Chapter 245: Chapter 245 Is he getting tired of me staying here?

Jessica’s heart skipped a beat.

She had never seen him like this before.

"Cedric..." she whispered, finally pulling away from his kiss, her cheeks flushed as she tried to catch her breath.

He stared at her through his hazy eyes, his breathing uneven and his chest rising and falling rapidly. Even after she had pulled away, his gaze remained fixed on her face and his fingers tightened slightly around her waist as though he wanted her to come closer again.

Daisy... you’re addicting.

The thought appeared in his drunken mind, though the woman standing in front of him was Jessica. His mind was too clouded by alcohol to distinguish between the memories haunting him and the reality before his eyes, and all he knew was that he didn’t want the woman in his arms to leave him again.

Jessica, unaware of the face he was seeing in his drunken confusion, placed her palm against his chest, feeling his heart pounding beneath it. Her eyes widened slightly at the rapid rhythm before her lips curled into a satisfied little smirk.

Look at you...

You still want me this badly.

She lifted her eyes to his face, studying his handsome features with growing satisfaction.

"What’s wrong?" she teased softly, brushing a strand of hair away from her cheek. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Cedric didn’t answer. His gaze drifted over her face once more and before she could say anything else, he caught her by the waist and pulled her closer, leaving barely any space between them.

Jessica’s breath caught in her throat. A sly smile spread across her lips and she instinctively slipped her arms around his neck.

"Cedric..." she murmured again, this time with a hint of playful affection. "You’re being unusually clingy tonight."

He seemed not to hear her. His attention remained entirely on her face and the moment she tried to lean back to look at him properly, he drew her close again, his expression turning faintly displeased at the distance between them.

Jessica almost laughed at the sight.

Oh, my God. Is this really Cedric?

She had never expected him to be the one desperately seeking her attention. The thought filled her with a giddy sense of victory and she gently ran her fingers through his hair before leaning closer to him.

"All right, all right," she whispered with a soft giggle. "I’m not going anywhere."

Those words seemed to satisfy him and he kissed her again, leaving her with little opportunity to tease him further. Jessica closed her eyes and returned his kiss, her fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt as she held him closer.

A triumphant smile formed against his lips.

That’s right, Cedric.

You may have made me wait but in the end, you’re still mine.

Little did she know that while she was busy celebrating her victory, the man she was kissing was thinking about another woman entirely.

For the past two days, Daisy had noticed something strange about Alessio.

He was avoiding her.

Well, not exactly avoiding her but he wasn’t behaving the way he used to.

Usually, whenever she entered the living room, he would look up from whatever he was doing. Sometimes, he would ask her whether she’d eaten, whether she needed anything or simply sit nearby while she busied herself with her phone.

Now, he barely spoke to her.

Even when they happened to be in the same room, he seemed occupied with something else.

At first, Daisy thought he was probably busy with work.

After all, Alessio was a businessman. He had important things to deal with, unlike her, who was currently staying in his house without paying a single penny.

But as the second day passed, Daisy’s thoughts took a different turn.

Oh...

She looked at Alessio, who was sitting on the sofa with his laptop open, his attention fixed on the screen.

Is he getting tired of me staying here?

Her shoulders drooped a little.

Of course.

She had been living under his roof for quite some time now. He had already helped her so much, letting her stay in his house and treating her kindly even though she wasn’t family.

Perhaps he had finally started feeling uncomfortable.

Daisy could understand that.

Nobody liked having someone stay in their house for free indefinitely. Even if they were friends, there had to be a limit.

She glanced at him once more before lowering her eyes.

I should hurry up and renovate my apartment.

The sooner she could move into her own place, the sooner Alessio could have his house back to himself.

She didn’t want to become a burden to him.

What Daisy failed to understand was that Alessio wasn’t growing tired of her presence.

Quite the opposite.

He had been deliberately keeping his distance because the more time he spent with her, the harder it became to convince himself that he could live without her.

And the last thing he wanted was to drag her into his dangerous world.

Unfortunately, his attempt to protect her feelings had only left her believing she was unwanted.

The following morning, Daisy arrived at the laboratory in a much better mood.

She had barely settled into her seat when Mona hurried over to her.

"Daisy! I have good news!" Mona said, her voice bright with excitement.

Daisy immediately looked up, her eyes curious.

Mona pulled a chair beside her and sat down.

"Remember how you told me you wanted to renovate your apartment?"

Daisy nodded eagerly.

"Well, I talked to a friend of mine yesterday. She’s an interior designer and she also knows a reliable contractor. I showed her the pictures of your apartment and she said she could help you plan everything within your budget!"

Daisy’s eyes widened.

Really?

Mona nodded enthusiastically.

"Yes! She can help you choose the furniture, wall colors, lighting, everything. And she won’t charge you some ridiculous amount just because she knows you’re desperate to get the place ready."

Daisy’s face lit up.

For the past few days, she had been worrying about how she would manage the renovation. She wanted her apartment to feel like home but she didn’t have much experience with interior design or contractors.

Knowing that someone could guide her through the process was a huge relief.

She immediately grabbed Mona’s hands and gave them an excited squeeze.

Mona laughed.

"Wait, wait! I haven’t even told you everything yet!"
