen ascended to five hundred meters. By then, visibility had dropped to the point where everything was a blur, and he could no longer see the ground clearly.

He took out his Magic Staff and cast Magic: Vortex Wind Roar.

WHOOOOOSH~~~~~!!!

A violent gale suddenly began to rage. The air currents spun at high speed, swirling and whipping about wildly. In an instant, the spell swept away the surrounding miasma, visibly expanding in all directions to become a storm that scoured the sky clean.

The magical storm blew away the miasma within a ten-kilometer radius. It was as if a great hole had been torn in the sky, allowing warm sunlight to pour through. His vision cleared instantly.

Zhou Chen gazed down and clearly saw the complete carcass of a Giant Dragon. It was a full ten kilometers long, and looking into the distance, part of its body was still hidden within the miasma the storm had not yet touched.

However...

’This isn’t the body of the Ancient Dragon King,’ Zhou Chen murmured.

The Valley of Miasma was a massive Restricted Area in southern Gaia, lethal to all life. The combined landmass of the Volcanic Area and the High Heaven Snowfield was only slightly larger than the Valley of Miasma, and this region was but a tiny, insignificant corner of it...

Although this Giant Dragon’s carcass was immense—and it truly was—it was still far too small compared to the entire Valley of Miasma. The miasma generated by its death could not have reached the horrifying level required to form the valley.

This meant it wasn’t the Ancient Dragon King, but another Giant Dragon.

"Cast another Wind Magic spell," Danika said.

Zhou Chen complied, unleashing a hurricane far more powerful than the last. The air currents intertwined, forming a massive vortex storm that expanded with devastating force.

The gale blew back the miasma for more than ten kilometers, but gradually, a towering obstacle blocked the hurricane’s path. With nowhere left to go, the storm’s energy was forced upward, shooting into the heavens like lava from a volcanic eruption after only a few seconds.

And so, as the miasma dissipated, a mountain emerged. It was like a city wall, slightly curved, completely encircling the area in a perfect 360-degree sweep.

Zhou Chen’s gaze followed the perimeter. As if realizing something, he continued to fly upward, casting Wind Magic along the way to drive back the miasma.

Before long, high in the air, he saw a Giant Dragon’s skull half-hidden in the miasma. Most of the skeleton was buried in the earth, but even so, he could still sense the ferocity and dominance that placed it far above the normal chain of life.

’This is the Ancient Dragon King’s eye socket...’ Zhou Chen sucked in a sharp breath. The area he had just been in was merely the eye socket of the Ancient Dragon King!

’An eye socket over ten kilometers long... The sheer size of the Ancient Dragon King was just too terrifying.’

’Compared to the Ancient Dragon King, the Giant Dragon carcass in its eye socket was a mere infant.’

Just as Zhou Chen was reeling from the shock, an intense sense of danger suddenly washed over him. He instantly shot back two kilometers through the air, creating a sonic boom.

At that exact moment, a fissure tore through space. A long, slender, withered black hand reached out and snatched at the spot where Zhou Chen had just been, only to grasp at empty air.

’What in the world...?’ Zhou Chen’s brow furrowed. He could feel a dense wave of corruption emanating from the withered black hand.

He also noticed that the withered black hand wore a ring on each of its five fingers. The rings were inscribed with an incomprehensible, sinister script that seemed to be a corrupted version of the language of Gaia. Each ring was a different color, apparently representing an Ability of a different Attribute.

Having failed its strike, the withered black hand disintegrated into nothingness and vanished.

But the grand, symphonic music that began to play, along with the appearance of a boss name and health bar, made it clear that the enemy had not fled.
