Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Daniel vs Thanos

The spaceship plunged through the atmosphere, its hull glowing red as friction set it ablaze. A trail of fire followed behind as it descended toward the continent of Planet Yaka.

"Huh?" Daniel suddenly uttered.

"What’s wrong?" Quill asked, turning his gaze toward Daniel upon hearing him.

"Heh heh." Daniel smiled. "There’s someone incredibly interesting down there."

Quill looked at Daniel with a look of complete incomprehension. He stared for a solid three seconds before issuing a command to Ultron.

"Ultron, pull up the feed of the situation below."

"Please wait a moment, Mr. Quill."

Ultron quickly projected the situation on Planet Yaka.

The once-bustling streets of the Yaka city were completely deserted, the high-rise buildings reduced to shattered ruins. The city was filled with deafening noise, but it wasn’t the sound of joy and laughter. It was the tragic, weeping wails of absolute misery.

"What’s going on down there?" Quill asked, thoroughly bewildered. Although he and Daniel were bad guys, they were bad guys with a moral code.

The two of them rarely ever targeted civilians, as they had no interest in picking fights with unarmed people.

So, what exactly was happening to Planet Yaka right now? Why were so many civilians crying out in despair?

A faint feeling of sympathy began to rise within Quill’s heart. Watching the beautiful women of Yaka cry, tears streaming down their faces, Quill felt a pang of pity.

"Who did this? It’s absolutely monstrous, too cruel. Daniel, we have to go rescue them." Quill said to Daniel, his face filled with an aura of righteous justice.

"Sure, go right ahead," Daniel said with a beaming smile.

"Ultron, zoom in on this person." Daniel pointed toward a blurry humanoid figure.

Following the command, Ultron magnified the image of the individual.

"Thanos!"

The moment Quill saw the screen his eyes went wide.

"The Mad Titan, Thanos." Quill’s mouth fell wide open.

He had grown up hearing stories about Thanos. Even Yondu and the other Ravagers didn’t dare fight him head-on.

Thanos had wandered the universe alone for countless years before eventually building a faction that included the infamous Black Order. Every member was a legendary powerhouse whose name was feared across the cosmos.

"His faction is practically the hidden fourth empire of the universe." Quill murmured under his breath.

"Mm-hmm," Daniel remarked noncommittally. "Weren’t you just saying you wanted to go rescue the Yaka people? Go on."

"Haha," Quill let out a few dry laughs. "Ow...." He then suddenly clutched his stomach.

"Why does my stomach hurt so badly all of a sudden? I must have eaten something bad. I need to use the bathroom, so I won’t be heading down in a bit." With that, he quickly disappeared into the restroom.

"This guy." Daniel shook his head helplessly. "Cowardly as always."

The spaceship landed with a heavy thud. A sharp hiss of venting pressure followed as the airlock opened, revealing Daniel as he stepped out in gleaming silver suit.

Daniel had put on his Vibranium suit, which he hadn’t used in a long time. Usually, he just wore the combat suit gifted by the Kree, but seeing Thanos wearing heavy armor, he refused to be outdone and put his own on.

"You are...?" Thanos inquired, narrowing his eyes.

"Nice look," Daniel didn’t bother answering Thanos’s question. Instead, he glanced over his armor and gave it a compliment.

"You are strong." Thanos praised him sincerely. "I can sense an extraordinary power within you."

"Mm-hmm," Daniel curled his lips. "How do I compare to you?"

"I do not know," Thanos answered honestly, shaking his head.

"How about we give it a try?" Daniel said with a smile.

"Would you mind letting me finish the task at hand before we fight?" Thanos spoke calmly, almost as if making a simple request.

"Wiping out these Yaka citizens?"

"It is eliminating half of them, to alleviate the burden on the cosmos. The resources within the universe are finite, yet intelligent life multiplies without end, squandering those limited resources. If this continues, a day will inevitably come when the resources run out. I... "

Thanos was still in the middle of explaining his grand vision when Daniel suddenly interrupted him.

"Oh, so it’s basically population control. Got it, got it."

Daniel actually admired Thanos quite a bit. The man had a strong sense of purpose and an unusually rational way of thinking.

On the outside, he was a warlord, but on the inside, he possessed immense intellect and absolute conviction. He wasn’t a fraud like Daniel, whose head didn’t actually contain much depth. Thanos was widely read and highly cultured.

Unfortunately, Thanos executed his slaughters without a shred of personal emotion, viewing everyone with absolute impartiality. He didn’t act out of hatred or cruelty, he simply believed he was making a necessary choice.

That was why there was no chance he would ever spare Earth, so Daniel had no choice but to deal with him.

"Population Control?" Thanos murmured in confusion. He contemplated the phrase for a moment, then spoke.

"A highly fitting term. For you to use such a phrase, you must have a deep, personal understanding of this dilemma."

"Not at all."

Daniel’s response caught Thanos completely off guard, and he stared at Daniel in bewilderment.

Daniel scanned his surroundings, then turned back to Thanos and said, "The ladies of Planet Yaka are quite easy on the eyes. How about we work out a deal and spare them?"

"Impossible. Once I make a decision, I see it through to the end." Thanos said, his voice filled with absolute certainty.

"Is that so? What a coincidence, so do I," Daniel said with a playful grin.

"Then I have no choice but to use force. Once I defeat you, you will no longer be able to stand in my way. But do not worry, I have no intention of killing you. I respect your strength.

After your defeat, you will join my fleet and help me bring my vision to reality."

Thanos had absolute confidence in his own strength. He raised his massive double-bladed sword and pointed it directly at Daniel.

"Let’s see it."

The moment the words left Daniel’s mouth, he lunged toward Thanos, throwing a straight punch. Thanos didn’t bother dodging; instead, he drove his massive blade directly toward Daniel’s neck.

The fist and the blade connected at the same instant. Daniel remained rooted to the spot, entirely unmoved, while Thanos was sent flying backward by the overwhelming force behind the punch. He crashed through several buildings, reducing them to rubble.

In an instant, thick clouds of dust and debris filled the air. Daniel stood casually in place, waiting for the dust to settle without moving an inch.

A few seconds later, Thanos dragged his blade out from the wreckage. The edge of his sword scraped against the ground, drawing bright sparks.

A faint smile appeared on his face. "Impressive power, but unfortunately, it is still not enough to harm me

"Oh, really?" Daniel asked with a smirk.

"I was honestly worried that I might accidentally kill you with one punch, so I only used one percent of my strength. But since you put it that way... I guess I’ll have to crank up the intensity a little."

"Quite arrogant." Thanos roared. He swung his massive blade, creating a storm of afterimages as he charged straight at Daniel.

In less than half a second, he was blasted backward even faster than before.

"How is this possible?" Thanos gasped, pushing himself back up as he cried out in shock.

Just now, he had delivered over a thousand slashes upon Daniel’s body, and Daniel hadn’t bothered to defend himself at all. Then Daniel had simply thrown a single punch, sending him flying.

Staring at the heavily damaged edge of his blade, Thanos found it impossible to believe what he was seeing.

"It’s possible the guy who forged that sword for you didn’t really put his heart into it," Daniel remarked with a shrug. "Maybe he cut corners and used cheap materials."

"You just hit me with more than thousand strikes. So, now it’s my turn to return the favor. Don’t worry, I won’t use my full power. How about one-tenth? If you manage to survive, I’ll let you leave."

The calm and composed expression on Thanos’s face finally cracked. His eyes widened slightly as disbelief replaced his usual confidence.

"Wait..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Daniel’s fist slammed directly into Thanos’s face.

Boom!

Boom!

One punch, two punches, ten punches, a hundred punches...

A massive crater, stretching two miles across, was carved into the ground. Thanos’s body lay sprawled at the edge of it, while his head had been driven deep beneath the earth.

His breathing had become exceptionally faint.

"Still breathing? I guess I’ll spare you, then," Daniel remarked cheerfully after finishing his beating.

Thanos’s durability was nothing short of remarkable. Although it was partly because the loose soil beneath him had absorbed a major portion of the impact, and Daniel had also been holding back, using only one-tenth of his full strength.

Even with those factors working in his favor, surviving a hundred consecutive punches from Daniel without dying was still an incredible feat.

"I’ll be looking forward to our next meeting," Daniel said as he looked down at Thanos’s battered body.

"Bye-bye."
