Devara left the throne room after making the necessary arrangements and began walking through the palace, his mind already occupied with how he would break the news to his family.
He knew his wives would understand the importance of his training under Lord Vishnu, but he also knew that understanding and being happy about their husband leaving were two entirely different matters.
He first visited Vudvuda.
She was already carrying their child, and the moment Devara entered her chambers, she looked at him with a curious expression, immediately sensing that he had something important to tell her.
Devara sat beside her and gently placed his hand over her stomach before explaining that Lord Vishnu had finally come to begin his training and that, in three days, he would be leaving the kingdom for some time.
Vudvuda stared at him for several seconds.
Then she looked down at her stomach.
"Did you hear that?"
she asked her unborn child with an exaggeratedly offended expression.
"Your father is already planning to abandon us."
Devara’s eyebrows rose.
"Abandon?"
"That is exactly what I said,"
Vudvuda replied, placing one hand protectively over her stomach.
"Your father wants to leave your mother while you are still inside here."
Devara couldn’t help laughing.
"I am not abandoning anyone. I am going for training."
"Tell that to your child."
Devara leaned closer to her stomach.
"Listen, little one. Your father is going away only for a while. I promise that when I return, I will spend plenty of time with both of you."
Vudvuda narrowed her eyes playfully.
"You had better."
Devara chuckled hearing her.
"I will."
From there, he continued visiting his other wives.
Samichi had also become pregnant, and when Devara told her about Vishnu’s upcoming training, she reacted almost exactly like Vudvuda.
She immediately complained that their child had not even been born yet and already their father was planning to leave them.
"Your father has decided that divine training is more important than spending time with his family," she complained dramatically to her stomach.
Devara laughed.
"Please don’t teach our child that version of the story."
"I am simply informing the child of the truth."
"The truth is that I am going to learn from Lord Vishnu and will return."
Samichi smiled despite herself.
"You had better return quickly."
"I will."
Lata’s reaction was no different.
By this point, Devara had begun to realize that telling his wives about his journey one after another was becoming less like announcing an important royal undertaking and more like defending himself before a family council.
Lata listened quietly at first, but once Devara finished explaining, she placed both hands over her stomach and sighed dramatically.
"Did you hear that? Your father is leaving us."
Devara laughed.
"You are all conspiring against me."
"We are merely making sure your children know what their father is doing,"
Lata replied with a smile.
Devara shook his head affectionately before placing his hand gently over her stomach.
"I promise you both that once I return, I will make up for the time I spend away."
Lata’s expression softened.
"We will hold you to that promise."
"You should."
After informing his wives one by one, Devara finally made his way toward Gandhari’s chamber.
When he entered, he found her sitting comfortably with their eldest son, Prabajan, resting peacefully in her arms.
The little boy had grown considerably since his birth, and Gandhari was gently supporting him against her chest while occasionally looking down at him with a mother’s quiet affection.
She noticed Devara entering and smiled.
"You have come to tell me."
Devara raised an eyebrow.
"How did you know?"
Gandhari smiled.
"Because you have already visited the others."
Devara chuckled.
"Word travels quickly in this palace."
Gandhari adjusted Prabajan in her arms.
"So, when are you leaving?"
"In three days."
Gandhari nodded calmly.
"Then go."
Devara blinked hearing her words.
"That easily?"
"Why wouldn’t it be?"
Gandhari asked him with a raised an eye brow.
"You have been waiting for this training for years. Lord Vishnu himself has come to teach you. You should not allow worries about the kingdom to distract you."
Devara smiled.
"I was worried about leaving you all behind."
Gandhari looked at him with complete confidence.
"You don’t need to worry about the kingdom either."
Devara raised an eyebrow.
"Oh?"
Gandhari’s smile became slightly more confident.
"You have ministers. You have commanders. You have your family. And you have me."
She shifted Prabajan slightly in her arms.
"You can go without worrying about what happens here. I will take care of the kingdom until you return."
Devara stared at her for a moment before a laugh escaped him.
"Of course you will."
Gandhari raised an eyebrow.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
Devara immediately straightened and gave her an exaggeratedly formal bow.
"Yes, Maharani."
Gandhari couldn’t help laughing.
"Don’t mock me."
"I would never dare."
He straightened, still smiling.
"But I suppose I should remember that I am leaving my kingdom in the hands of its Maharani."
Gandhari smiled proudly.
"Now you understand."
Devara looked at Prabajan sleeping peacefully in her arms, then at Gandhari.
For a moment, the thought of leaving them made his heart heavy.
But seeing the confidence in his wife’s eyes reassured him.
He had built a family capable of standing beside him.
And perhaps this journey was not about leaving them behind.
Perhaps it was about becoming stronger so that when he returned, he could protect them even better than before.
After leaving Gandhari’s chamber, Devara continued through the palace until he reached Rajmata Satyavati’s chambers.
He knocked gently before entering, finding her seated near the window while attendants arranged some of the royal documents around her.
Satyavati looked up and smiled the moment she saw him.
"You have come to tell me something," she said knowingly.
Devara chuckled.
"How does everyone know before I even say anything?"
"Because you are terrible at hiding important news from the people who know you well,"
Satyavati replied to him.
Devara smiled before approaching her and sitting nearby.
"Father Vishnu came to me today."
Satyavati’s expression immediately became attentive.
"Lord Vishnu?"
Devara nodded.
"He said the time has finally come for my training under him. He will return in three days and take me with him. I do not know how long the training will last, but I wanted to inform you before I leave."
Satyavati smiled warmly.
"Then you must go."
Devara looked at her.
"I knew you would say that."
"A Guru such as Lord Vishnu has chosen to personally train you. This is an opportunity that should not be refused."
She then reached forward and placed her hand upon his head, blessing him.
"May your journey be safe. May your mind remain clear, your heart remain humble and may you return to your family stronger and wiser than when you left."
Devara lowered his head respectfully beneath her hand.
"Thank you, Rajmata."
Satyavati smiled.
"How many times must I tell you? Just call me Ma..."
Devara looked up.
She gently touched his cheek.
"I did not give birth to you, Devara. I know that. But that has never changed how I see you."
Her voice softened.
"You became my son a long time ago."
Devara’s expression warmed.
He knew exactly what she meant.
Satyavati had remained in his kingdom rather than returning permanently to Hastinapur, not because she had forgotten her old family, but because she had come to regard Devara and his household as her own.
She had watched him grow, stood beside him through difficult moments and become a grandmother to his children.
Blood had never been the condition upon which she had built their relationship.
"You are my son, And I will always bless you as one."
Devara smiled and bowed his head respectfully.
"Then I will carry your blessing with me."
"Good."
Satyavati then reached toward a nearby table and picked up a sealed scroll.
"Before you leave, there is something else you should see."
She handed it to him.
Devara accepted the scroll and examined the seal.
"This came from Hastinapur?"
Satyavati nodded.
"King Dhritarashtra sent it to me."
Devara carefully opened the scroll and began reading.
His eyes moved across the message.
The princes had begun their formal training.
The Kuru princes were now entering the next stage of their education, with their martial training officially underway under their appointed teachers.
The report contained details about their progress, their instructors and the beginning of the rigorous discipline that would shape them into warriors and princes.
Devara smiled as he read.
"So they have finally begun."
Satyavati nodded her head with a smile.
"They have."
Devara looked down at the scroll again, thinking about the children he had watched grow during their time in his kingdom.
"The boys must be excited."
"And probably competing with each other already,"
Satyavati said with a knowing smile.
Devara laughed.
"I wouldn’t expect anything less."
He carefully rolled the scroll again.
"Thank you for showing this to me."
Satyavati nodded.
"And when you return from your training, perhaps you can visit Hastinapur yourself and see how much they have changed."
Devara smiled.
"I will."
Satyavati looked at him for a moment before speaking again.
"Until then, don’t worry about what you leave behind."
Devara raised an eyebrow.
"That seems to be everyone’s advice today."
"Because everyone knows you," she replied.
"You have a habit of carrying the weight of the entire kingdom upon your shoulders."
Devara chuckled hearing her.
"Perhaps."
Satyavati smiled.
"Then let your Guru carry some of that weight for a while."
Devara stood and bowed respectfully.
"I will remember that, Mother."
Satyavati’s smile widened at the word.
As Devara left her chambers with the scroll from Hastinapur in his possession, another thought settled into his mind.
In three days, he would leave his kingdom to begin training under Lord Vishnu.
