At two in the morning, strong winds swept through Demon’s Ridge. Fortunately, Flynn Hansen and Leo Denton had already told everyone to reinforce their tents, so the campsite wasn’t affected.

At seven in the morning, I suddenly sat up in bed. Ronan Kendrick, woken by the noise, looked at me, dazed.

"Did you have a nightmare?"

"No. Did we harvest the Water Celery?"

Ronan Kendrick sighed helplessly, then pulled me into his arms. "We did. Don’t worry. Just five more minutes."

He said just five minutes, but when I woke up again, it was already eight o’clock sharp.

Stepping out of the tent, Evelyn Ford was met with a rich aroma. Today’s breakfast was noodles. The soup was a bone broth, and it smelled incredibly savory.

After breakfast, they headed up the mountain. The weather was quite nice today; the dark, oppressive clouds had all scattered. Evelyn Ford thought the sun would come out, but to her surprise, no one else believed her.

"The clouds may have scattered, but it’s still overcast. I’ll bet one black truffle that the sun absolutely will not come out today. If it does, I’ll swallow a black truffle whole." Miles Vaughn was very confident. After all, the temperature in the mountains was only 12°C, and it was already past nine o’clock. If the sun was going to come out, it would have by now.

"Betting again? Miles, you lose nine times out of ten. Even though I also don’t think the sun will come out, I’m telling you, don’t bet. Being overconfident is just asking to eat your words." Peter Owens offered his well-intentioned advice, but Miles Vaughn wasn’t having it.

"I’m not Quincy. I’m not that unlucky."

Evelyn Ford chuckled dryly. "You two are cut from the same cloth. I’m not betting with you. In any case, the sun will definitely come out today."

With that, Evelyn Ford grabbed Ronan Kendrick and walked off, leaving the others behind to argue about whether or not the sun would actually come out.

"They’re so childish."

Ronan Kendrick readily agreed. "That’s why they’re a burden. We should just ignore them."

Evelyn Ford nodded with a straight face, then sighed. "But if we ignore them, the two of us will have to do a ton of work. We’d be worked to death. Besides, they might get attacked by wild boars and cattle. You know what weaklings they are."

"They’re so annoying. They talk too much, and they’re so loud."

"Once we get back to the base, we’ll ignore them, okay? I’ll do whatever you say." When it came to placating people, Evelyn Ford was a natural.

"Okay. But you can’t pay them any mind behind my back."

Evelyn Ford shook her head vigorously. "I won’t. You’re the only one who has my attention."

Having reached an agreement, the two happily walked off hand in hand. The others trailing behind them overheard the entire conversation, their faces etched with shock and disbelief.

"They’re the real childish ones, aren’t they?"

"Hush! Don’t say that. What if the ’childish ones’ hear you and decide to ignore us?"

"Hahahaha..."

Their luck was good today. Just an hour after entering the mountains, they encountered a herd of wild cattle. Both wild cattle and wild boars are social animals. Though ferocious, they were no match for the Sedative Balls. The cattle were much tougher than the boars; it took detonating six Sedative Balls before they all finally passed out.

"You guys won’t be able to drag these cattle—they’re not light. How about this? I’ll give you some bamboo baskets. There are plenty of mushrooms and wild vegetables nearby. You can go gather mushrooms."

No one objected. They couldn’t be of much help here anyway, so they might as well do something else. Grabbing the bamboo baskets and sickles, they went off to gather mushrooms and wild vegetables.

Evelyn Ford left them a good number of Sedative Balls so they could handle themselves in case they ran into any wild boars or cattle.

After stowing away all the cattle, the two of them crossed a mountain. They even got a bonus find today. On another mountain, Evelyn Ford discovered a nest of wild bird eggs. She left the eggs alone, but she dug up all the medicinal herbs growing beside it.
