Marvel: Reincarnated as Superman
Chapter 169: Human World
Thor found a black plastic bag and threw everything Daniel had given him inside, his driver’s license, cash, and a few clothes.
The people from Stark Industries were quite thoughtful. They hadn’t just prepared identity documents like the driver’s license for Thor; they had also provided some everyday clothing.
So right now, Thor was standing on the streets of Long Island in a full suit and sunglasses. Combined with his bushy beard and long hair, he looked a bit out of place.
His highly developed muscles filled out the suit nicely. If you took away the long hair, his current outfit made him look a lot like a bodyguard.
Thor was actually very satisfied with how he looked, even spending a good while admiring himself in the mirror before leaving. But right now, he felt a little lost.
Human society on Earth was something he hadn’t quite adapted to yet. Nobody here knew he was a prince, and everything seemed peaceful on the surface, which made Thor, a man used to constant battle, feel somewhat awkward.
Well, since he was already here, and his hammer was currently stuck at Daniel’s place making a quick trip home impossible, Thor decided it might be a good idea to just relax for a bit, so, he wandered into a bar.
With his appearance, nobody was ever going to check his age, so Thor walked right in without any trouble.
Earth bars were a bit different from the ones in Asgard. Heavy metal music was blasting, hot girls were dancing on stage, and people were grooving on the dance floor. Unlike Asgard, where people mostly sat around in taverns chatting and laughing, Earth was much livelier, even if the atmosphere back home was nice.
Thor found the whole thing quite novel. The view was pretty good, too. After watching the dancers on stage with great interest for a while, he made his way over to the bar and called for the bartender.
“Give me a glass of your strongest drink,” Thor said loudly to the bartender.
“Are you sure, sir?” the bartender asked. “This is our strongest drink. Most people can’t even handle a single sip. It’s our house specialty, but no one’s challenged it in a long time.”
“That’s the one I want,” Thor said, his interest piqued even more as he confirmed his choice.
“Alright,” the bartender agreed.
“This gentleman wants to challenge our strongest drink,” he announced loudly. Instantly, everyone’s eyes nearby turned toward Thor.
“Woah, he looks like a tough guy.”
“Ten bucks says he ends up in the hospital after one sip.”
“Can’t believe someone’s actually brave enough to try it.”
“Never seen him before. Must be new, doesn’t know how crazy it is.”
“Good luck to him.”
People buzzed with hushed conversations, pointing and gesturing at Thor. This made Thor feel a little self-conscious, but also pretty excited.
The bartender placed an empty glass on the counter, an oversized one.
He poured in half a glass of whiskey first, then brought out freshly squeezed chili juice from a blender and poured it in, followed by a bunch of random liquids Thor couldn’t recognize. Finally, he set the drink alight, the glass flickered with a light blue flame.
“Hope you enjoy it,” the bartender gestured to Thor.
The DJ turned down the music. The bar, which had been noisy when Thor first walked in, fell quiet as everyone watched him.
“This is the drink?” Thor asked.
The bartender nodded.
“Looks good,” Thor commented, picking up the glass.
“Drink! Drink! Drink!”
The crowd started chanting. Thor didn’t hesitate any longer and downed it all in one gulp. Finishing nearly a liter of liquor, he let out a long breath, “Refreshing.”
“Woah!”
The crowd gasped in shock, and even the bartender became excited, shouting at the top of his lungs.
“Unbelievable. This gentleman has completed the challenge. He downed an entire glass in one go. He did it. Now, can you tell me your name?” the bartender asked.
He genuinely thought Thor was an absolute warrior. He was the one who mixed the drink, so he knew what kind of concoction it was.
Truth be told, it was just something his boss had thrown together on a whim. The last few people who tried it had ended up in the hospital having their stomachs pumped. Hardly anyone could finish even half a glass.
It was nothing more than a marketing stunt his boss had come up with. Yet Thor had finished the entire glass, and he looked completely fine.
Putting the bartender’s thoughts aside, Thor genuinely felt the drink packed a punch. It was fiery hot, burning his throat a bit, but once it settled into his stomach, it felt warm and incredibly satisfying.
Shatter!
Out of habit, Thor smashed the glass onto the floor.
“I am Thor!” He roared.
“Thor! Thor! Thor!” Led by the bartender, the crowd cheered his name.
Thor was soaking up the spotlight. Even though he was always the center of attention in Asgard too, this felt different.
“Another one!” Thor shouted heartily.
Thor had completely fired up the atmosphere in the bar. People cheered his name, and before long, even some of the women came over to flirt with him.
On his very first day on Earth, Thor was having a blast.
Surrounded by the crowd, Thor got caught up in the excitement. He pulled a stack of cash from the bag and slapped it down on the counter.
“Tonight, drinks are on me. I’m paying for the whole house.”
The bar’s atmosphere turned even wilder.
…..
Late at night, Thor walked out of the bar.
Thor felt like the women on Earth were rather strange. After turning down several women who asked for his phone number, along with a few who tickled his palm and slipped him little cards, he finally left the bar.
With Thor playing the big spender, everyone else had loosened up as well, though they hadn’t gone completely overboard. Even so, the hundred thousand dollars Daniel had given him had been cut in half by the time Thor walked out.
‘Where am I going to sleep tonight?’ Thor was a bit stumped.
Daniel had dumped him in New York without a shred of responsibility, warned him not to use his powers recklessly, and hadn’t really taught him much, leaving Thor at a total loss for what to do.
Walking along the street, Thor eventually ended up in a blind alley.
“Stop!”
Paul and Martin felt like the luckiest men alive. The two had been short on cash lately and were drinking their troubles away at the bar.
Then, out of nowhere, a complete sucker showed up, pulling cash from a bag to buy everyone drinks and casually throwing around tens of thousands of dollars.
With his trained eye, Martin could tell there was still plenty more money in that bag. It was like the gods had dropped a gift right into his lap.
Free drinks, followed by an even bigger payday.
From now on, Martin decided, today would be his lucky day. This was the turning point of his life, the beginning of his rise to the top of New York’s underworld.
He would use this money to recruit men, build his own crew, and establish himself as a major player in New York’s criminal underworld.
The sucker was surprisingly cooperative, too. Instead of taking the main road, he wandered straight into a dead end.
There was hardly anyone around. It was the perfect place to make his move.
Considering the man in front of him had already bought him drinks and was now practically handing him a fortune, Martin decided he’d only take the money and let him walk away unharmed.
Thor was huge, nearly twice Martin’s width, but Martin wasn’t intimidated. He had brought his gun with him, after all. A future kingpin couldn’t afford to go anywhere unarmed.
Martin gave Paul a quick nod and picked up his pace. Once he was close enough, he stepped behind Thor and pressed the barrel of his gun against his back.
“Don’t panic, buddy. I don’t want any trouble. I’m just a little short on cash right now, so I’m going to borrow some of yours to tide me over.”
