Lycan King's Regret: Punished The Wrong Daughter
Chapter 220- Alpha’s Son
Chapter 220: 220- Alpha’s Son
Third-Person POV:
Chloe had been ready since early morning. Arabella had reminded her the previous night that she would be leaving for the council office today, which meant Chloe had to make sure everything went according to plan.
Her first task was already complete. While preparing breakfast, she had mixed the measured dose of medicine into Vanessa’s food, exactly as instructed. Now all she had to do was wait.
After clearing the breakfast table, Chloe went to the telephone in the living room and stood beside it. She knew Dante usually passed through the room around this time before heading out for his morning run.
Right on schedule, he appeared.
Chloe picked up the receiver and pretended to be listening to someone on the other end. There was no call, of course, but Dante had no reason to suspect that.
He was halfway across the room when he noticed her.
Chloe had been aware of his interest for some time. The way he watched her hungrily whenever she worked nearby, how his attention lingered on her whenever he thought nobody was looking.
She usually made sure he never got the chance to approach her, but today was different.
Today, she wanted his attention.
"Who are you talking to?" Dante asked, changing direction and walking toward her. "Was there a call?"
Chloe quickly lowered her head, clutching the receiver with both hands.
"Future Alpha." She bowed respectfully, looking up at him with wide, innocent eyes. "Yes, sir. Someone called a moment ago."
Dante glanced at the telephone. "Who?"
"A man, sir. He wanted to know whether you would accept the position."
"A position?" Dante frowned. "What position?" Chloe hesitated, pretending to be nervous.
"He said there’s an upcoming gala being hosted by our pack, and they wanted to know if you’d be willing to assist an omega during the event."
Dante looked at her as though he hadn’t heard correctly. "Excuse me?"
Chloe lowered her head further. "That’s what he said, sir."
"Assist an omega?" His voice rose. "Are you out of your mind? Do you even know who you’re talking to?"
"Of course, sir. You’re our future Alpha." She raised her puppy eyes, trying to control her laughter.
Dante’s face was turning red with anger. "Who was the idiot who called? Give me his name!" Chloe tightened her grip on the receiver, doing her best to appear frightened.
"He didn’t give me his name, sir. But he said it was very important, and that you should personally confirm whether you’re willing to take the position."
Chloe was still pretending to be frightened when a scream came from upstairs. "DANTE!"
Ah! Right on time.
Chloe had been waiting for Vanessa’s cries to rescue her from this. The medicine had finally started working.
Dante immediately forgot about the telephone call and rushed upstairs, with Chloe following close behind.
They found Vanessa lying on the bedroom floor, her nightdress soaked with sweat. She was clutching her belly and crying so loudly that a couple of servants had already gathered outside the room.
"Dante! Oh, Goddess, it hurts!" Vanessa screamed when she saw him. "I think the baby’s coming! I think the baby’s coming!"
"What?" Dante hurried to her side and crouched beside her. "But it’s too early! Vanessa, are you sure?"
"How would I know?" she cried, grabbing his arm. "Do something!"
Dante looked helplessly at Chloe. "What are you standing there for? Go and get the healer! Tell her the future Luna is in labor, and the future Alpha is about to be born. Hurry!"
"Yes, Sir!"
Chloe ran downstairs, but instead of going to fetch the healer, she settled into a chair in the living room.
She knew Vanessa wasn’t actually in labor. The medicine was causing the pain and sweating, just as planned, and a medical team was already prepared in case anything went wrong. Still, listening to Vanessa’s screams coming from upstairs, Chloe hoped the next part wouldn’t take too long.
A few minutes later, the phone started ringing. It was her friend, Richard. She hurried back upstairs and pushed open the bedroom door.
Dante was still crouched beside his wife, trying to comfort her while Vanessa continued crying and complaining about the pain.
"Where’s the healer?" he demanded the moment he saw Chloe. "Why isn’t she here yet?"
"She’s on her way, Sir. But there’s a call for you."
Dante looked at her in disbelief. "What call? Are you serious? My wife is in labor, and you expect me to answer a bloody telephone?"
"I told him you were busy, sir, but he insisted it was urgent." Chloe looked down nervously. "I’ll stay with Luna Vanessa. Could you please speak to him? He said it would only take a minute."
Dante looked at his wife, who was still gripping his hand fiercely. "Dante, don’t leave me!" Vanessa cried.
"I’ll be right back, darling." He gently freed his hand and kissed her forehead. "The healer is coming. Just hang on for another minute."
He hurried downstairs, muttering angrily about people who had no sense of timing. The telephone was waiting for him. He snatched up the receiver. "Hello? Who is this? And make it quick. My wife is in labor!"
"Ah, Future Alpha! How are you today?" a cheerful male voice greeted him.
"Who the hell are you?"
"Oh, congratulations, sir! I hear your little one is about to arrive. Wonderful news! In fact, this makes our offer even more appropriate."
Dante frowned. "What offer?"
"The position, sir! We were hoping you would agree to assist an omega at our upcoming pack gala. With a baby on the way, what better time to show everyone how humble and helpful our future Alpha can be?"
For a moment, Dante couldn’t believe what he was hearing. "Are you the same idiot who called earlier?"
"Yes, sir! So, may I take that as a—"
"SHUT UP!" Dante slammed the receiver down so hard that the telephone rattled on the table.
Who the hell would offer him a position as an omega’s assistant?
For Goddess sake, he was the Alpha’s son, the future Alpha of Blackthorn! If anything, people should be lining up to serve him, not the other way around. He was beginning to suspect someone was deliberately making a fool of him, and when he found out who, they’d regret it.
