Martial Dao: Peace by Force
Chapter 392: Stealing Celestial Secret: Sky-Soaring Divine Fire
Zhai Jia’s Jeep was still parked in the alley, its headlights off.
At the mouth of the alley, Zhai Jia was leaning against the car door.
When he saw two people emerge from the depths of the alley, a grin immediately spread across his face. He straightened up, pulled open the rear passenger door, and made a “please” gesture toward them.
“My good sirs, please get in.”
The next second.
Two sacks landed on the ground with a dull thud.
Zhai Jia’s eyes flew wide open. “Holy shit, that lady patron is *this* generous?”
“Cut the crap and lend a hand,” Zhai Yu snapped, his voice, tinged with resignation, coming from behind his mask.
Zhai Jia chuckled and walked around the front of the car. Instead of helping Zhai Yu first, he went straight to Wan Ze and reached for the sack on his shoulder.
“Ah Ze, let me get that.”
Wan Ze didn’t hesitate, shrugging the sack off his shoulder and handing it to Zhai Jia.
Zhai Jia took the sack, holding it with both arms.
Zhai Yu stared at him, stunned.
‘This rotten kid.’
He gave a helpless smile.
Then he walked up and kicked Zhai Jia in the ass.
This provoked a grumble from Zhai Jia. “A dignified Refining Grandmaster like you still needs my help? Aren’t you embarrassed to let that get out?”
After speaking, Zhai Jia turned, walked to the back of the car, opened the trunk, and shoved the sack inside.
The sack hit the metal floor of the trunk with a dull THUD.
Zhai Yu laughed in exasperation.
‘I should’ve just kicked him to death.’
He tossed his own sack into the trunk, then got into the back seat.
“Alright, let’s go.”
Zhai Jia chuckled, turned the key, and the engine let out a low roar. The car vibrated slightly, then pulled out of the alley and turned onto the main road.
The streetlights on the main road were much brighter than in the alley. At this hour, there were almost no other vehicles on the road, just their lone Jeep driving down the empty street.
After about two minutes of driving, Zhai Jia asked curiously, “So, what goodies did we get?”
Zhai Yu leaned back in his seat and said calmly, “Ah Ze found something related to *that place*.”
“Holy shit!” Zhai Jia suddenly slammed on the brakes.
SCREECH!
The tires left a short skid mark on the asphalt.
“Do you even know how to drive? If not, I’ll drive!”
Zhai Yu lurched forward, instantly furious.
Bracing himself with one hand on the seatback, he reached his other hand through the gap between the two front seats and smacked Zhai Jia squarely on the back of the head.
Zhai Jia didn’t get angry despite being hit. Instead, he grinned. “Fine! You drive!”
With that, he unbuckled his seatbelt, pushed the door open, and got out.
He knocked on the rear door where Zhai Yu was sitting.
Zhai Yu was dumbfounded.
After a two-second silence, he turned his head and gave Wan Ze a wry smile.
“Fine, I’ll drive.”
Zhai Yu pushed his door open, got out, walked around to the driver’s side, pulled the door open, and sat down.
He adjusted the seat, buckled his seatbelt, gripped the steering wheel, and was about to step on the brake.
“Ah Ze, get in the back,” Zhai Jia’s voice came through the car window.
He jutted his chin toward the back seat, then knocked on the front passenger door, signaling for Wan Ze to get out.
Wan Ze didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Leaning back in the passenger seat, he glanced at Zhai Jia’s grinning face outside the window, then at Zhai Yu’s obviously strained expression in the driver’s seat.
Not knowing whether to laugh or cry, he unbuckled his seatbelt, got out, opened the rear door, and slid in.
The moment he sat down, Zhai Jia immediately leaned over from the passenger seat, his body bent forward and his face close to Wan Ze’s. “Ah Ze, hurry up and tell me, what did you find? Are you sure it’s related to *that place*?”
Wan Ze nodded. “It’s a Jade Pendant.”
Zhai Jia’s eyes widened. He couldn’t help but exclaim, “Holy shit! Don’t tell me this world actually has Elder Immortals? Where’s the jade? Let me see.”
As he spoke, he rubbed his hands together eagerly.
Wan Ze jutted his chin toward the driver’s seat. “Brother Yu has it.”
Zhai Jia immediately turned his head to Zhai Yu and barked in a commanding tone, “Damn it, give it here!”
Zhai Yu was driving.
‘I really wish I could stop the car and beat this kid to death.’
He lifted one hand from the steering wheel, reached into the inner pocket of his jacket, and pulled out a small, black flannel pouch. Then he handed it over with one hand.
Zhai Jia snatched the pouch, pulled the drawstring, held the opening apart, and slipped two fingers inside to pull out the Chi Hu-patterned Jade Pendant.
The Jade Pendant spun once between his fingers.
Zhai Jia held the Jade Pendant up to his eyes, turning it over and over to examine it.
Finally, he held it a little higher, letting the streetlight shine through the back to carefully observe the Jade’s internal structure.
He then lowered the Jade Pendant and gently scraped its surface with his thumbnail, listening to the sound.
The sound of his nail scraping the jade was crisp, like a nail on glass, but softer.
“Mm, the Jade is warm and smooth, the carving is simple and archaic, and the patina is natural.”
Zhai Jia clicked his tongue in wonder. “Judging from the carving style and form, it should be from the Han Dynasty. The craftsmanship of the Chi Hu is consistent with other Chi Hu Jade Pendants unearthed from that era. Overall, it’s a rare masterpiece.”
Wan Ze looked over in surprise. “Brother Jia, you know about this stuff?”
Zhai Jia chuckled, put the Jade Pendant back in the flannel pouch, pulled the drawstring tight, and gestured with it. “Me? I was just spouting some fancy words to look good.”
Zhai Jia leaned back in the passenger seat, laced his hands behind his head, crossed his legs, and relaxed. “A couple of days ago, I ran into some pretentious douchebag showing off his piece of jade, saying it was some Hetian seed jade from the Ming Dynasty. I listened to him rattling off all those terms—’warm and smooth,’ ‘simple and archaic carving,’ ‘natural patina,’ ‘color penetrating to the bone’—he said them so many times, I just memorized them. Just tried them out now. The Effect was pretty good, right? Hehe.”
