Chapter 374: The Leader Has Spoken

’Sharon is probably asleep by now!’

I wonder when Anna Linden plans on going back.

She hadn’t mentioned it to her, so Anne Sutton had no idea.

Nathan Fawcett said, "You really care about her."

"She’s my only sister!" Anne Sutton said. "I wonder how she and David Hayes have been doing lately."

She remembered how Sharon had even fought with her over that scumbag David Hayes. But still, they had years of history between them.

Nathan Fawcett said, "Don’t worry, they’ll be fine."

The two of them were eating for a bit when Caleb Summers showed up. "Holy crap, I finally found you guys!"

He sat down beside them and looked at Nathan Fawcett, saying, "You just took Anne Sutton out to eat without inviting me, leaving me all alone back there."

Nathan Fawcett looked at him. "I thought you two had things to talk about."

"What else are your mom and I supposed to talk about, besides you?" Caleb Summers said.

Nathan Fawcett picked up his glass and took a sip of water. Anne Sutton was drinking a Coke, which Nathan disliked, so he was having water.

He said to Caleb Summers, "My mom came to pick you up, so you should just go back with her. Stop making a scene."

Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, Caleb Summers was in disbelief. "She came to get *you*! Why would she make a special trip just for me? And you, she finally relented, so why are you refusing such a great opportunity?"

"I think Westhaven is pretty nice."

"Stop joking!" Caleb Summers said. "If you really intended to take over the Fawcett Group, why not just kick out Charles Prescott and run the company yourself? You still want to go back, don’t you?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "I have other options besides going back to the Linden Group. I haven’t decided about the Fawcett Group yet."

Anne Sutton and Ian were in Veridia.

If he stayed here, he would be separated from them.

But if he brought Anne Sutton and their child over, he’d be too far from his mother.

Caleb Summers said, "I don’t care, you have to come back with me! We can’t have your mother finally giving in, only for you to back out now! Can you please not be like this? Don’t you think things were great before? You’re the Head of the Linden Family. Do you really not care about that title?"

Nathan Fawcett looked at Caleb Summers and said, "I’ve never cared about it."

"So high and mighty!" Caleb Summers said. "Anyway, I have to drag you back."

After speaking, he turned to Anne Sutton, who was calmly eating. "Sister-in-law, aren’t you going to help persuade him? All you do is eat."

"It’s pretty good," Anne Sutton said, holding a skewer out to him. "Have a taste."

Caleb Summers gave her a suspicious look, took it, and tried a bite.

’Huh, it actually is pretty good!’

The flavor was decent.

Anne Sutton said, "So? Not bad, right?"

Caleb Summers looked at her and said, "It’s good, I’ll give you that."

’But something feels off!’

Caleb Summers said, "Do you really want Nathan to come back and just be some employee? Who the hell passes up being the Head of the Linden Family? I can’t believe you’re fine with that."

"He should do whatever makes him happy. I think he’s quite happy these days."

Caleb Summers said, "You’re just trying to piss me off."

"..." Anne Sutton said, "Well, you seem to be alive and well, don’t you?"

Caleb Summers sat to the side, munching away gloomily.

After they finished eating, they went back to the Sutton Family home.

Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, "Why don’t you sleep here tonight? We have a spare room. It’ll save you a trip back."

Going back to the Fawcett Family home now would be another trip.

Nathan Fawcett nodded. "Okay."

Caleb Summers said, "Then I guess I’ll just go back by myself!"

He had a resentful look on his face.

Anne Sutton glanced at him. "You can sleep here too. Don’t act like we’re bullying you."

Caleb Summers said, "But you are bullying me."

He had waited so long for this opportunity, but now Nathan Fawcett was unwilling to return to the Linden Family.

It left him feeling quite frustrated.

Back at the house, Caleb Summers went to see Anna Linden.

Anna Linden was in the study, talking to someone on the phone.

When she saw Caleb Summers enter, she asked, "How did it go?"

"I tried to persuade him, but he hasn’t agreed yet."

Anna Linden’s eyes darkened. "He’s blaming me for how I treated him in the past, isn’t he?"

Her voice sounded a little desolate.

’I never thought the day would come when I’d end up with nothing.’

Caleb Summers said, "This might be hard to hear, but you really did favor Ethan Linden more back then. You weren’t that affectionate with Nathan. He probably holds a grudge over it. If I were him, I’d be upset too."

Hearing Caleb Summers’s words, Anna Linden said, "Go get some rest."

Caleb Summers nodded.

When he came out, Anne Sutton had already prepared a room for him.

Nathan Fawcett was staying in Anne Sutton’s room.

He had stayed here before, so he was already very familiar with the place.

This house used to be quite lively.

But ever since Sean Sutton had his affair and moved in with the other person, the place had instantly felt empty.

Anne Sutton lay in bed, picked up her phone, and was just thinking about whether she should text Sharon Sutton to say she’d visit her tomorrow, when she saw a message from Anna Linden: "Get up early tomorrow and have breakfast with me."

"..." Seeing the message from Anna Linden, Anne Sutton replied, "Okay."

’Anna Linden is my boss now. When the boss gives an order, can I really refuse?’

Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, "Let’s sleep."

Nathan Fawcett glanced at the time and lay down. He looked at Anne Sutton and asked, "How’s Ian?"

"I told him to stay with his grandma," Anne Sutton said. "We left so suddenly today that I didn’t bring him. I wonder if he’s asleep yet. I’ll ask my mom."

After speaking, Anne Sutton sent a voice message to her mother.

Mrs. Sutton replied, "I already brought him back. He’s asleep."

Anne Sutton said, "My mom says he’s already asleep."

Nathan Fawcett, lying beside her, said, "I heard."

She looked at the man and said, "Then let’s sleep too."

It had been a long time since she was last back, so Anne Sutton didn’t sleep very soundly.

Even though it was the place she had grown up in, sleeping here now felt strangely unfamiliar.

The next morning, Anne Sutton rose early.

When she got up, she saw that Anna Linden was already awake and sitting on the sofa, waiting for her.

Anne Sutton said, "Dr. Linden, good morning."

Anna Linden glanced at her.

Anne Sutton asked, "Have you been waiting long?"

’From the looks of it, she must have been up for a while.’

"Are you ready to go?" Anna Linden asked.

Anne Sutton said, "Should we wake Nathan Fawcett?"

Seeing that Nathan Fawcett was still asleep, Anne Sutton hadn’t woken him just now.

She didn’t know where things stood between the mother and son right now.

Anna Linden said, "Don’t wake him. Let’s go by ourselves."

At the door, Chloe Chase had already arranged for a car.

Anne Sutton got into the car with Anna Linden.

Anne Sutton asked, "Where are we going to eat? Have you decided?"

"Just find a place. You recommend one."

"Okay."

Anne Sutton said, "Let me see."

She opened an app and found a breakfast place.

The three of them went to the restaurant and had something to eat.
