Max-Level Comprehension: I Create Magic in the Apocalypse
Chapter 84: Rewards and Harvest!
After closing the chat room screen, Ethan went to look at the other rewards.
The Magic Web had so engrossed him that he almost forgot about them.
"Now then, let’s see what we have here."
Talking to himself, he opened the other rewards one at a time:
[Title: Earth’s Protector (upgradable): Damage against otherworldly beings is increased by 10 percent.]
[System Authority +5%: Possessing system authority, your information, situation, and all traits are hidden by the system.
Divination, precognition, or all other kinds of abilities can no longer observe or locate you; more effects unlock with percentage increase.]
[Blind Box (x1): Gives you one item you most need.]
[Apocalypse Codex (Partial): An incomplete codex; perhaps when completed, a special surprise might appear?]
’Wait a minute, aren’t blind boxes supposed to be super rare?’
’This is the second time I’ve gotten one; isn’t that interesting!’
Talking to himself with a hint of surprise, Ethan wondered if perhaps he had heard wrong in his previous life.
After all, blind boxes or random boxes were things that he had heard awakeners say they wished they got.
Now he had gotten them on two separate occasions; how could he not be surprised?
’Also this codex?’
’I wonder what it’ll be like when it’s completed.’
Since he got this piece by defeating a system user or otherworlder, he probably had to get the rest by defeating some more.
Overall, everything along with the new title left Ethan satisfied.
Now, with his rewards collected, Lucian dead, there was nothing more to do.
"Alright everyone, I’m about to cancel the illusion."
"Let’s head back to the base; we’ve been out too long!"
Giving the signal to his grandpa and the others above, Ethan acted.
He finally stopped pouring mana into the shrouding, causing the surrounding space to slowly change.
The red sky that covered Blue Star once again made its appearance, and the arena floor slowly began to disintegrate.
It wasn’t until a few minutes later, that the illusion finally shattered.
However, what he saw next left him and the other veterans who entered the illusion with him stunned.
Not too far away from them was a mountain of corpses several meters high.
Not only that, but the strong stench of iron and blood that soaked the ground, made it obvious just what level of battle had taken place.
"Oh? If it isn’t the Patriarch and the others? You’re finally back."
"This old woman had gotten a bit tired of waiting."
Floating down from the sky with her sniper rifle wrapped around her neck, Lauren was the first to notice Ethan and the others’ appearance.
In fact, she had actually just been taking a glance at that spot on the ground, doing a double-check to make sure no monsters escaped.
However, in shocked eyes, Ethan and the others suddenly popped out of nowhere. Because of that she had to fly down to investigate.
"Patriarch, how did all of you suddenly appear, was it some sort of teleportation?!"
"Is that also a spell that you can teach us? If so this old lady is willing to learn," asked Lauren, her eyes twinkling with excitement.
And the others hearing this, also perked up their ears; after all in most stories, space is king and time is supreme.
To learn something like teleportation, who wouldn’t be excited?
Unfortunately, despite their excitement, Ethan had no choice but to burst their bubble.
"Sigh~ unfortunately for you all, it’s not teleportation; rather it’s an illusion."
"Before trapping the Monster King in an illusion to deal with him, I also masked the surroundings where we all were in an illusion."
"That way we didn’t get hit or affected by you guys or the monsters, as during the illusion most of us remained motionless, only thinking that we were moving."
"Looking back at it now, the only people that were moving most of the time were those doing battle; however even that was controlled to the limit."
Taking a pause, Ethan began to explain what happened.
Thanks to his illusory spell advancing, he could do more things he regularly could not do.
Such as creating such a large illusory arena, and even controlling the levels of illusion.
Because of that, he could make movements and the area an illusion while letting attacks remain real so the opponents sustained damage.
That way, it would be hard to tell what was real and what was not, reducing the chance of the illusion being broken through.
"Unfortunately, the only issue with that is like I noticed, strong enough real attacks can break the illusory space."
"Although I was lucky this time, the spell still needs some work; however I can still teach you all later."
Hearing this, everyone nodded although somewhat disappointed.
Only Kenjiro, despite hearing it was not teleportation, was still excited.
"Haha well then this old man cannot wait to learn it from you."
"Perhaps with this spell of yours, sword techniques that only existed in myth can be created in my hand."
"The so-called Mount Hua illusory sword where petals bloom with every sword swipe."
"Or the illusory sword art where one condenses their sword intent into another sword masking one sword strike twice or even three times."
"Indeed with this spell of yours, this old man can go one step further."
Thinking of this, Kenjiro unknowingly created a mana blade out of excitement as he couldn’t wait to practice his swordsmanship.
However, before he could do anything, a familiar sniper rifle landed on his head.
’Bonk!’
"Hey old man, do you really think it’s time for that?"
"Look around you; there are over a hundred corpses, it turns out the intelligence wasn’t fully correct."
"We need to deal with these monsters and head back to the base."
"Or at least arrange for some people to come pick it up, not practice your sword."
Growling at her teammate, Lauren wondered why these old men were always so battle-hungry, completely forgetting that she was the same whenever she loaded her sniper.
Luckily, Ethan was there to support her.
"Yes, Lauren is right; while we can’t drag all the corpses back to the base right now,"
"We have something more important to do."
"In the corpses of these monsters most times in the chest or the forehead, there should be a crystal there."
"We need to dig it up and take it all back to use in the shelter; as for the corpses we’ll arrange someone to pick them up."
"Due to their nature as monsters, their teeth and other parts can be made into clothes and weapons especially since bullets are limited."
Speaking of this, Ethan looked at the blood moon and sighed.
Even though everything he said was correct, there was one thing he didn’t let anyone know yet:
’Was it in six months from now? Another mana tide would happen altering the laws of the world.’
’As a result, most technology stopped working; in that case, we have to prepare from now.’
Looking at the dead monsters in front of him, he almost wanted to thank Lucian for this parting gift of his.
At least with these, his shelter would be further ahead of others.
