Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Surprise Reunion (Bonus)

Hearing someone call his name, Daniel turned around.

Standing in front of him was Susan, smiling brightly.

Today, her hair wasn’t tied up.

Her thick golden blonde hair rested naturally on her shoulders, swaying gently in the breeze.

She wore a fitted white blouse that accentuated her figure, and the afternoon sunlight seemed to make her entire presence glow.

She looked beautiful.

A light wind brushed past, scattering a few strands of her hair. Susan casually lifted a hand and tucked them back behind her ear.

Daniel’s eyes widened in surprise.

"Susan? What are you doing here?"

Their last meeting in New York had left a strong impression on him.

Mostly because Susan was an incredible cook.

Seriously... her cooking was amazing.

Susan raised an eyebrow.

"Why? Am I not allowed to be in Massachusetts?"

"No, that’s not what I meant. I just..."

For once, Daniel found himself at a loss for words.

Susan burst out laughing and stepped forward, wrapping him in a quick hug.

After letting go, she smiled.

"Unexpected, right?"

"A little."

Daniel scratched the back of his head.

"But I’m happy about it. I didn’t expect to run into a friend here."

The moment she heard that, Susan’s smile widened even more.

"Haha, I was lucky enough to get accepted into MIT too!"

"With how hard you study, there was no way they wouldn’t accept you."

Daniel remembered it clearly.

Back in New York, whenever he saw Susan, she was usually carrying a book.

Either reading one or looking for another.

She worked incredibly hard.

Susan was the same age as Carol. The difference was that Carol had chosen to enlist in the military rather than attend college.

Originally, Susan had planned to apply to Columbia University in New York.

But after meeting Daniel and Carol, she’d changed her mind.

During one of her conversations with Carol, she’d learned that Daniel would be attending MIT.

That was ultimately what convinced her to come here as well.

"Can you help me?" Susan lifted the suitcase in her hand. "This thing is heavier than it looks."

"Oh. Right."

Only then did Daniel realize he’d been standing there talking while she was carrying luggage.

He immediately reached over and took the suitcase from her.

"Oh, Hi..."

After chatting with Daniel for some time, Susan noticed T’Challa standing beside him.

The two had met briefly before, so she still remembered him.

"Hi," T’Challa replied politely.

The three walked side by side, with Daniel in the middle.

"Have you completed your enrollment yet?" Daniel asked.

"Not yet. I just got here."

"Then let’s take care of your registration first," Daniel said. "After that we’ll help you get settled into your dorm."

He paused.

"Then tonight, how about we go out and have dinner together?"

Susan immediately nodded.

"Sounds good."

"Oh, right."

Daniel suddenly realized something.

"What department are you in?"

"Physics."

Daniel laughed.

"Then you’re in the same department as T’Challa."

...

The three of them headed over to complete Susan’s registration.

Afterward, they helped her find her dormitory.

Coincidentally, her dorm building was right next to Daniel and T’Challa’s.

Standing downstairs with her suitcase, Susan smiled gratefully.

"Thank you so much. Without your help, this suitcase would’ve been a nightmare."

"It’s nothing."

Daniel waved it off.

"You’re making it sound way too serious. We’re friends."

Then he grinned.

"Besides, Johnny’s one of my best friends."

Out of habit, Daniel raised a fist, intending to lightly punch her shoulder.

He used to do that with Johnny all the time.

Halfway through the motion, he suddenly remembered.

This wasn’t Johnny.

This was Susan.

Without missing a beat, he converted the punch into a casual pat on her shoulder.

"Anyway, remember to come downstairs at five-thirty. We’ll meet here and grab dinner together."

"Okay."

Susan agreed immediately.

Daniel waved.

"See you at five-thirty."

"See you."

The moment she finished speaking, Daniel turned around and left.

Susan stared at his retreating back.

"..."

Then she sighed helplessly.

’Seriously...’

Shaking her head, she turned and headed upstairs.

There were still more than three hours until five-thirty.

She needed to unpack, clean up her room.

And maybe...

Just maybe...

Spend a little time getting herself ready.

Perhaps put on some makeup.

...

Since there wasn’t really anywhere else they wanted to visit, Daniel and T’Challa headed back toward their own dormitory.

Their room was on the fifth floor.

Elevators weren’t exactly standard in dorm buildings yet.

By the time they reached the fifth-floor landing and rounded a corner, someone suddenly came sprinting toward them.

The collision happened instantly.

Unfortunately for that person... he ran straight into Daniel.

Not T’Challa.

Daniel didn’t move an inch.

The other guy bounced backward like he’d slammed into a wall and was sent sprawling onto the floor.

"Sorry!"

Daniel hurried over.

"Are you okay?"

This wasn’t even the first time something like this had happened.

Back in New York, a certain rude and arrogant loudmouth had crashed into him the same way.

That guy had gone flying too.

Daniel wasn’t constantly paying attention to every little thing around him.

Sometimes people just got unlucky.

And somehow, these unlucky people always managed to run into him.

Really.... if they were going to collide with someone, why pick him?

If the guy had hit T’Challa instead, he probably wouldn’t have been launched halfway down the hallway.

It was just bad luck... pure bad luck.

As Daniel reached down to help him up, both of them got a clear look at each other’s faces.

Then they shouted simultaneously.

"You!"

"You!"

Talk about speaking of the devil.

Just moments ago, Daniel had been remembering that collision in New York.

And now they’d run into each other again.

The man lying on the floor was none other than the king of arrogance himself.

Tony Stark.

Who else could it be?

The face was unmistakable.

He looked younger than Daniel remembered.

His skin was smoother, his beard was much lighter, and he still hadn’t fully developed that iconic goatee look.

But Daniel recognized him immediately.

Tony’s face was simply too recognizable.

After meeting him the first time, Daniel was already in a bad mood due to his attitude.

Not because Tony was different from the movies. Actually, the problem was the exact opposite.

The guy was exactly the same.

Still sarcastic.

Still annoying.

Still incapable of keeping his mouth shut.

Watching Tony’s attitude in a movie was entertaining.

Being on the receiving end of it?

Not so much.

Tony smirked.

"I was wondering why I’d been hearing dogs barking all day."

He crossed his arms.

"Turns out one of them ran into an old acquaintance."

Daniel immediately fired back.

"Maybe it smelled a pile of crap nearby."

His hand, which had been reaching down to help Tony up, immediately withdrew.

No chance in hell, this guy could get up himself.

Tony let out a cold laugh.

"Heh. Last time you sent me flying, and I never got an apology."

He pointed accusingly.

"Now we’ve met again. Apologize."

Daniel stared at him.

"For what? You ran into me."

Daniel nearly laughed.

"And does this hallway belong to your dad?"

"You charged into me. You got launched because you’re weak. How is that my fault?"

Tony’s eyes lit up instantly.

He’d found a loophole.

"As a matter of fact..."

He spread his arms proudly.

"The money for this dorm building was donated by my dad."

The smile on his face became unbearably smug.

Daniel immediately felt exhausted.

Mentally.

Emotionally.

Spiritually.

Having money really was annoying.

But he was still weak though.

One bump and he went flying.

Clearly his body was falling apart already.

"Show off monkey."

Daniel tossed out the insult before walking around Tony and continuing towards his room.

Fine.

Your dad owns the building.

You win.

By then, Tony was back on his feet.

He adjusted his clothes and looked disdainfully at Daniel’s departing figure.

"Gorilla."

Tony genuinely believed Daniel was some kind of ape.

Possibly one that hadn’t finished evolving.

Otherwise, why was it that every time they collided, he was the one who got sent flying?

The logic seemed perfectly reasonable to him.

...

After entering the dorm room, T’Challa finally spoke.

"Who was that?"

"An arrogant narcissist."

Daniel flopped onto the couch.

"Obsessed with himself. Loves showing off. And his mouth never stops."

After a pause, he added.

"His family sells weapons. His father is the head of Stark Industries."

Realization immediately dawned on T’Challa’s face.

That explained it.

Stark Industries was famous worldwide.

Even in Wakanda, he’d heard of it countless times.

"Get some rest," Daniel said. "We’ll head downstairs at five-thirty for dinner."

He clearly didn’t want to discuss Tony any further.

With that, he headed straight into his room.

He was tired not physically but mentally...

Once again, he’d been reminded of how poor he was.

And that irritated him very much.

Lying on his bed, Daniel stared at the ceiling.

’So, what if you’re rich?’

The thought echoed angrily in his mind.

’Having money isn’t that impressive!’
