"Save us! Don’t leave us behind!"

"Wait up! Stay for a moment!"

Turning back, just before Victoria could even catch her breath, a set of voices instantly attracted her attention.

In her current state, with her stamina and mana both at rock bottom, she didn’t dare be negligent.

Although the apocalypse had just started, who knew if people had already begun to run wild?

If someone decided to attack her now that she was weak, she would be at a huge disadvantage.

"Hey, who is that? Stay back!"

"If you dare come any closer, then don’t blame me for being ruthless!" she sneered.

However, after facing the direction of the voices, she couldn’t help but pause for a moment.

"A bunch of kids?" she muttered, her eyes looking at them in confusion.

In front of her were four children who looked no older than fifteen or sixteen.

Leading the group was a yellow-haired boy in a red varsity jacket with nose piercings; he looked like a stereotypical delinquent.

By his side were two black-haired girls wearing way too much makeup, making it hard not to wonder if they were trying to hide something on their faces.

And behind them was the last person.

With long curly brown hair and a leather jacket, his head was turned downward so Victoria couldn’t really see who it was.

Yet despite that, she felt he was familiar for some reason.

"The four of you, stop! If you get any closer than this, I won’t be held responsible!"

Boom!

Squeezing out the last drop of her mana, she shot a slash of frost, creating a thin, icy line between them.

Although they were kids, she was taking absolutely no chances.

"Calm down, miss, we don’t mean any harm! My name is Alex Southmore, I’m a student at Higgsfield High School."

"The people beside me are my friends, Anissa and Clara."

"And that gloomy idiot behind us is none other than Terry. Don’t mind him, he’s just an idiot anyway!"

said Alex, dragging Terry’s hair from behind him to make him bow toward Victoria—a scene that made her frown in disgust.

’Wait a minute... Higgsfield High School? Terry?’

’Isn’t that where little Terry went to school after he got adopted a few years ago?’

’This can’t be him... can it?’

As if realizing something, her eyes became particularly gloomy.

Unfortunately, Alex didn’t seem to notice her expression and continued speaking arrogantly.

"Please, we don’t know how you’re this strong or what is going on, but if you promise to take care of us, you won’t regret it."

"The four of us were just having a walk when the sky suddenly turned red, and now all sorts of monsters are walking everywhere."

"My father works with the city police and he has a gun. If you promise to help me get home safely, I can let him and his police buddies protect you!"

Speaking with immense pride, Alex turned his nose toward the sky, feeling the woman in front of him had no reason to refuse.

Although she was strong, he could tell she was at her limit.

If she had the opportunity to work with a group of trained personnel with guns, only a fool would say no.

Listening to Alex talk, the two girls’ eyes shone as they realized how dangerous the world had become.

If they could live with Alex and his family, how good would that be?

Only Terry, like always, kept his head down, not daring to make eye contact with Victoria.

’That voice! It’s definitely Big Sis Victoria!’

’What the hell happened? How could she be so strong?’

’And I... could I be strong like that too?’

Whispering to himself, Terry felt something strange stir inside him.

After waking up to the blood-red sky, he felt a warm, unfamiliar sensation gather in his lower abdomen.

Not only that, but he had seen a translucent game screen pop up after waking up.

Unfortunately, because he was being hit by Alex and the others, combined with the sudden appearance of the Mana Zombies, he hadn’t had a chance to check it out.

Now standing before Victoria, he wondered if that was what made her so powerful.

Thinking of this, his mind began to race.

As for Victoria, looking at Alex and the two girls in front of her, her disgust had reached its peak.

The three of them reminded her of how she had been tormented by Tracy back at school.

For a moment, she even wished she still had some mana left so she could cut off the heads of these idiots like she did those zombies.

Unfortunately, not only was she completely drained, but a part of her still felt she couldn’t bring herself to kill a regular human just yet.

After all, different from Mana Zombies, these were living humans who could talk and breathe.

She was afraid that once she started killing people, she wouldn’t be able to stop.

"Enough!"

"I don’t have time to play with you kids. If you’re done talking, I’m taking my leave."

Turning around to leave, she felt that if she stayed here any longer, she would lose her temper completely.

As for whether that was truly Terry, she decided she would check with the orphanage director back at the Smith Shelter to verify Terry’s adoption records.

"Hey, wait! Did you even listen to what I said?!"

"Do you know who my father is?!"

Seeing Victoria dismiss his offer, Alex blew his top.

Who did this lady think she was? Just because she was a bit stronger, did she not know what it meant for someone to have a gun?

Stretching his hand across the icy line, he reached out to grab her; no matter what, she had to escort him home!

However, before his hand could even touch her, a sudden shift occurred.

Crack!

"Arghhhh!"

"My handdddd!"

Grabbing his wrist, Ethan who had seen enough instantly appeared, snapping Alex’s hand in two with effortless force.

"Hey now, didn’t the lady say you shouldn’t cross the line?"

"Also, what’s with kids these days and bullying? Or is it just a Higgsfield thing?"

"It seems both the university and the high school are quite a mess."

"Isn’t that right, Victoria?"

Appearing with a calm, dangerous smile, Ethan spoke casually as he glanced toward the hidden Terry, a sharp glint shining in his eyes.

’Interesting!’
