Max-Level Comprehension: I Create Magic in the Apocalypse
Chapter 81: Apocalypse Truth!
[Detecting Otherworldly Demon ’Lucian’ has been killed.]
[Detecting presence of Otherworldly Demon ’System’.]
[Requesting permission to extract the System and initiate fusion?]
[Fusion options include: Self-Fusion and System-Fusion.]
Looking at the system prompts, Ethan was stunned. He hadn’t expected his own system to jump out now that Lucian was dead.
However, this was only the beginning. Just before he could find out what the system meant by extraction or fusion, another round of prompts began flooding his screen:
[Detecting Mission: Exterminate the Otherworldly Demon — COMPLETED]
[Rewarding Titles: Earth’s Protector, System Authority +5%, One Blind Box, Apocalypse Codex (Partial)]
[Beginning distribution!]
Yes, his system rewards had arrived!
Seeing everything happen at once, Ethan tried to calm down and analyze everything slowly.
However, fate had other plans for him.
Boom!
Not giving Ethan a chance to react, the once-suppressed violent energy suddenly erupted.
Lucian’s body, which had already turned cold, rapidly began to change.
His severed limbs began to regrow, and new wings sprouted from his back, once again covered in metallic feathers.
His pupils turned pitch black, filling the surrounding atmosphere with an eerie tension.
In just a few seconds, Lucian’s destroyed body was already fully healed!
"Stupid Lucian... I can’t believe this idiot just died like that."
"He should have at least gotten to the tenth order before dying; now I’m stuck in this first-order body."
Talking to itself, the monster’s corpse spoke, completely ignoring Ethan as it scanned its new vessel, obviously dissatisfied.
However, even though he was being ignored, Ethan wasn’t angry.
Rather, he welcomed this sudden turn of events.
’And here I was wondering how to get more information.’
’Perhaps I really do have protagonist luck.’
Talking to himself, Ethan silently gathered his mana as he approached the newly revived Lucian with a cold smile on his face.
"Oh? Let me guess... you must be the legendary System?"
"Although I won’t say it’s a pleasure to meet you, this is quite a sight."
"Judging from this scene, you were always planning on taking over Lucian’s body. No wonder he hated you."
"Instead of a system, you’re more like a parasite."
Examining the creature in front of him, Ethan realized that, just like the phenomenon with Lucy earlier, this was another thing his Max-Level Comprehension couldn’t fully process.
Under Ethan’s Mana Sight, all he could see was a mass of black energy covered in weird, floating symbols, symbols that, whenever he focused on them for too long, caused a sharp stab of pain in his brain.
’Ugh! What is this?!’
Holding his forehead in pain, he couldn’t help but step back, his eyes looking at the System with heightened vigilance.
"Ethan, was it? Seeing as you’re holding your head, I can guess you took a look at something you shouldn’t have."
"Sigh... that’s what you expect from the natives of a small world. You’re lucky you didn’t turn into an idiot."
Waving its skeletal hand carelessly, the System seemed to be in no rush.
Perhaps it had accepted the fact that this was its new body, or perhaps it believed Ethan couldn’t do anything to harm it.
The System showed no intention of running away or attacking immediately.
Rather, its eyes looked at Ethan as if observing a monkey in a zoo.
"I can see you’re a bit confused. Well then..."
"Since that former host of mine was already wary of me from the start, I’ll count it as you doing me a favor by putting him down."
"Because of that, I’ll answer a few of your questions before killing you all. That way, you don’t die in total ignorance."
"Isn’t that nice?"
Calmly talking about slaughtering Ethan and the others, a twisted smile appeared on the creature’s beak.
Yet despite this, Ethan didn’t strike, keeping his eyes firmly locked onto it.
"Oh? No attack? Now that’s no fun, and here I was thinking I was going to stretch for a bit"
"Sigh~ regardless, I’ll solve a bit of your confusion ."
Seeing that Ethan wasn’t going to strike first, the System began to speak.
"Indeed, I am the System that idiot Lucian spoke about."
"And we do come from another world. However, the world I originate from is far higher and stronger than both yours and Lucian’s."
Spreading its wings, the System looked up at the blood-red sky.
"You people of Blue Star don’t know how lucky you are. The world you are in is currently experiencing a global upgrade!"
"Transitioning from a lower world to a medium world. In this process, all kinds of strange opportunities, energy, and world wonders will be formed."
"A hotbed of multiversal treasures is bound to be created, and as such, other worlds sensing this have each sent their own agents to seize these opportunities."
"Yes! This world of yours is about to turn into an interworld battlefield!"
"A place where natives like you can only die pitifully as you watch your homeland be ravaged and destroyed!"
"Hahaha!"
Laughing without a care in the world, the System casually exposed the greatest secret of the apocalypse.
The Black Towers, the otherworldly monsters, the foreign races from his previous life, at this moment, Ethan understood it all.
Why they had suddenly descended; why the world had met its end in his past timeline.
In short, this was a planetary disaster that could not be avoided unless the evolution of Blue Star was stopped.
"However, don’t worry too much. At the current stage, outsiders who are too strong cannot directly descend onto this planet."
"Hence the reason why I came in the form of a system. If my guesses are correct, the others have already made their moves, planting themselves among you humans."
Thinking of this, the System suddenly grew annoyed.
If its plans had gone correctly, it would have used Lucian as a pawn to eliminate all opposition, both native and alien, and right when Lucian was about to succeed as the overlord of the world, it would have taken over his body permanently.
Unfortunately, because of the human standing in front of it, it had been forced to take over prematurely.
Just thinking about this, his anger seemed to rise.
"Alright then, native. Enough talking... get ready to die!"
said the System, gathering dark energy and preparing to strike Ethan down.
However, Ethan, completely satisfied with the information he had extracted, simply spat out two words:
"System... EXTRACT!"
