Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 391: My Son Is Very Smart
"It’s nothing, I’m just tired and need some rest. Business has been booming lately."
Nathan Fawcett said, "As long as you’re okay."
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Didn’t I tell you that you didn’t need to come?"
She had just called Nathan Fawcett and told him to go home first.
’I can’t believe he came anyway!’
Nathan Fawcett said, "How could I not come when Mrs. Sutton is in the hospital?"
"So when are you going back? Your grandfather is probably waiting for you. Ian is there with him too."
"There’s no rush," Nathan Fawcett said. "I’ve already sent the butler home. He’ll take care of Ian. Let’s go back after Mrs. Sutton is better."
After he finished speaking, he asked Anne Sutton, "Have you two eaten yet?"
"Not yet!"
"What do you want to eat? I’ll go buy it for you."
Anne Sutton said, "Mom, what do you want to eat?"
Mrs. Sutton said, "Anything is fine with me."
Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, "Just get whatever you think is good."
"I’ll go then." He glanced at her and walked out the door.
Because Mrs. Sutton was sick, Nathan Fawcett and Anne Sutton stayed with her at the hospital that night instead of going home.
That evening, Master Linden was eating dinner with Ian. Since Anna Linden hadn’t returned either, the house wasn’t as lively as it was yesterday.
Lana Langley and her son were there too.
Seeing it was just them, she spoke up, "Ian, your mom and dad didn’t come back today! They’ve abandoned you."
Hearing Lana Langley’s words, Ian glared at her. ’This woman is so annoying!’
Master Linden looked at Lana Langley and said, "That’s enough! Don’t say such things in front of a child."
Lana Langley said, "You offered to help watch their child, and now they don’t even bother coming back! If you ask me, that Anne Sutton doesn’t act like a mother at all. Then again, she wasn’t the one who raised Ian in the first place! How could she possibly dote on the child!"
Master Linden looked at Ian, placed some food on his plate, and said, "Let’s eat. Eat more so you can grow up big and tall."
Ian glanced at Master Linden and said, "Is it because you won’t let my mommy come see me?"
Hearing his words, the old master said, "Of course not."
Ian said, "You must have been mean to her, so she doesn’t want to come back!"
"I wasn’t mean to her." Master Linden felt that his tone when speaking to Anne Sutton had been quite polite.
Ian glared at him. "Yes, you were!"
Lana Langley said, "And now you’re blaming others! Your great-grandpa is going through so much trouble to take care of you, and you say things like that. You’re just like your mother, you don’t know what’s good for you. By the way, Grand-uncle, I see you’re arranging daily lessons for Ian now. Why don’t you include our Donna as well?"
"Him?" Master Linden glanced at the chubby little boy sitting next to them, gnawing on a chicken leg, and asked, "Can he endure hardship?"
"Of course!" Lana Langley said. "He can definitely endure it! It would be his honor to learn from you. Donna, quickly, thank your great-grand-uncle."
"Thank you, Great-Grand-uncle," Donna said obediently.
Master Linden nodded. "Fine. Then he can attend class with Ian starting tomorrow."
...
To ensure Donna would enjoy the same treatment as Ian, Lana Langley even brought him over that evening to stay at Master Linden’s residence, being very cooperative.
Ian lay on his side, watching Donna. Butler Shepherd had someone prepare two separate beds for them, one for each boy.
Lying in bed, Ian thought of his mother and felt unhappy. ’I miss Mommy! I really, really miss Mommy!’
’I wonder when I’ll be able to see my mommy.’
’If I had known that coming here yesterday meant I wouldn’t see Mommy, that I couldn’t be with her, I wouldn’t have come at all!’
...
In the morning, Mrs. Sutton’s condition had improved significantly, so Nathan Fawcett and Anne Sutton took her home.
Because Mrs. Sutton had a cold, Anne Sutton didn’t let her go to the shop, simply giving instructions to the staff there.
Someone there would handle things.
Anne Sutton was cooking in the kitchen when Nathan Fawcett came over and said, "Aren’t you going to get some sleep?"
"No," Anne Sutton said. "I’m making something to eat. I have to go to work at the hospital soon."
"You’re not sleeping? You didn’t sleep well last night."
"I’m fine!" Anne Sutton smiled. "I slept quite well last night. I’m not the least bit sleepy right now!"
Nathan Fawcett said, "Let me drive you. I don’t feel comfortable with you driving."
"As if you got any sleep! You slept even less than I did last night, didn’t you?"
Anne Sutton looked at the man, feeling a bit helpless.
Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said gently, "Be good."
Since he insisted on driving her, Anne Sutton let him take her to work.
The housekeeper was at home taking care of Mrs. Sutton.
...
Two days later, Mrs. Sutton’s health had fully recovered. She was able to get out of bed to eat and even went to the shop to take care of business.
Seeing her mother like this, Anne Sutton breathed a sigh of relief.
After work, she and Nathan Fawcett returned to the Linden Family estate.
Sitting in the car, she asked Nathan Fawcett, "I wonder how Ian is doing. I miss him so much."
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and smiled. "He’s doing fine."
When they arrived at the Linden estate, Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett walked into the living room and saw Lana Langley reclining on the sofa while a servant peeled fruit for her.
She was enjoying herself like an empress dowager.
Back home, her days were spent taking care of her husband and child. Now, she was finally getting a taste of what it felt like to be upper-class, to be waited on, to no longer have to slave away.
Seeing Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett walk in, she immediately sat up, a little embarrassed. "You’re back?"
Anne Sutton glanced at her and said, "You seem to be enjoying yourself, Second Sister-in-law."
Lana Langley said, "Well, I don’t have much else to do."
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and asked, "Where’s Ian?"
"He’s upstairs in class!" Lana Langley said. "Donna is with him! Our Donna is attending classes with Ian now, all on Master Linden’s orders."
She sounded a bit proud as she said this. After all, being personally instructed by Master Linden proved that her son was no less capable than Ian.
Anne Sutton said, "I’ll go check on them!"
She went upstairs to the study and saw the tutor Master Linden had hired teaching the two children.
Ian was staring out the window in a daze, and it was hard to tell if he was even listening to the teacher.
Donna, sitting beside him, was much more focused, staring intently at the teacher.
Lana Langley crept over, stood next to Anne Sutton, glanced inside, and said with a smile, "Look at your Ian. He’s so young; making him take this kind of class is really putting him on the spot! He probably doesn’t understand a word."
Anne Sutton glanced at Lana Langley. "And your Donna can understand all of it?"
"But of course!" Lana Langley said. "My son is very smart."
Seeing her own son listening so attentively, Lana Langley couldn’t be happier.
Anne Sutton stood to the side and listened to the lesson for a while, realizing the curriculum Master Linden had arranged was far too advanced.
’A child Ian’s age probably couldn’t understand any of it.’
’Maybe this is how the children of wealthy families are raised?’
Even so, seeing Ian sitting there so somberly made Anne’s heart ache.
’Sigh...’
The teacher noticed Ian was in a daze and asked, "Ian, what are you thinking about?"
