Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 311: Little Flatterer Ian
’I thought she wouldn’t welcome me, but from the looks of it, she seems pretty happy to see me, right?’
Sharon Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, "Mr. Linden, you came specifically to see my sister, didn’t you?"
Hearing her question, Nathan Fawcett glanced at her, nodded, and said, "Yes."
"It’s the New Year today, and you made a special trip to see her. Is it something urgent?" Seeing that no one else was talking, she had no choice but to take on the role of livening things up.
Nathan Fawcett said, "There are a few things."
"Well, it seems it’s not convenient to discuss in front of us, then!"
Once she finished eating, Sharon Sutton quickly got David Hayes to leave with her.
Sharon Sutton said, "David and I are planning to head out. You all take your time eating."
Once the young couple left, only a few of them remained at home.
They were all people Anne Sutton trusted.
Anne Sutton glanced at her mother and said, "Mom, are you unhappy?"
In front of Nathan Fawcett, Mrs. Sutton didn’t want to say that she was unhappy because of Ian...
She began, "No, it’s not that. I just feel a little unwell."
"Unwell? Did you take any medicine?" Anne Sutton said, "I’ve been telling you not to overexert yourself. Your body is still recovering. Why don’t I help you upstairs to rest?"
’Her mother had mostly finished eating anyway!’
Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Mrs. Sutton nodded and said, "Alright."
"Grandma, let me help you!" Ian chimed in, continuing to play the part of the little charmer.
Hearing this, Anne Sutton’s lips curved into a smile. "You stay here and eat with your dad! Don’t let it go to waste. Finish all the food."
Ian glanced at the full table, not expecting Anne Sutton to give him such a monumental task. ’Finish it all?’
...
After helping her mother upstairs, Anne Sutton asked, "You’re upset, aren’t you? Is it because of Nathan Fawcett? You don’t want to see him?"
Her mother had clearly been unhappy ever since Nathan Fawcett arrived with Ian.
Mrs. Sutton said, "I know you’re with him now. I know he’s very capable and has a high status, but seeing you trying so hard to please him... it just makes me feel awful."
"Please him?" Anne Sutton was completely baffled by her mother’s words. "How am I trying to please him? I’ve barely said a word to him."
"Then why are you trying so hard to please his son?"
In Mrs. Sutton’s eyes, the only reason Anne Sutton was being so nice to Ian was to get on Nathan Fawcett’s good side.
Hearing her mother’s words, Anne Sutton couldn’t help but laugh. "You think I’m being nice to Ian because of him!"
"Aren’t you?" Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne Sutton.
Anne Sutton said, "Of course not! Mom, Ian is my son!"
Mrs. Sutton said, "What?"
Anne Sutton said, "Back then, Sean Sutton was bribed by Charles Prescott to get rid of my baby. Nathan Fawcett showed up and took Ian away. I didn’t know all these years. It was only after Nathan left last time that Sean Sutton came to find me, which is why I rushed to Veridia. I’ve already confirmed it—Ian really is my child! My baby is still alive. I always thought I had lost him back then, but it turns out fate wasn’t so cruel to me after all."
Hearing this, Mrs. Sutton’s energy returned. She looked at Anne Sutton in disbelief and said, "You’re saying Ian is the baby from back then...?"
Anne Sutton nodded. "Yes. He was premature. He’s so adorable, isn’t he? And he’s so well-behaved."
Mrs. Sutton said, "I knew it! No wonder he seemed so well-behaved, just like you when you were little."
Anne Sutton felt a little embarrassed hearing her mother praise her like that.
’I guess in a mother’s eyes, her own child is always the most adorable, huh?’
Anne Sutton said, "That’s why I had him call you Grandma. Please don’t be so cold to him next time. He may be young, but he understands a lot."
"Why didn’t you tell me sooner?" Mrs. Sutton shot a glare at Anne Sutton.
Anne Sutton smiled. "I was planning to wait until we were in Veridia to introduce you properly. I had no idea they would suddenly show up today!"
"Well, hurry up and go be with them." Now that she knew Ian’s identity, Mrs. Sutton was no longer as unhappy as before.
After all, Mrs. Sutton felt quite guilty for not being able to protect Anne Sutton’s child back then, and for letting Sean Sutton get rid of him.
It made her feel like her words carried no weight in her own home.
Anne Sutton came downstairs and saw Nathan Fawcett and Ian still eating.
Ian said, "Dad, does Grandma not like Ian? Was Ian not being good?"
Nathan Fawcett ruffled his hair. "Just eat."
Anne Sutton’s heart sank when she heard Ian’s words. ’This little guy is just too sharp; he can pick up on even the slightest change in people’s moods.’
Just from one meal with her mother, he could sense that he wasn’t welcome.
Anne Sutton walked over and said, "Ian."
Seeing Anne Sutton, he immediately broke into a smile again.
Now that it was just the three of them, Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Why did you suddenly come over without saying anything?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "Ian missed you!"
"Does your mother know you came here?"
"She wouldn’t care anyway, so it doesn’t matter. She’s probably still at work right now!" Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and asked, "How’s your mother?"
"She hasn’t been in a good mood lately. Don’t take it to heart," Anne Sutton said. "A lot has happened, after all. It’s not directed at you two."
Nathan Fawcett asked, "You haven’t told her about Ian yet?"
"I hadn’t found the right opportunity," Anne Sutton said. "But I just told her upstairs."
Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett said, "That’s good."
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, a smile playing on her lips. "Thank you for bringing Ian."
Seeing her son at a time like this made Anne Sutton genuinely happy.
Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "So you’re happy that I brought Ian, but not that I came myself, is that it? You heartless woman!"
"...I’m happy about that, too." Seeing how cautious he had been all evening, Anne Sutton actually felt a pang of sympathy for him.
She had never seen him act so cautiously before.
Anne Sutton said, "I feel like... you’re different this time."
"How am I different?" Nathan Fawcett asked, confused.
Anne Sutton said, "In the past, whenever you showed up, you acted like the world revolved around you. Why do you seem like a nervous bride meeting her in-laws today?"
Nathan Fawcett was speechless.
He said, "If I had known, I never would have told your mother who I was."
The last time he was in Westhaven, he had already told Anne Sutton’s mother that he was Nathan Fawcett.
Anne Sutton laughed. "What’s wrong?"
Nathan Fawcett said, "I made such a terrible impression on her before! I’m starting to regret it now."
He never thought that one day he would have to pursue Anne Sutton like this.
Now that he was ready to woo her, he realized he had offended his future mother-in-law right from the start!
If he could turn back time, he would have prepared properly before meeting Mrs. Sutton and made a good impression on her mother.
Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, Anne Sutton chuckled. "I never thought you’d be worried about things like that!"
